Morality is an acquired personality trait, adherence to certain rules, which are consistent with making a decision on a particular action in relation to others. She almost always draws on religious morality, local customs, philosophical beliefs, or family traditions. To many, it seems to be synonymous with morality or ethics. Thus, then, what will be moral for some, for others may be considered unacceptable... The structure of morality depends on the social direction.

Qualities of moral behavior

Moral behavior assumes that a person can have certain qualities. Let's consider them in more detail.

Sacrifice

It is a willingness to push personal needs and wants into the background. In its extreme form, sacrifice is the willingness to give up one's life to save another person. But this is an extreme case. There are two main forms of sacrifice:

  • Stimulated by external factors, for example, moral teachings, stories about someone else's self-sacrifice, heroism, as well as other methods of education. This form is characterized by the presence of a well-founded sense of duty, as well as a sense of guilt in case of failure to fulfill it.
  • The natural form of sacrifice or self-sacrifice is characteristic of closely related relationships, where concessions for the sake of a blood member of the family are prescribed on a subconscious level. This is where natural altruism originates. A frequent manifestation is the assistance and concessions of older family members in relation to their own children and grandchildren. So, in conditions of limited provisions, it is the children who receive food in the first place. This mechanism is especially strong between mother and child, where the supremacy of the interests and needs of the second is at the level of instinct.

Justice

This is the compliance of any actions with the norms of the set of rules that a person chooses for himself, as something higher than his own desires. It is expressed both personally and in relation to other people's actions. From an emotional point of view, self-infringement of justice evokes feelings of guilt and a desire to make amends.

If justice is violated by someone, then emotions range from indignation to anger (depending on the severity of the act and the reaction of the “offender” to the reproof). The stumbling block is often a different idea of what is right and what is wrong, because people of different cultures live in one country.

In such a situation, it is especially important to have a balanced legal framework on the part of the state.

Preliminary awareness of action

People who live in accordance with any code of rules (regardless of the nature of their origin), before making a decision, check their intention with a similar rule in the law that they consider to be correct. Someone does this directly during the events, and someone represents various situations that may take place. Every act is always checked against the norm. In case of non-compliance with the norm, the law prevails among moral people.

Sympathy

Putting yourself in the place of another person, it is easier to understand not only his motives, but also how your behavior towards him looks from him, as well as how he feels at this moment. Thus, we get a look at the situation from two sides at once. This allows you to more fully assess your action. Empathy is one of the qualities appreciated at different times in many cultures, religions and schools of thought. It is one of the prerequisites for a healthy society.

Charity

It is an instrument of compassion through which a person, having penetrated into the problems of another (and having the opportunity to help him), tries to correct the current situation. Dealing with the problems of others, the moral individual manifests his own "I" in one of the highest forms.

Awe

This is a feeling of hypertrophied respect, admiration and gratitude towards traditions, great deeds, as well as their authors from previous generations. Through him, a person dissolves in the culture of society and becomes involved in its views of the world. Reverence serves the purpose of maintaining and raising the moral bar in society by guiding people to do worthy things. It instills a fear of low deeds under the threat of becoming an unworthy representative of their culture.

Rules of moral conduct

Thus, in order for behavior to be moral, the general set of rules can be expressed as follows:

  • Before you commit any act, think about what the consequences will be, how it will affect other people, whether it will harm them. Think about your actions in advance.
  • When interacting with another person, think not only about your own interests, but also about the interests of a comrade, colleague, travel companion. There is always someone who takes the first step and gives in first. A good example often resonates, and in the absence of one, it becomes clear with whom the business is being conducted.

The golden rule of morality is: "do what you want to be done in relation to you"

  • Pay attention to the problems of others, sympathize with them in difficult times, especially for lonely people and those who have no one to wait for help.
  • Provide all possible help to those who need it. Even a little participation from other people can give strength to someone who is in a difficult situation.
  • Try to act guided by informed decisions, justified not by someone else's interests.Look at things in an abstracted manner (from a neutral point of view), and also watch how other people act. For evil to prevail, the inaction of good people is enough.
  • Treat those who came before you with respect and their deeds, if they were worthy. Try to inherit from them. Anyone who strives for a high bar may not win the Olympiad, but he will still be a participant in it.

The development of a sense of responsibility should take place in early childhood. Immoral behavior is unacceptable to people. Conscience is the regulator of the behavior of many individuals. In human understanding, spirituality and morality should be in every person. The basis of etiquette has criteria that determine what actions are allowed. The basic standards and models of moral behavior should be in every person.
