Making clothes stylish without a needle has become easy thanks to the folds.

Turn-ups on shirts, jackets and jeans speak of your good taste and awareness of the latest innovations in the fashion world. There are a number of instructions and rules on how to correctly make a turn-up on jeans in accordance with the type of jeans, by shoe model, by the height and width of the turn-up. Let's look at it in order.

Where did this model come from?

So where did the tucked jeans trend come from? Modern designers are increasingly returning to the fashion of the 80s of the 20th century, when the trend was to walk in oversized sweaters, rolled up jeans and sneakers. There are several ideas where the turn-up jeans came from.

One of the first is skaters. They tucked up jeans for a practical purpose - so that the trousers did not interfere with pushing off and skateboarding.

The second version of the transition of podvotrotov into the world of fashion is the American youth subcultures - punks and rockers, which were popular in the 80s.

This issue has not been resolved until now, and we can choose any of the versions convenient for us for the emergence of backdoors as a mass fashionable phenomenon.

Of course, this is not a 100% return to the past, but a rethinking of what has already happened. One thing is for sure - fashion is cyclical. Everything that was forgotten returned in a slightly different interpretation.

Step-by-step instructions for the type of gate

Making a stylish turn-up is an art. For example, for dense fabrics, one fold is enough for the fabric to lay down beautifully and show the beauty of your ankles.

There are three main types of folds, these are: narrow, wide and medium. What is the difference and how to make them correctly, read on in our article.

Narrow

A narrow turn-up of about 3 centimeters is more suitable for short and straight jeans to create an informal look.

  1. Wrap the bottom (bottom) of the pant leg once. You will get a fold of about 1.5 cm.
  2. Tuck the resulting fold over again. This will shorten your pant leg by about 3 cm.
  3. Stretch the leg along the main seams to secure the fold.
  4. Repeat step 1-3 with the other pant leg.

Such a fold turns out to be tight due to the base-seam. Your pant leg is now at or just above your ankle.

For this turn-up, choose tight jeans so as not to add volume to your bow.

Average

  • Set aside about 3 centimeters from the hem of the leg.
  • Tuck the pant leg this width.
  • Smooth the cuff to shape with your hand and fold it again to the same width. The middle fold is ready.
  • Repeat steps 1-3 for the second leg in the same way.

To add volume to your folds, DO NOT smooth the first fold with your hand. This will give your jeans a messy look.

The width of the middle fold is about 3-4 cm, most often it is done on boyfriend and / or gelfriend models.

Wide

In most cases, it is used for long legs. Best suited for models "pipe", "mom-jeans". Also suitable for narrow models.

  1. Add 4-5 cm to the seam at the bottom of the leg.
  2. Tuck the pant leg this length. If the fabric is very dense, it is better to make a single wide fold.
  3. Make sure the seam is flat and does not roll into the bead. Tuck the pant leg again if necessary and with the appropriate fabric.
  4. For the second leg, follow steps 1-3 in the same sequence.
  5. Smooth out the resulting folds with an iron to maintain shape.

So, you have a collar about 5-6 cm wide. Straight wide jeans are not suitable for this type of collar, otherwise your bow will not be graceful and feminine.

To prevent one fold of the jeans from unfolding, iron it with a hot iron. Do this after washing when the fabric is damp. Then the single fold will hold on better.

Who Shouldn't Do the Turns

  • Girls with a "pear" figure should not do twists on jeans, so as not to increase their volume.
  • Ladies of short stature also should not shorten their jeans in order to avoid visual shortening of the silhouette.
  • A narrow fold will help make your figure slimmer.

By type of jeans

To start experimenting with your favorite jeans, let's define their model.

For skinny

Skinny jeans are best done for skinny girls. At the same time, choose pumps with heels as shoes.

It is best for a skinny to choose narrow folds, so you emphasize the beauty of your ankles without adding volume to your lower leg.

For straight models

The best option for a turn-up is straight jeans. Tucking up straight jeans, you create a contrast that shows the gracefulness of women's ankles against a wide leg. In addition, you can easily tuck your legs down by choosing a wide turn-up or a voluminous turn-up.

Sloppy for jeans - boyfriends

For boyfriends, a medium or voluminous fold is ideal. Designers recommend turn-ups for this particular model of jeans, so that the image of "negligence" is complete.

If your boyfriends are torn, then choose a "careless" fold. To do this, make a middle fold in accordance with the instructions above, and then screw one edge of the seam outward as shown in the photo.

Double fold

An important difference between such a fold will be its width of more than 5 cm. To do this, tuck the leg as for a middle fold, repeat again so that the width is more than 5 cm. For a double fold, medium density or very heavy jeans are best suited. Be careful when choosing a double fold as it can visually shorten the leg.

Inner fold to reduce length

In most cases, the inner fold is made to shorten jeans without scissors. It is best to do these folds on skinny jeans or other thin jeans. For example, stretch.

The width of the back door here depends on your desire and the required length.

  1. Turn the jeans inside out.
  2. Roll up the leg to the required width.
  3. Smooth the fold with an iron so that the edge of the leg is straight.
  4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 for the second leg.
  5. Turn the jeans right out.
  6. Iron the bottom of the legs with an iron again to smooth the edge of the leg.

What to wear with?

Jeans with turn-ups belong to the style of casual and "grunge" It is best to combine them with wide shirts, a variety of T-shirts and long sleeves. For a more feminine look, wear a light blouse and a knitted cardigan.

A denim vest and a shirt with a small geometric print will look good.

Choose a small bag or backpack to complete your look.

Low-speed shoes are the best choice. Combine jeans with cuffs and moccasins, slip-ons or loafers.

Advice

  • Carelessly twisted turn-ups look more interesting on free-cut models.
  • To determine the required fold width, put on your jeans and look in the mirror. This will help you decide exactly what you want.
  • In jeans made of lightweight fabric, you should not do voluminous folds, otherwise you will add a couple of extra pounds to your figure.
  • In places where the dress code is observed, it is better not to appear in tucked-up jeans, as this is a casual style.
  • Flared jeans are not made for cuts, tucking in flares will make you look ridiculous.
  • Turn-up jeans and ballerinas are inappropriate, keep this in mind when deciding what to wear.
  • Choose a solid color or less flamboyant top.
  • Use a minimum of accessories.
  • The wide collar is perfect for dark jeans.
  • For light-colored jeans, choose a medium fold.
