Men's fashion has always been lavish, and trendy chinos, like many other edgy trends, have migrated to women's wardrobe from there. It is difficult to find a more versatile item for the summer, as well as for the warm autumn-spring period.

One has only to learn how to correctly select and wear such trousers, and they will become an irreplaceable detail in any stylish outfit. And our article is designed to acquaint you with all the intricacies of the selection of chinos and their combination with other elements of the wardrobe.

What are chinos?

Authentic chinos are trousers made from pure cotton. On the fly, instead of a zipper, they have buttons, the legs are slightly narrowed downward. Front pockets are chamfered, back pockets are cut-in, straight.

This description fits the classic chinos, but today there are a lot of variations that allow the use of mixed fabrics or the usual zipper on the fly. Landing can be both classic and low.

Such pants appeared in the middle of the 19th century. They were developed specifically for the British military based in the Indian colonies. At first, all clothing for soldiers was produced in white.

But this option turned out to be too easily soiled and impractical, so before sewing, white cotton was dyed with any convenient improvised means - curry, mulberry, coffee. The result was this inimitable and characteristic shade of khaki for chinos, which later became traditional for such trousers.

The pants owe their name to China - the British bought the fabric for them there, and so it happened - pants made of chino ("Chinese") fabric. For many decades, such trousers passed from one country to another as army uniforms for hot countries.

Then they gradually migrated into the everyday men's wardrobe, and by the 20th century, by the time of widespread emancipation, chinos finally got into women's fashion images.

Cut features

Chinos are loose-fitting trousers made from a soft yet durable material - linen or cotton. As a result, their convenience and versatility have led to the fact that chinos literally replace jeans from everyday life, especially in summer.

Such trousers sit freely, do not hinder movement at all, and most importantly, they are not hot in them. At the same time, they, as well as the jeans mentioned above, go well with almost any clothing and footwear. This means that such pants can be worn both to work and to a party, both on a trip and on a date.

Since chinos are a separate type of trousers, and not a specific model, different manufacturing brands may allow discrepancies in cut, style and some details.

Having become an attribute of the women's wardrobe, chinos began to appear not only with a classic or slightly low fit, but also with a high waistline. The upper area of the trousers with pintucks is another characteristic feature of chinos.

Who are they going to?

Although these are very versatile loose-fitting trousers, they need to be tailored to fit your individual figure. So you will be able to hide any flaws, and thanks to some tricks - even visually change your silhouette for the better.

  1. Boys and girls of short stature should choose models with a high waistline. Such trousers visually make the legs longer.
  2. If your height is medium or even tall, feel free to give preference to models that are very narrowed downwards. It looks very elegant, but visually steals a few centimeters in height. It will not harm you, but for the owners of more modest growth, such models, unfortunately, are prohibited.
  3. A little trick for the overweight: a straight cut without folds and excess volume in the hips and waist area is the perfect way to hide the problematic moments of your figure. At the same time, trousers should be made of lighter fabrics that give fewer folds and do not gather. Time-tested trick to help you look slimmer!

Varieties of trousers

Men ́s chinos tend to follow the classic style of this type of pants. They are only slightly narrowed downwards, have a classic or slightly understated fit, and in terms of variety, they can differ only in a wide range of colors.

Women's chinos, on the other hand, are distinguished by a wide variety of varieties. In addition to the cut, identical to men's models, they are produced with sharply tapering legs, with a high waist, with tucks in the upper part and with all kinds of folds.

Teenage chinos are basically just miniatures of adult models. For any gender and age category, a huge selection of models is available, different both in style and in color. And everyone can easily pick up something of their own.

How to determine the optimal length?

Fashionable cuffs are almost a must for chinos. But they need to be done correctly. For tall ones, there is an unspoken law: the turn-up should be located at a distance of 5 cm from the ankle. But since this technique visually shortens the legs, owners of a more modest stature can reduce this distance to 2-3 cm.

The gate width is also important. It is calculated very simply: the smaller your height, the narrower the permissible width of the fold. This is a prerequisite, breaking which, you heavily weight the entire silhouette of the outfit.

Popular colors

The classic range of chinos is khaki or beige shades. And these colors will always be in fashion. However, in the current season, it is worth paying attention to other color schemes. If the classics are more relevant for the official sphere, then you should choose a bright range for recreation.

For those who, even in everyday style, adhere to conservative views, chinos in deep blue or dark gray tones will be relevant.

For romantic natures, pastel colors that are now fashionable are suitable - pistachio, lavender, lemon.

Nobody canceled bright colors either! The red range is cranberry or the color "fiesta", the green palette is the color of a fresh lawn or an emerald.

Cornflower blue, amber, coral, beige colors are also relevant this season. Chocolate or iced coffee is a great option for connoisseurs of hot trends.

Chinos with bold prints take place in women's and teenage fashion. Plant, animal or abstract drawings will be relevant for a long time.

What to wear with?

Chinos are a universal thing. They go well with almost any wardrobe item. But it is important to keep the whole ensemble in one harmonious style.

For an office look, pair these pants with a shirt, jacket, or knitted sweater.

Observe minimalism when it comes to color solutions. Everything should be sustained in 2-3 colors, a monochrome composition is also acceptable, where only different shades of the same color are used.

More daring combinations of both styles and colors are appropriate in an informal setting. For a hot summer day, the top of such an ensemble can be either a T-shirt or a shirt or blouse.

On a cool evening, a sweatshirt with a fun print or a jacket (denim or knitted), a cardigan, etc. is appropriate.

Suitable footwear

For both men and women, the ideal companions for chinos are topsiders (shoes for sailors and yachtsmen), oxfords, sneakers, sandals. The latter should be on high soles.

For a cool time, desert boots will be the perfect shoes for chinos. Perfect combinations with some models of sneakers, with moccasins are possible.

However, women's shoes are much more varied than men's. And the fair sex can also safely combine these or those models of chinos with shoes and heeled sandals. It can be either graceful stiletto heels or massive open shoes with stable heels. Combinations with creepers and loafers are also appropriate.

At the same time, remember once and for all: no matter what shoes you choose to combine with chinos, socks in this ensemble are unacceptable!

Optional accessories

Both shoes and a belt for chinos are chosen according to one simple principle: if you want to create a more austere image, it means that the shoes and belt should be brown, while the trousers themselves should be of the classic range (khaki or beige).

To create an informal look, any color accessories that support the main gamut of the outfit are good. Avoid black in any combination - it doesn't belong next to chinos.

Shoes and a handbag selected according to the classical principle will look very impressive - sustained in the same range. No less impressive is the combination of a belt and shoes according to a similar principle.

For cool weather, it is important to use scarves and neck scarves in ensembles with chinos, which are wound with the creation of an airy volume.
