Harmful small algae are familiar to most hobbyists. Experts know how not to simply overcome this problem. The vegetation greening all around it appears as if from nowhere and in a short time completely fills the aquarium. The result of uncontrolled reproduction is the release of toxic substances into the water, a decrease in the amount of oxygen, and a change in water indicators that are usual for aquarium inhabitants. To correct the situation will help a special tool for the aquarium - "Sidex".

What it is?

The use of this drug is an extreme measure when propagating disease-causing algae in the aquarium. The simplest plants interfere with the comfortable existence of higher aquarium cultures, they block access to vital light. With an increase in lower plants, toxic substances are released into an artificial reservoir, the concentration of oxygen decreases, and the chemical indicators of water change.

To solve the problem, aquarists use scrapers, various means and even living filters like aquarium catfish, but if algae continues to multiply and aquatic inhabitants are no longer visible through the green plaque on the walls of the aquarium, then Sidex will help to cope with the task.

This chemical was created by an American company specifically to combat algae in domestic waters, as well as to prevent this problem. It is a two-component disinfectant sold in liquid form. The product has a specific persistent aroma and a yellowish color.

The main active ingredient is glutaric aldehyde. The main purpose of the drug is destruction of filamentous, "black beard" and other harmful algae... For sale "Sidex" is put up in cans, and a special powder for disinfection is included in the kit.

Important! Before use, it is important to carefully read the instructions. So, an expired product cannot be used. Not only will it lose the fight against algae, in addition, it can cause significant harm to aquarium inhabitants and even humans. Shelf life is 2 years.

How does Sidex affect water?

Upon entering the aquarium, the components of the preparation are divided into water and carbon dioxide. A large amount of carbon dioxide enters the liquid, and a lot of alkali is produced. At this time, the aquarist may notice that the water has become significantly cloudy - this is due to the death of lower algae.

Water indicators change, the composition increases the content of nitrates, nitrites, nitrogen, phosphates. Iron also becomes less - this is facilitated by the high consumption of glandular compounds by plants.

Under the influence of all these processes, algae spores, pathogenic bacteria and viruses are destroyed.

Recommendations for use

The manufacturer does not recommend using the activator included in the kit to eliminate algae. If the drug is used as a preventive measure, then the recommended dosage is 5-7 ml per 100 liters of water. In this case, the agent is used daily for 1.5–2 weeks. If the reservoir is already contaminated with algae, then it is customary to use about 12 drops of the agent for every 100 liters. The substance is poured once a day for a week.

The maximum allowable dosage per day is 25 ml per 100 liters.

Even if the algae have grown abundantly and filled a larger volume of the artificial reservoir, do not exceed this rate. Exceeding the dosage will not increase the efficiency of the work, but it can negatively affect the composition of the water, and this will provoke health problems for the aquarium inhabitants. It is believed that fish during the work of "Sidex" can not be removed, but many experienced aquarists still move pets for the period of treatment of the aquarium.

When using the product, do not neglect personal protective measures. Be sure to wear gloves and respirator. If the drug drops on the skin or gets into the eyes, wash it off immediately with water. In the event of complications or an allergic reaction, seek medical advice. After each use of the product, seal the container and ventilate the room.

Important! If Sidex is used to eliminate the “black beard” on the leaves of aquarium plants, then the treatment is carried out for two weeks every day. During this time, the components completely destroy plaque on the surface of the leaves.

You should familiarize yourself with the algorithm for using the drug.

  1. Try to apply the product in the morning. As already mentioned, when it decomposes, carbon dioxide is released, which plants need for photosynthesis. On the other hand, at night, the aquarium flora needs oxygen. Therefore, the addition of the drug in the evening is undesirable for higher plants.
  2. Before pouring the medicinal substance, prepare the aquarium for the procedure. Thoroughly clean the filter, remove algae from diseased plants, replace ½ the volume of water with fresh water and check the circulation systems. The equipment must not create strong water movement. Turn off the backlight and shade the tank as much as possible, you can even cover all transparent walls with a blanket, turn off the aerator. All these measures will help Sidex do the best possible work without harming the fish.
  3. If the aquarist accidentally exceeded the recommended dosage of the drug, then aeration of the artificial reservoir is required.
  4. One day after the first portion of the substance, half of the water volume changes again, while the dosage remains the same.
  5. Algae that died in the first days must be removed so that their rotting remains do not start releasing toxic waste into the water.
  6. On the third day of the treatment, you can change 20-30% of the aquarium water. Be sure to clean the soil with a siphon, turn on the lighting - shading is necessary only in the first three days. These measures will rid the aquarium of lower algae, while the rest of the plants will survive this time without any problems. Only tall plants can suffer from shading.
  7. After the treatment week, the result must be consolidated. So, until the final destruction of algae, add another 20 ml of the drug per 100 l of water every day. When organisms are eliminated, reduce dosage to 15 ml per liter of water.
  8. At the final stage of treatment, experts advise adding trace elements to the water that contribute to the good condition of plants subjected to chemical treatment. The components of "Sidex" destroy nitrogen compounds and phosphates, which are necessary for the functioning of the biological cycle of the ecosystem. Therefore, it is also important to improve the health of the vegetation with additional means.
  9. To be more effective, some aquarists add shrimp to the tank during treatment. For example, Red Cherry and Cardin love to feast on harmful algae, and their joint work with Sidex brings an even more successful result.

    The tool is used not only for the destruction of lower algae. For example, it can be used when planting underwater and floating plants by soaking purchased specimens in a solution in a separate container. Some experts use the substance to treat aquarium inhabitants. The components of the product contribute to the elimination of bacteria and other pathogens that can become a source of dangerous diseases to which fish, molluscs, and crustaceans are prone. In this case, the drug is introduced into the aquarium in small doses - 15–20 ml per 100 l of water.

    Possible problems

    Occasionally, aquarists have noticed the harm that the drug can cause to living organisms. So, during treatment, the death of the tubule, which is food for fish, is possible. Inhabitants who tasted the dead pipe maker also died. And also the substance negatively affects some types of aquarium plants, therefore experts advise to prevent the appearance of harmful algae - it is safer and easier than then to join the war against pathogenic vegetation.

    To prevent the appearance of the problem, the drug "Sidex" can again be used as a prophylaxis.

    For this, a solution of 1-3 ml of the product per 1 liter of water is prepared in a separate container. In the resulting compound, it is necessary to rinse all the plants newly brought for planting to the home aquarium for a few minutes. And also to avoid the use of "Sidex" will allow the following preventive measures:

    • compliance with the quarantine of new plant specimens;
    • planting crops regularly to avoid contamination;
    • frequent water changes;
    • regular filter cleaning.

    In the next video you can see the results of using Sidex in an aquarium for seven days.
