Curls are considered feminine and always relevant, hairstyle appropriate in any situation. It can be soft waves, elastic curls and even afro-curls that are so fashionable this season. The easiest way to change your image and become the owner of curly hair is to use curlers. Let's take a look at what they are, as well as how to choose and wind them up correctly?

Peculiarities

Curlers are a relatively simple and safe way to get curls. Moreover, having only a few sets of such rollers, you can regularly change the styling. Curlers are a salvation for the owners of thin thin hair - with their help you can get root volume and airiness, splendor of styling.

It is worth noting and availability, ease of use of rollers... Of course, there are small changes in the structure of the hair with regular use of curlers. But when compared with the effect of the flat or irons, the effect is minimal.

However, it is undesirable for owners of weakened, intensely falling hair to use curlers. This will exacerbate an already existing problem.

Species overview

Depending on the material of the curlers themselves, as well as the type of curls that their wrapping gives, the following types of tools are distinguished.

Velvet

These are cylindrical rollers made of plastic, covered with a layer of velor. Thereby hair does not get tangled and does not cling to curlers, easy to remove. To fix the rollers, a clip or a special stick is usually used. Velvet curlers of various diameters are produced, therefore, with their help, it is possible to create a variety of curls.

Boomerangs

Represent "Sticks" based on flexible wire. From above, they are covered with rubberized material, less often with foam rubber (not the best option, since the curlers quickly deteriorate). The strands are wound on boomerangs, after which the product itself is bent and left in this form until the hair dries.

You can additionally fix the curlers with Velcro or rubber bands.

Bobbins

The bobbins known to many Soviet beauties are wooden spiral curlers. Similar products are also used for a chemical wave. Bobbins allow you to achieve small elastic curls.

Velcro

These are soft, lightweight curlers made of synthetic materials, a feature of which is the presence of a sticky layer on the surface. Because of this, the product is sometimes called "hedgehogs". Thanks to the sticky surface, the curlers are attached to the hair and do not slip, no additional fixation is needed. "Hedgehogs" can be of different diameters. Velcro is especially convenient for creating root volume, obtaining soft natural curls.

Locks

These are soft foam-based curlers. Due to the different diameters of the products, they can be used to create both large and small curls. The curlers hold well, do not damage the hair structure, and due to the peculiarities of the material, you can even sleep in them.

Spirals

Soft curlers made of polymer, reminiscent of fabric. Such products look like a spiral, but are easily unwound. They need to be unwound, put inside a strand, after which the material will take its original position. Also, the spirals are equipped with a special hook to pull the strand inward and fix it.

Thermo

These products involve heating and subsequent (while the products are not cold) winding strands on them. By the time the curlers cool down, curls are obtained, however, this method cannot be called completely safe for hair, since there is thermal action that destroys the hair structure. Initially, heat rollers were a rag material that was heated in hot water (boiled in a saucepan).

Today, rollers are made from modern polymers. They are heated in the oven or in a special container connected to the mains. Modern heated hair rollers warm up in 5-7 minutes, and cool down in a quarter of an hour. They are suitable for those ladies who do not have a lot of styling time. However, to use the device, an outlet is required (if we are talking about heated rollers in the box), and their frequent use, as already mentioned, is fraught with dry hair and their fragility.

Depending on the type of material, curlers are metal and wooden (the least comfortable to use) and based on polymer, synthetic materials (plastic, foam rubber). Metal products, of course, help to create bouncy, luxurious curls, but it is important to use them correctly. When fixing the cylinders, you can get creases on the surface of the hair, it is inconvenient to sleep on such curlers, they are not suitable for weakened hair and for drying curled strands with a hairdryer.

Depending on the diameter, large diameter curlers can be distinguished (some models are so large that they are suitable exclusively for creating root volume), medium and small. The size of the curl and the structure of the curls depend on the diameter.

Which ones to choose?

