It's no secret that in typical high-rise buildings, bathrooms are a rather small space, so apartment owners decide to install hydroboxes in their bathrooms - showers. When planning such a purchase, you should find out the standard dimensions of the structure and decide in advance which configuration and height of the pallet is better to give preference to.

We will tell you about all these points in our article - we hope our information will allow you to make the right choice and help you equip an ergonomic and comfortable bathroom.

Why are sizes important?

When choosing sanitary equipment for a shower room, you need to compare its dimensions with the footage of the washing room, and also calculate the total number of household appliances with the necessary furniture and measure the parameters of their location. Only with an integrated approach can you correctly and competently equip your bathroom, to make being in it comfortable and at the same time to fit all the items necessary for carrying out hygienic procedures.

For small bathrooms, a shower cabin is considered a good solution. With the correct calculation of its dimensions and shape, the use of such a structure will save the usable area of the room.

Even before purchasing a shower cabin, you should calculate the footage of the bathroom, since the difficulties of placing the structure in the bathroom entail the need to replace it, as a result, you will have to spend additional funds on transportation and loading work.

It happens that the bowl of the pallet does not fit into the area prepared for it, and the sashes, even if you remove the visor from them, do not fit in the room in height. In some hydroboxes, the pallet height does not exceed 40 cm, therefore, with standard cab walls - 175 cm, the height of the structure corresponds to 115 cm. Considering the need to leave at least 15-25 cm to the ceiling, it turns out that the length of the walls in the room should start from 235 cm or more, otherwise the structure will simply not fit in it.

By no means every bathroom has such dimensions - the owners of such bathrooms are better off turning their attention to the ergonomic compact models of hydroboxes.

As for the width of the shower enclosures, in the standard version it is approximately 80-95 cm - a structure of this size can easily fit in almost every bathroom, while models with a bathtub bowl and shower can only be afforded by owners of a spacious washroom.

Standard values

Nowadays, trade enterprises offer a large assortment of hydroboxes of a wide variety of shapes and sizes with minimum, maximum and typical parameters. Each person can choose a model of the appropriate size so that it fits ergonomically into any space.

The overwhelming majority of manufacturers are focused on the production of standardized shower enclosures, both in shape and size. When dividing all models of hydroboxes on sale by size, the following types can be distinguished:

  • small - the width of the walls in these installations is no more than 90 cm;
  • average - the length of these products varies from 90 to 120 cm;
  • large - the width of the walls of such boxes corresponds to 130-170 cm.

However, there are hydroboxes with even more impressive parameters, but their production is limited.

The height of the cabins also has its own distinctive characteristics, according to this parameter, hydroboxes are divided into 2 types:

  • low - in this case, the length of the box walls together with the pallet is approximately 180-200 cm;
  • high - the height of the booth reaches 240 and more centimeters.

Booths measuring 190-200 cm are in the highest demand among owners of residential premises. The smallest boxes have a height of 170-180 cm and a maximum wall width of 75 cm. As a rule, such models are performed symmetrically in the form of a square; they are often placed in small families, in work houses and trailers. For spacious installations, there are no restrictions on length, height or width.

The most common type of hydrobox is products with equal sides. The smallest models are considered constructions with parameters 70 x 70 cm, as well as 80 x 80 cm. However, for an adult, especially a large physique, it will be inconvenient to swim in such a booth, therefore, models with dimensions of 90 x 90 cm and 100 x 100 cm are recognized as the most popular and purchased. body weight with the convenience of taking hygiene procedures.

Typical models are presented in stores in the widest range: they can have rounded and flat sashes, doors of different types, colored, frosted and transparent glass. Thus, you can choose the optimal model for any design and style of the bathroom.

In the bathrooms, shower cabins are most often placed, the width and depth parameters of which start from 120 cm, and the length reaches 230-250 cm.

Custom dimensions

Even with a large selection of a wide variety of hydroboxes, not every bathroom can be equipped with a standard cab. This can be prevented by the location of the rest of the plumbing, utilities, as well as furniture, door sashes and other elements.

If hydroboxes of standard sizes block the approach to the rest of the bathroom elements and complicate operation, you can order shower stalls of non-standard sizes and shapes. For example, it is often necessary to supply cabins with an oval or trapezoidal pallet. Rarely found sizes also include installations with parameters 110 x 85 cm, 140 x 85 cm, 150 x 85 cm or 170 x 110 cm.

It should be noted that custom-made equipment will cost much more, but it will allow you to choose the most suitable size of the cabin. That is why non-standard hydroboxes are in high demand.

Nowadays there are no official standards and restrictions regarding the shapes, types and sizes of shower cabins... The only exception applies to products installed in public places. Initially, cabins with a high pallet were installed in all kinds of health centers, so special regulations were in force for them. Today, SNiP 2.09.04-87 established by law also applies to boxes used in hospitals, preschool, sports and other municipal institutions.

Selection Tips

When buying plumbing fixtures, do a mini test. Even in the trade enterprise, go into the hydrobox and move around in it, pretend washing the body: raise your hands, bend over, as if in order to take a fallen bar of soap. If you do not feel any discomfort, then this shower stall is right for you. If the movements are constrained, then it is worth looking at a model of slightly larger dimensions.

If you already have a bathroom bowl in your bathroom and do not want to give it up completely, then get an ordinary shower rack with partitions, which can be transformed into a hydrobox. Wherein it is important to take into account that the typical bowl height is 60-70 cm and the length of the shower column is 170, in this case, the height of the room should be at least 250 cm.

If your bathroom cannot boast of sufficient dimensions, it is better to take a closer look at other models.

    Hydroboxes can be placed on pallets with low or raised sides, the height of the former is 10 cm, the length of the latter is 40-60 cm. Models of the first type are placed almost on the floor, but then a siphon and sewer pipes must fit behind them. Models with raised sides can only be installed in spacious bathrooms.

    The shower stall may not have rear walls at all, while the walls of the room take on their role. As a rule, such models are placed on low pallets, these stalls have very compact dimensions, starting from 70x70 cm, and the length does not exceed 200 cm.Keep in mind: stalls of this type can be used exclusively as a shower room if you intend to combine a shower with a bathtub, it makes sense to opt for closed hydroboxes with a high pallet.

    In conclusion, note that the convenience of carrying out hygiene procedures in your bathroom is an important point for all family members, so try to measure all the furniture and plumbing in the bathroom several times before making a purchase decision in order to find the optimal size of the hydrobox.
