Words and symbols play an important role in our life. Sometimes it is enough to hear one single phrase and become the happiest in the world, and sometimes it is enough to read a couple of words beautifully engraved on the ring and understand what the meaning of life is. The spoken words are just air, and the drawn letters are a memory for centuries.

History

They learned how to decorate rings and other jewelry with text or a symbolic image since ancient times. According to Jewish sources, the beginning was laid during the life and reign of King Solomon.

There is a legend that the king was presented with a ring with the short phrase "It will pass." Somehow, in a fit of anger, he took off his gift and noticed on the inside the text "This too will pass." The phrase calmed Solomon, the ring became a talisman and a symbol of wisdom.

Another legend says that God's name was written on the finger, which served as a symbol of the king's extraordinary wisdom.

Be that as it may, but the fashion for these products began in the Middle Ages. Europeans began to wear rings more and more often, borrowed from the Egyptians. They became family decorations for the French and British, who tried in every possible way to personalize them with engraving. The rulers gave such rings to their favorites as a symbol of their favor to the courtiers.

Soon, lettering spread to wedding rings. Moreover, it was customary to write text inside the decoration.

The first engraving machines appeared in the Baroque era. This expanded the capabilities of the craftsmen and influenced the mass production of products.

Views

Engraving on rings differs in technology and application methods. The importance of the font and its size plays an important role in this.

By processing technology

Manual

From start to finish, the entire process is performed by the hands of a master using incisors called a graver. This is the most ancient method, which is relevant and highly valued today.

The price for this engraving is quite high. It is due to the highest skill of the engraver and accuracy, because the smallest mistake irreparably spoils the ring. On the other hand, thanks to hand engraving, original texts and highly artistic images are obtained.

Mechanical

This is the easiest and cheapest way to design rings. Engraving is done on a specially designed machine. The only drawback is the inability to make the inscription (image) convex or three-dimensional. In this case, the surface of the ring should be perfectly flat. The size of the machine also limits the size of the engraving.

Diamond

A special machine is equipped with a diamond-coated needle, which engraves perfectly smooth rings with a glossy surface. Since there are no chemical reagents during the drawing process, the print remains shiny for a long time, it will not fade or rub off.

Laser

This ultra-modern look has almost no inaccuracies or damage potential. The laser beam is precisely directed and also precisely moves along the trajectory, according to the created sketch, which is included in the computer program. The laser heats up the surface of the ring in a point, as a result of which the metal melts, changing its color and creating the desired texture. As a result, cavities are obtained, from which the engraver makes an inscription or a pattern.

In this way, you can engrave not only on the outer surface, but also on the inner one. The latter type is practical, since it is not exposed to an aggressive environment. And for newlyweds it is a personal message.

Determined by laser engraving on the image. It has a deep gray color.

By the method of drawing

Embossed

Separate areas between the letters on the precious metal are cut manually or with the help of a laser, as a result the relief becomes voluminous and rises above the surface of the ring.

Deep

The engraving is obtained "sinking" due to the application of indentations on the ring using a diamond needle or a mechanical machine.

Font type

The text is applied in a font that can be read, that is, without excessive curliness. For example, it can be a monogram - AL1, ALS, Fl or RM. Decorative ones are also popular, such as PLN, Coventry and Alienware.

The size

Ideally, if the phrase contains no more than 20 letters. The height and width of the font are selected depending on the size of the ringlet.

Ideas for engraving

The options for inscriptions and prints are countless, but, unfortunately, the imagination of engravers and owners of the ring can only be limited by the area of the product.

What will be applied to the product is determined only by the mood of its owner and its character.

For themed rings

In addition to names and memorable phrases, many are interested in wearing a ring with a plot pattern or with special symbols.

Girls with a romantic mood are often asked to depict hearts, flowers, a beautiful pair of pigeons or other birds, various ribbons.

Those who are fond of mysticism and esotericism endow their fingers with the same mystical symbols with a deep and sacred meaning.

Every self-respecting fan of science fiction must have a ring of their favorite hero. For example, The Ring of Omnipotence from the Lord of the Rings trilogy by S. Tolkien is extremely popular.

Girls with a creative mind like products with catch phrases in Latin or any other language. Believers are delighted with copies with the inscription "Save and Preserve" or with lines from a prayer.

For engagement models

The engraving of classic wedding rings is in great demand. On them, the newlyweds write down information that is meaningful to them. For example, their names (affectionate nicknames, nicknames), the date of the engagement, possibly the date of the first date or the day of acquaintance, some additionally indicate the place. Couples with a sense of humor imprint phone numbers, quotes from a movie or a favorite song on the surface.

Models with phrases split into two wedding rings are interesting. One half is engraved on the bride's product, and the other ends on the product of the future husband, or vice versa.

In addition to classic products, newlyweds are offered compound rings with engraving. The invented inscription is placed on the lower base, closed with a wide upper ring. Together they are secured with a special lock. And if you move the upper part, then the closed recording will be visible from prying eyes.

Examples of popular inscriptions

In Russian

The artist's portfolio contains many humorous and classic inscriptions. More often there are love letters that speak of sincere feelings for their soul mate. For example:

  • “Caught” or “of good will”;
  • "Not subject to change";
  • “I live / breathe you”;
  • "Together and forever" or "forever yours";
  • "you are my happiness";
  • "Approved";
  • "You are me" or "my world is you".

It is popular to write messages of a classical nature on the inner side of the ringlet, as they carry a sacred meaning, which is intended for two.

There are also wishes "for happiness", "in a good hour." On memorable gifts they write "with love", "for a long memory."

For those who like short inscriptions, a variant of the phrase can be "movement - life".

In a foreign language

There are a number of romantic phrases and quotes:

  • "Te extrano" - I miss you.
  • "Hasta los últimos días" - until the last day.
  • “I love you” - I love you, but it can sound in all languages of the world (Miluji te - in Czech, Jeg elsker dig - in Danish).
  • "Actions are stronger than words" - actions are more important than words.
  • "You are the master of your life" - you are the master of your life.

No matter how many examples of quotes and phrases you read, the words for your ringlet should come from the soul and from the heart

Advice

It is important to take into account some of the nuances before carrying your wedding or regular ring for engraving.

The size

A product that does not fit your size should be corrected before applying your chosen text or print. Changing the ring after drawing the image will hopelessly distort the engraving and, accordingly, spoil it.

Material selection

Not every precious or cheap metal is suitable for engraving. The properties of the material will affect the complexity of the work, and therefore the cost of the service:

  • Engraving rings made of silver and jewelry steel will be inexpensive.
  • Tin and cupronickel are too soft, so they are categorically unsuitable.
  • As for gold, it is advisable to choose an item of 585 assay value. Models 950 sample are fusible and too plastic, therefore, the possibility of distortion or blurring of the image is not excluded.
  • Platinum and palladium lend themselves very well to any kind of engraving.

The ratio of the width of the ring and the number of characters

The smaller the width of the product, the more concise the inscription should be and the more unusual it will look. Of course, masters will be able to fit the text in a couple of lines, only it will probably be difficult to read due to the small print.

Also, pay attention to punctuation and spelling, because mistakes cannot be erased.

The meaning of the selected characters

Before applying various esoteric signs, magical or folk symbols, as well as runes or hieroglyphs, it is important to know what the symbol means. Not everyone is suitable for a talisman ring. You should also be wary of phrases in a foreign language. They will become not only part of the ring, but also the motto of your life.

And finally, I would like to say that engraving can make an ordinary ring unique, and for little money.
