Classic interiors have not lost their popularity for many years. Living rooms decorated in a classic style can be seen in many houses and apartments, while the owners try to adhere to the canons of the direction. It is worth making out in more detail what are the basics of the classics, and how to properly equip the living room in accordance with this style.

Design features

The classic style includes several directions. This is antiquity as well as elite European styles. For example, classical directions can be English and American, in addition, classics from Spain and Italy are very popular. And of course, modern classic styles should not be overlooked, which are gradually modified, adjusting to the rapid flow of life.

Many directions mix, and it becomes difficult to understand which style was preferred.

However, whichever direction you choose, they all have similar canons and requirements. This point should be considered in more detail.

  • Nobility and consistency. For centuries, the classical style has been the lot of kings and powerful personalities. Since then, a lot of things have changed, but the main requirement of the style has remained - this is luxury, high cost. At the same time, the classics can look very simple and elegant.
  • Symmetry. The classic style is very restrained. A clear geometry can be traced in it, the lines are strict, but simple. This is one of those areas where you can and should use symmetry, conventionally dividing space into zones.This is especially true for antique types of classics.
  • Correct lighting. Of course, if you limit yourself to only natural light and a small chandelier, then the living room in the evenings can be gloomy and dark. Let's remember the films: most of the films show how effectively the classics manifest themselves in the light of candles. Today, buying hundreds of candles is not required, but providing the living room with light is simply necessary.
  • Natural materials. The classic style has pretentiousness, so expensive and good materials are needed to implement it: natural stone, wood, marble.

In the classic style, you cannot find:

  • space and futuristic motives;
  • excessively bright colors;
  • low-quality materials for decoration;
  • an abundance of gilding, although this is a well-known stereotype;
  • lurid colors, all kinds of catchy prints and ornaments.

    If we talk about different types of classics, then there are several differences between the styles.

    • V American classics there are complex combinations of colors, which can be both dark and light. Furniture is often made from mahogany, and there is usually a lot of decor.
    • English classics very romantic, and quite often you can find a dull red in it. Textile materials are characterized by plush, genuine leather, lace. The furniture is Victorian, massive, always wooden. Bookcases or shelves are a must.

    A tea set, beautiful antiques are welcome as a decor.

    • Spanish style very intense, southern, hot. The center of such a living room will be a sofa of "expensive" shades: snow-white, light gray, beige. In addition, you will need a wooden dimensional table. A few armchairs, large vases, full-length mirrors will be no less important.
    • In antique classics greatness and nobility are clearly traced. To bring just such notes to the living room, you should install an arch, paint the ceilings. An interesting option would be wall painting in the form of frescoes.

    The main color is ivory, it will be complemented by green, red, blue, gold.

    • Modern classic calm and cool. The rooms are simple, with an abundance of light, little furniture, only the most necessary items. In some ways, this style resembles minimalism. The colors are creamy, light, neutral, and the shade of dark chocolate is just as popular. Mint, coral, lilac, gold tones can be accent colors.

    Subtleties of planning

    The correct layout of a room begins with a simple drawing on paper or an image obtained using special programs. In this case, absolutely everything is taken into account before the repair: dimensions of windows and balcony doors, the likelihood of combining two rooms, the arrangement of furniture. In addition, it is important to immediately determine the purpose of creating a living room: someone needs a room to meet with friends, someone wants to make an office out of it, and someone plans to just relax here alone.

    Large living rooms

    Spacious living rooms are always great, because there is where to "roam". In addition to the most different furniture, in such a living room there is always a place for a real or an artificial fireplace.

    And also you should definitely think about whether the room will be divided into separate zones.... If yes, then furniture, various racks, columns, screens and partitions can be used as zoning. The aquarium will also be an interesting option. If there is no desire to zone the living room, then you can leave an open plan, in the center of which you can place a soft corner, behind which households will gather.

    Small

    In the case of small living rooms, there are not so many options for a beautiful arrangement. It will not be possible to place a lot of furniture here, you will have to put only the most necessary ones. A good design option for a small living room would be the allocation of one zone. For example, it can be a TV set in front of which there is a composition of sofas and armchairs, as well as a small coffee table. In addition, if the living room can be expanded with a balcony, you should take this chance.

    On the balcony, you can quite successfully place an office or a small room for creativity.

    Color spectrum

    After you have definitely decided to make a living room in a classic style, you should choose the right color scheme. It should be noted right away that in living rooms decorated in this style there cannot be saturated, catchy colors, the prerogative is always given to calm and neutral colors.

