Red emerald is such a rare type of crystal that you cannot find it on the shelves of jewelry stores and practically cannot be bought anywhere. Jewelers all over the world call the red emerald the rarest precious crystal. Scientists estimate that the red emerald will run out much earlier than oil. The gem is deposited by wealthy collectors before it hits the counter.

The origin of the crystal

There are only two places in the world where the crystal is mined - this is the state of Utah and New Mexico. At the beginning of the 20th century, a crystal was found on the Thomas Range (Utah). The most famous cluster of red beryl crystals was found on Mount Wah Wah in the 50s. This is a unique place where the precious mineral is mined in limited quantities. 1 ton of ore contains 0.5 carats of red beryl, ready for cutting. The fact is that very few mined crystals of this mineral can be cut.

The crystal deposits are small, so the price of beryl is prohibitive (the cost of one carat is $ 10,000). All over the world, dealers have only 1 kilogram of this mineral in their hands.

Another rare variety of beryl was found on the island of Madagascar. This crystal is called pezzottaite.

Due to the high price and rarity of the precious stone, synthetic bixbit has begun to be grown in Russia.

This was done for the first time by Belarusian scientists. The stone is made using a hydrothermal method. The size of the artificial bixbit can be 10 centimeters. In the manufacture of red emeralds, a pressure of 3 thousand atmospheres and a temperature of 600 degrees Celsius are used. The stone turns out to be easily processed, viscous. It is easier to work with than natural beryl.

Bixbit shades

The gem has a crimson hue. The color scheme of shades does not differ in variety:

  • crimson red;
  • strawberry red;
  • gooseberry red.

A different color of bixbit speaks of a type of crystal or makes one think about the authenticity of a gem. Pezzottaite is a type of bixbit, so it has a different shade - pink.

The name of the bixbit stone comes from the name of the discoverer. A collecting geologist finds a mineral in the rocks of Utah.

But in geology there was already a name similar to this - bixbit. To avoid confusion, geologists refer to bixbit crystals as red beryl.

This mineral belongs to the silicate class, creating prismatic, acicular, tabular crystals, as well as continuous granular masses. The mineral grows in granite pegmatites, greisens, skarns, and hydrothermal deposits. Beautifully colored crystals are cut, like precious stones. The physical characteristics of beryl are as follows:

  • high hardness;
  • translucency;
  • glass luster;
  • fragility in faceting;
  • crimson color without inclusions and defects;
  • has an admixture of manganese ions;
  • kink curve;
  • imperfect cleavage;
  • the largest faceted stone weighs 10 carats;
  • withstands temperatures of 1000 degrees Celsius;
  • withstands radiation.

It is believed that the stone has magical properties, although it is unlikely to find beryl among psychics, fortune-tellers, magicians, sorcerers. Synthetic stone, probably, also has magical and medicinal properties, like natural beryl:

  • accident protection;
  • help with gynecological diseases;
  • stops pain: toothache, headache, muscle pain;
  • good for strengthening the nervous system;
  • has a beneficial effect on the cardiovascular system;
  • improves vision;
  • gives well-being to the owner;
  • removes troubles and quarrels;
  • maintains men's health;
  • helps to get rid of laziness and achieve success;
  • protects from the evil eye, envy;
  • maintains family relationships;
  • improves mental ability;
  • helps travelers find their way;
  • the ancient Egyptians attributed to the emerald the ability to recognize thoughts, foresee the future, and turn dreams into reality.

      Red emerald suits public people who perform a lot in front of people. Gives them confidence, eloquence, strength. According to the sign of the zodiac, it is more suitable for Gemini, Scorpio, Cancer and Libra.

      • It will help Gemini succeed.
      • It will allow Scorpios to become softer and more caring.
      • Libra will get rid of passivity.
      • Cancers help to create a reliable rear, giving courage and determination.

      This mineral destroys negative energy, cleans the owner's biofield. You should not buy jewelry with beryl for Aries.

      Differences

      Farmed red emeralds are difficult to distinguish from real ones.

      The main differences are in the composition of the mineral. The presence of water in the composition of the stone indicates a fake. A crystal larger than 0.5 carat cannot be real either. Refraction is higher for a fake.

      Also, red emerald can be confused with faceted dioptase or ashirite. In another way, this mineral is called a copper stone, it is not precious. The properties of these stones are identical, although differences in the composition of the stones can be noticed when magnified. Perfect cleavage, low hardness, the presence of cracks - in the copper mineral.

      An iridescent gem, which is yellowish and pink to green in color, is sometimes passed off as beryl.

      He has nothing to do with the latter. This mineral is a type of tourmaline.

      Jewelry stores sell artificial red emeralds or beryl varieties. Real stone cannot be purchased... When choosing a precious mineral, you need to pay attention to the price of the crystal, physical properties and size. If necessary, you need to contact a specialist.

      There is also a popular way of choosing a stone: you need to take a mineral in your hand, if you do not want to part with it, then this is the right choice. You need to listen to your intuition and heart.They say that natural stones are always cool, give off cold when you take them in your hands.

      Beryl is inserted into earrings, necklaces, brooches, pendants. Most often, the frame is gold, platinum, silver. Like all precious products, beryl also needs to be cared for. Protect the stone from mechanical damage and from the sun. Store jewelry in a special bag. Rinse from time to time to remove dirt and dry well, and wipe with a cloth daily.

      A real red emerald is beautiful, has medicinal properties, but it is unrealistic to get it. However, you can afford a beautiful faux red emerald jewelry and enjoy a unique gem.
