Aquariums have always brought brightness and dynamism to ordinary interiors of rooms and offices. But this was especially influenced by neither the green plants inside, nor the various houses and figurines, and the abode of this very aquatic world - striped aquarium fish.

With their constant movement and color difference, they have completely won the hearts of both experienced aquarists and people far from this science.

Who are the minke whales?

Striped fish are those that have several colors in their color, necessary in order to hide from predators in the world of the wild. Currently, their true purpose has disappeared - now they are proudly decorating aquariums.

But for an artificial reservoir, only small fish matter. This is where the variations are virtually endless. These include all the familiar goldfish with yellowish-orange colors, ancistrus catfish with brown shades and long mustaches, swordtails, guppies, and many others.

As mentioned above, minke whales have a wide variety of shapes and types. They are distinguished by the conditions of detention, the type of feeding, the degree of activity, the ability to be in groups, by an external factor. Many are attracted by huge single fish with long tails and whiskers to the very bottom, others adhere to the rule "the more the better."

It is important to identify your purpose for keeping an aquarium and only then start choosing the right type.

Below is a list of the most popular classes of minke whales and a brief information about them.

  • gold fish - the most popular of all pets.It has a golden color and a luxurious veil-type tail. Definitely, she has come a long way of development, turning from a goldfish into a beautiful creature, now called by many "the sea mistress".
  • Ancistrus - well-known catfish. There are several subspecies that differ from each other only in color and size. The smallest representative - red - is suitable for crowded content in the aquarium. In general, ancistrus is a very useful fish.

Suction cups play a huge role, with the help of which the catfish can climb onto the walls of the aquarium, clean it completely, making it easier for the owner of an artificial reservoir.

  • Swordsman - the name of this inhabitant of aquariums happened for a reason. Their characteristic feature is the presence at the end of the tail of a fin similar to a sword. They are rather shy, so they should be kept in a flock of 3 or more individuals.
  • Barbus - here is the perfect option for those who like to watch constant traffic. It differs from all the others in that it has three or four even black stripes on its body, bright red markings on the head and fins, and a golden color on the sides. Small but gregarious individual.
  • Guppy - who does not know these mobile fry, constantly circling in a flock, regularly nibbling each other? Their differences are incredible. In aquariums, you can see small guppies with short fins and tails. But do not forget about the mobile body, which emits all the colors of the rainbow during active movement. But how magnificent are such representatives with wide tails, dropping to the very bottom, swimming with such grace and majesty that you will envy.
  • Danio - small representatives of the size of guppies. Most of them have a red or pink tint and float near the surface of the water. It should be remembered that such fish are usually kept in schools, but their small size, as well as their characteristic natural feature to stay at the water's edge, make it possible to settle with some other large fish. And yet the special appeal of zebrafish is due to the fact that they are themselves luminous creatures.

One has only to see how their scales shimmer in a dark room!

  • Scalaria - a peaceful wedge-shaped fish. It has a small size and triangular fins with "ribbons" falling down. She is not very active, moves slowly, creating a "flying" image. It is because of him that foreign aquarists call it Angel fish.
  • Zebra fish, or lion fish. Undoubtedly, this pet is one of the largest inhabitants of the aquarium: it weighs up to 1 kg. Studying it, you can see an incredible sight: large, with fins going in different directions. She combines frightening grandeur with striped beauty - with a color that resembles the stripes of a zebra. But such beauty also has its drawbacks: zebra fish are poisonous, so touching it with your hands is strictly prohibited.
  • Leporinus striped - this is the well-known yellow fish with black stripes. Its color is quite simple and uncomplicated - the so-called bee color. Has up to 10 black stripes on its body. A small (up to 20 cm) individual will look good among its fellows.
  • Cichlazoma - refers to the species black-striped fish. It is a small fish with black stripes located all over its body. The blue shades of this small underwater inhabitant are especially striking - she seems to be lost in the water.

In fact, there are many more of them, so the choice can be quite large. Well, in order to finally decide, you should take into account such criteria as the size of the aquarium, water quality, type of feeding, and so on.

The size, interior of the aquarium and the content of the fish

Most minke whales are large in their own right. An aquarium with a volume of 10 liters will become unsuitable for their normal existence, therefore vessels for keeping scaly pets from 60 liters should be considered.

If there is a question about which form of aquarium is worth buying, then this completely depends on the preference of the owner. Some people find it more convenient to have diagonal ones, others - vertical ones.

For yellow with black stripes and zebra fish, voluminous vessels larger than 80 liters should be purchased, since the individuals themselves are not small in size. If a zebra fish can live alone, then leporinus are contained in the article, and here it is important to choose the right group, because they are very pugnacious, which cannot be said about guppies. These fish can live in an aquarium with a volume of less than 60 liters. They have a rather peaceful character and small size, which makes them unpretentious in caring for them.

Guppies are great for beginners. But keeping them in the neighborhood should be with those fish that are peaceful and are not predators.

Cichlaz are kept separately, as they are very aggressive. In addition, it is advisable to settle them in pairs (male and female) in an individual aquarium or with representatives that exceed them in size by three or four times. But even here you should not relax, since this couple can immediately attack the rest of the inhabitants of the aquarium if they approach their habitat or offspring.

The classic option is to keep one or more goldfish in your aquarium. They are unpretentious in care and feeding, which is a good plus for the breeder.

If you want to keep more than one species of fish in one aquarium, then the neighborhood of small peaceful fry of various forms is perfect: guppies of all kinds, wedge-shaped scalars, shiny zebrafish. The main thing here is not to relocate the aquarium and to know that there are about 4 liters of water per fish.

Particular attention should be paid to the factor who the pets are: predators or herbivores.

Most of the minke whales are omnivores. The only herbivores are guppies and goldfish. Others may well be the reason for the sudden emptying of the aquarium. Therefore, you should read all the necessary information about the purchased type of fish and stock up on the required care items and food. But now this problem is practically irrelevant. At pet stores you can buy any food for any type of waterfowl and do not worry about "composing a diet" for your scaly pets.

Particular attention should be paid to zebra fish... She is extremely exotic, but at the same time quite dangerous. One touch of the thorns of this individual can lead to a sad outcome, and, unfortunately, such cases are still not uncommon.

Striped aquarium fish are ideal for those who want to diversify their study or room, while adding a lot of colors.... A huge plus of these individuals is that the variation in the colors of their species only grows and changes an infinite number of times, which once again gives rise to creativity.
