The legendary 60s of the last century are the brightest period in the history of world fashion. Not surprisingly, elements of this era are reappearing on modern catwalks. Bold miniskirts, iridescent color combinations, precise geometry, large accessories and artificial fabrics formed a completely new idea of ​​fashion.

By the sixties of the twentieth century, children born in the post-war period are growing up. Despite terrible losses, Europe is recovering rapidly, and economic growth is rapidly gaining momentum. Smart and energetic young people are in great demand.

Young people have great prospects, boys and girls are able to earn good money and lead an independent adult life. They want to prove that they are different from the older generation, listen to different music and demonstrate their style of dress.

The financial independence of a huge number of guys and girls who want to demonstrate a special style of clothing leads to a change in the concept of the couturier's activities. Mass consumption made them work for more than just individual clients. The formation of a fashion infrastructure begins and the sale of certain models of clothing is legally regulated. This was the beginning of the fascination with popular brands.

The style icons of that period were women who to this day are considered models of femininity and beauty: Merlin Monroe, Audrey Hepburn, Catherine Deneuve, Sophia Loren, Brigitte Bardot, Jacqueline Kennedy. Then the girl Twiggy appears on the catwalk, who became the first world famous model.It was she who formed the concept of how fashion models should look.

It appears and spreads widely in the sixties of the last century. Famous couturiers develop clothes that reveal and emphasize the beauty of the female figure to the maximum. The wide leg pants and masculine style that were so popular in the post-war years are becoming common daily routine. Skirts are shortened to incredible sizes, called "mini".

In the 60s, fashion was characterized by contrasting combinations of colors and textures. If these are skinny dark trousers, then there was necessarily a wide light blouse on top. Wide-brimmed hats were combined with tight-fitting outfits. The dresses were in the shape of an A-line. Models with a tight-fitting top and a fluffy skirt were very popular.

Models from fabrics with contrasting prints were popular. It could be a cage, strip, peas, or other geometric shapes. Colors were selected for every taste, the main thing is contrast. And for dresses and business attire, pastel colors were more suitable. Also at the peak of popularity were abstract drawings of "psychedelic" shades.

Synthetics massively penetrate into women's wardrobes. On fashionistas you could see clothes made of vinyl or dresses with plastic inserts. The outfits were complemented by plastic necklaces made of large beads and bracelets. Hairpieces, fiery false eyelashes, lush wigs, plastic jewelry, and other "unnaturalness" were very acceptable.

Young women of the 60s of the last century were distinguished by a great sense of taste. They were intelligent youth who wanted to dress exquisitely. Therefore, any appearance must be combined with sophisticated manners and cultural behavior, otherwise the image risks appearing ridiculous.

Girls of the 1960s adored miniskirts, sundresses with an A-line or straight cut, turtlenecks, tight-fitting sweaters. In cool weather, a tweed jacket in a dark blue, brown or pink shade with three-quarter sleeves is perfect.

It is now easy to find clothes in retro style in stores. For example, it can be a dress with a tight top with wide straps, a boat neckline or bare shoulders. The skirt of such a dress, on the contrary, should be fluffy. Another characteristic cut for a dress from the last century is a trapeze.

The hairstyles were characterized by two radically different styles:

1. High "babette" flecks. They became popular thanks to Brigitte Bardot. This fluffy, fluffy hairstyle has become a symbol of the 60s.
2. Short geometric haircuts. Gained popularity along with the appearance on the catwalk of the model Twiggy.

Most fashionistas loved exactly the "babette", despite the fact that it is much more difficult to make hairs than to style hair with a simple geometric haircut. The girls also liked to do hairstyles with curled ends, and put on wide ribbons on their heads to match the dresses.

You can complement your retro outfit with large accessories. A short necklace or scarf is worn around the neck, and a large plastic bracelet on the wrist. Glasses with round lenses or in the shape of a cat's eye with thick frames were very fashionable then. White gloves can become a highlight of the outfit.

Complement the look with makeup with eyes, underlined by swallow arrows and heavily painted eyelashes. It is enough to cover the lips with lipstick of a neutral shade or gloss.

The first flight into space and other achievements in this area inspired the society of the 60s of the twentieth century, laying the foundation for the "space style", elements of which are so loved by disco fans.

At one of the shows, the famous couturier André Courrezh dressed his models in clothes made of synthetic fabric in silver shades. Hats resembling helmets, vinyl ankle boots made the models look like astronauts or aliens.Other famous couturiers such as Paco Rabanne and Pierre Cardin are also taking up this style.

Since the second half of the sixties, ethnic and hippie style have spread. They were not popular with a wide range of young people. However, a flowery, shapeless dress, combined with long, flowing hair and accessories made from natural materials, is quite suitable for recreating the look of the 1960s, even if it was unconventional.