    • White. A pure white living room is not a very good choice, because such a room will evoke associations with a hospital. To beautifully beat white, it must be diluted with beige, light yellow, peach tones.
    • Beige. Luxurious and noble color, appropriate for absolutely all interior styles. If you use it in the classics, you need to use different textures in the decoration, as well as combine beige with gold, light blue, pinkish and lavender colors.
    • Gray. Gray shades are quite rare in classic styles, but if applied correctly, the room will become truly unique. Nevertheless, it is worth remembering that a monochrome gray interior is not an idea for a classic living room, so this design needs to be supplemented with light warm tones.
    • Brown. Quite a positive color that evokes confidence and stability. You can combine brown color with any other color. A great solution would be to add some gold to such a design.

    Finishing options

    To get an elegant and exclusive living room, you will have to spend time on its quality finishes. Let's see what you can use as materials.

    Walls

    In general, there are only two ways to decorate walls beautifully.

    • Fabric, interesting wallpaper, painting. Naturally, any option chosen should be calm and discreet. However, such solutions are still able to immediately attract attention if you pay attention to a high-quality texture.
    • Monotony. Here you can apply paint, decorative plaster, and stucco. Such ideas will appeal to those who love antique trends.

    Floor

    Mosaic parquet is considered one of the best options for flooring. Small flowers or simple geometric patterns can be depicted on it. After the parquet is laid, it is recommended to varnish it.

    Another interesting idea would be to use wood or laminate flooring. Carpets are often placed on these floors to enhance the impression. And also some owners use porcelain stoneware or marble for the floor.

    Ceiling

    It's great if the ceilings in your apartment are high. In such rooms, the classic style is best realized. But even if you are not lucky with the height, it does not matter, the main thing is to follow several recommendations:

    • the ceiling must be light, there can be no gloominess here;
    • both glossy and matte solutions are allowed;
    • one of the best options is whitewashing with stucco along the edges;
    • stretch ceilings are welcome in small rooms, plasterboard models are much less common;
    • if you want to make the room unique, you can always apply a painting on the ceiling.

    Organization of lighting

    Lighting is one of the highlights of a classic living room. To bring the right design to life, you need to choose high-quality chandeliers, because they are indispensable in this style. Chandeliers should be heavy, crystal, elegant. It is better to choose fittings made of metal, only there should be no patterns on it.

      If the living room is divided into zones, the chandelier should hang over each of them, but if the layout is open, then a central chandelier is enough.

      Chandeliers alone will not be enough, it must be supplemented.This can be achieved with the help of graceful wall lamps, beautiful sconces, floor lamps. If the lamp is placed on a bedside table, take care of a companion, because one of the criteria for style is symmetry. In addition, in any classic direction, original lighting of warm colors will be appropriate.

      Furniture selection

      As for the furniture, it can be quite massive, but at the same time lightweight. For classic living rooms, you should choose furniture made of natural wood, but satin, silk, leather, jacquard will become the material for the upholstery. Such fabrics can be upholstered with sofas, ottomans, armchairs, chairs. The sofas have decorative pillows to match the rest of the color scheme.

      If the living room is spacious, then you can put a wardrobe with a rich interior filling in it. Outside, such a wardrobe will look solid, but inside you can find a lot of various shelves that can accommodate both bulky bedding and useful little things. In addition, you can even put a bookcase in large living rooms.

      As for the coffee table, it will look great in a glass version, but this model will have to be supplemented with wood. Then you get a product that refreshes and lightens the design. You can choose the shape of the table oval, circle, square. Triangular patterns are best avoided.

      Textiles and decor

      For a living room in a classic interior, curtains are becoming an indispensable element. Fabrics should not be cheap: it is recommended to use silk, satin, organza, velvet, jacquard. The best option is heavy draped curtains. Ruches and flounces are not welcome, but a lambrequin will be a very good idea.

      As for the rest of the textiles, it is better if it matches the color of the curtains. Bedspreads, upholstery of armchairs, poufs, chairs, similar in tone, would be a good choice.

      In addition to textiles, it is very important to choose the right decor. A classic living room is very demanding at this point. The following items will do:

      • porcelain, bronze and gold decorations;
      • beautiful figurines;
      • products symbolizing antiquity;
      • elegant candlesticks and candelabra;
      • interesting sculptures.

        A classic-style living room is never complete without paintings. There should not be many of them: one or two will be enough. Images can be portraits of family members or famous personalities of antiquity, as well as tranquil landscapes and flowers. It is not recommended to adhere to modern trends in art.

        It is better to choose pretentious frames for pictures, simple wooden models will be inappropriate.

        Successful examples

        Today there are quite a few classic interiors, some of them can be designed independently, for others you have to contact professional designers.