When choosing this tool, you should focus on the type and length of the hair, as well as the desired result. So, Velcro is not recommended for medium-length hair and below. Small hooks on the surface of the instrument cause tangles in the hair. In order to remove the roller, you have to tear your hair. But for shorter haircuts, for example, to the shoulder blades and shorter, "hedgehogs" will be the best option. Boomerangs, bobbins and hot rollers can also be wrapped at this length.

The larger the diameter of the curlers, the more voluminous the curls will turn out... If such tools are used on short hair, then you will not even get curls, but rather soft waves. For a small curl, you need to use a curler with a smaller diameter. For vertical curls and afro-curls effect - bobbins. For long hair, velvet curlers, ribbon spirals, boomerangs are more suitable, for infrequent use - thermal curlers.

How to curl your hair depending on the length?

You should not wind up wet strands - they will dry for a long time, and if they are not dried, they will develop quickly. In addition, when winding too wet hair, their structure is disturbed. Hair should be dry or slightly damp. Only clean hair should be curled. For better fixation, you should apply styling products to them - mousse or foam. Treat each strand with one of these products and use a curler. Already finished curls can be sprinkled with varnish.

No need to pull the strands too tightthis weakens the hair and can lead to hair loss. In addition, the scalp is uncomfortable. The thinner the strand that is wound on the roller, the finer the curl will turn out.

You need to carefully comb your hair before using curlers and divide the entire mass into the same strand thickness. The more uniform they are, the more neat and attractive the curls will be.

You always need to keep the curlers until the strand dries completely.... But if after that you continue to walk in curlers, the curls will turn out to be even tighter, more elastic. You can dry your hair in curlers naturally or using a hair dryer. However, the latter is not recommended when using metal rollers. As they heat up, they will overheat the hair, which is harmful to them. If heat rollers are used, then a thermal protective agent is first applied to the strands.

Long

Regardless of the length of the hair, the hair must be rinsed and dried before using the curler. It is better to dry the long ones completely, and then, if necessary, moisten the strands from the spray bottle. Having stepped back a little from the roots, it is worth distributing the styling agent for styling along the strands. It can be used for the entire mass of hair at once or separately for each strand before winding the curlers. You can get beautiful Hollywood curls at home if I use medium-diameter velvet curlers that roll in the direction from the face.

Long hair is divided into 3 parts - the occipital and 2 lateral. Then divide each of the zones into 2-3 more parts, but already vertically. The upper strands must be lifted and fixed so that they do not interfere. From the back of the head, the hair is twisted on curlers. You can do this to the roots, but you can only do it up to the middle of the hair length.

Short

Wash and dry short hair before styling and apply mousse or spray to all hair at once. After that, you need to comb it well again. You can make large waves using Velcro curlers or velvet products of medium diameter. Separate a strand in the forehead area (its width should be slightly less than the width of the cylinder), if necessary, moisten the tip of the strand with water from a spray bottle. Attach the curlers to the end of the strand and, while pulling it, twist the cylinder inward, towards the forehead. If necessary, fix the tool.

Roll the occipital and parietal regions in the same way. Usually they move from the forehead downward. Dampen hair as needed. The side zones dry the fastest, so they work with them last, after sprinkling with water. Hair to the crown zone in the upper part of the head is twisted towards the forehead, after the crown - towards the back of the head. The side strands are wrapped towards the ears, neck. After drying, the curlers are removed, the hair is taken apart by hand and sprayed with varnish.

Average

Curling begins with the same procedures - washing and drying your hair. Then you need to comb the hair well and divide the entire mass of hair into 3 parts - 2 lateral and occipital. First, the occipital zone is curled, and the side ones, for convenience, can be fixed with elastic bands or clips for now.Separate the lower strand in the back of the head, comb it again, apply mousse and, putting the tip in the middle of the curler, start winding the cylinder inside the hair, while slightly lifting the strand.

Having wrapped all the hair, it is worth fixing the curlers. In a similar way, you need to wind up the entire occipital zone, from the back of the head to the very crown. Then one of the side zones is released, the lower strand is highlighted, the described actions are repeated. The second side zone is screwed in the same way. The hair should be allowed to dry completely. Then unwind the curlers from the bottom rows.
