In everyday life, it is customary to call a thermos a special heat-insulating dish. It is able to maintain a higher or lower temperature of food products for a long time in comparison with the temperature indicator of the environment. A patent for the invention of a thermos in 1907 was received by the German entrepreneur Reingold Burger, who developed it on the basis of the Dewar vessel, and significantly improved it.

Nowadays, not only drinks and broths are stored in a thermos. The solution to the question of how to keep warm and tasty homemade food on the road is the so-called thermos pan or thermal pan.

Device and principle of operation

The appearance of the hot pot is similar to an ordinary stainless steel kitchen utensil. But its internal structure consists of a unique double thermal insulation system. Thermal insulating material is fixed between the layers of such dishes, which helps to maintain a certain temperature. A layer of thermal insulation allows you to keep inside and cold.

If you put frozen food in a thermos pan, then for about 4-6 hours it can work as a small refrigerator.

The lid of the hot pot has a special bayonet lock. After placing food in the pan, close the lid and turn it to such a position that the locks on the handles will go into the grooves. Now the thermos pan can be transported, even with strong shaking, all food inside it is reliably protected and will not leak out. In addition, such a lock prevents the spread of odors.

Advantages and disadvantages

When choosing kitchen utensils, it should be borne in mind that thermal pots have the following advantages:

  • food-grade stainless steel does not absorb the smells of food placed in it and is very easy to clean both by hand and using a dishwasher;
  • thermal dishes are very good at maintaining both warm and cold temperatures inside;
  • retains useful substances that can be lost when heated;
  • has a sealed bayonet lock;
  • retains the taste and aroma of food better than reheating;
  • produced in both small (1 liter) and large volumes (3-5 liters, and even 7);
  • small saucepans are convenient to take to work as lunch boxes.

The disadvantages include the high price of some brands of thermal pots, as well as the fact that they cannot be used on the stove and in the microwave oven.

What can be stored and how to use?

The thermos pan is ideal for simmering any porridge, it is only necessary to place it inside a thermal pan after cooking in ordinary dishes, and the result will be as amazing as if the cereal was languishing in a Russian oven.

In such a container, you can transport freshly baked pies, whites, muffins, pancakes. Thermal pots preserve the taste and aroma of meat, poultry, fish, pasta and vegetables. If you have a long trip out of town for a picnic, then the mini-fridge will perfectly preserve the freshness of seafood for grilling, any vegetables and milk.

Thermos pans with a hermetically sealed lid perfectly preserve the freshness of marinated meat for barbecue.

Such dishes are not intended to be used to cook food in them, but it is not difficult to make yogurt or kefir in them. To do this, put a liter of warm milk inside and put one or two tablespoons of natural yogurt in it. Stir the mixture and let stand with the lid open for 5-8 minutes, then close the bayonet lock and wait 3-4 hours. The homemade yogurt is then ready to eat. If you put kefir instead of yogurt, you can get delicious cottage cheese.
