Three months is not the easiest age for a kitten. In most cases, it is at this time that little fuzzies have to leave their habitable places and move to new owners. Many breeders prefer to give kittens at 12-13 weeks of life, when the babies can already be separated from their mother and move to a new place without unnecessary worries. However, it is at this time that kittens require special care and reverent attitude.

Development features

A kitten at 3 months is already a fully formed personality. It was at this time that he begins to demonstrate his character and disposition. At this stage, re-educating a feline child will be very difficult. Three-month-old babies are already easily guided and can quickly figure out and remember where feeders, drinkers and a tray are located in the apartment, where you can sleep and where you shouldn't climb.

At 3 months old, the kitten can remember its name and respond to it. That is why at this stage kittens are given or sold more often - they can already start living in new conditions and quickly adapt to them.

It is at the age of 3 months that kittens have not yet completed that very period of "imprinting", when the baby remembers the appearance and image of all creatures that become dear to him. For this reason, the new owners of a kitten can count on the fact that their young pet will become strongly attached to them and will consider them “theirs”.

At 3 months, a small cat or cat begins to grow actively. They can already be given solid food. At this stage, males and females acquire more noticeable differences and look different. This refers primarily to the size and weight of heterosexual animals. On average, kittens at 3 months reach a mass of 1.5-2.3 kg.Of course, a lot here also depends on the specific breed from which the babies come.

By human standards, 3-month-old kittens are two years old. They may react differently to a new environment. Some kids very carefully explore a new space, pondering their every step, while others will hide behind a sofa or other furniture for several days, moving away from stress. In such situations, the owners should understand that the little kitten needs some time to adapt.

How to care?

A 3-month-old kitten must be properly looked after. Fragile babies will need to create all the conditions for a comfortable life and further growth / development.

It is necessary to equip a good sleeping place for the baby. In modern pet stores, you can find a lot of different cribs for kittens. These can be simple rugs and couches or special charming houses in which the baby will be very comfortable.

It is advisable to equip a sleeping place in about the same way as it was equipped in the house of a kitten breeder.

Place a tray for your baby. If you purchased a kitten from a breeder, then most likely he will already know where to go for natural needs. You will only need to show him the place in the new house where the tray will stand. To do this, immediately after eating, the mustache should be taken there and placed in the tray for a while. Due to this, he will quickly get used to the new environment and will go to the toilet as it should.

Buy a good kitty litter. It is advisable to use the same product that the breeder used. The habitual smell of the filler will remind the kitten of previous habits and skills. He will immediately understand what exactly the place to which you will accustom him is intended for.

Do not yell at your baby if he leaves a small puddle on the floor. There is nothing wrong with that - the kitten is just not yet fully accustomed to the new environment for him. Just wipe this place in the house with a napkin, and then walk along the tray with it, so that the cat is guided by smells, looking for a place to cope with needs.

It is recommended to buy bowls of several types for small kittens. One of them will be used for dry food, the second will be used for liquid food and canned food, and the third will be used for clean and fresh water.

At 12-14 weeks, the kitten should expect a second complex vaccination. The first occurs at 9 weeks. Before being vaccinated, kittens are treated for helminths at 10-12 weeks. These procedures should not be neglected, since there are many serious diseases that can affect a small kitten if it is not vaccinated.

Do not forget about toys, especially if the baby is hyperactive. For a 3-month-old kitten, you should buy soft and safe products: balls, fish, fabric mice. The main thing is that there are no small parts on the toys that the cat can accidentally choke on while playing. And also the kitten needs to buy a scratching post so that he does not spoil the furniture in the house.

Monitor the condition of your baby's coat. Find a special shampoo that works for your kitten. You can bathe a cat no more than once every 3 months. A kitten, especially a long-haired one, should be combed daily.

The kitten's eyes should be examined for purulent discharge. They should not be, and if they appear, then you should contact your veterinarian. The plaque in the corners of the cat's eyes should be wiped off with a cotton swab. Check your baby's ears at least once a week. They must be clean, odorless, free of plaque and black blotches. You can clean the ears with cotton swabs using a special solution.

Examine your baby's claws once a week. They must be trimmed with special scissors in a timely manner, so that it is more convenient for you and the kitten is not injured.

Play with your baby more, pet him, be kind. Give him enough attention, and try not to leave home alone for long.

How and what to feed?

The menu for a 3 month old kitten must be prepared carefully. You need to immediately decide what exactly you plan to feed the cat - natural products or ready-made industrial feed.

As for natural products that can be eaten by kittens, experts advise from 3 months to add the following food to the kittens' diet:

  • boiled and finely chopped low-fat meat (beef or chicken);
  • high quality raw meat;
  • kefir and fermented baked milk without additives, low-fat dairy products;
  • fresh chopped vegetables - pumpkin, zucchini, cabbage;
  • boiled and sliced egg yolk or raw;
  • lean sea fish without pits;
  • porridge with milk, water or broth;
  • vegetable oil in small quantities to improve digestion.

The kitten should be given such natural products only if they are absolutely fresh and of high quality. With this diet, your baby will grow up healthy and energetic.

Do not salt, pepper, spice, fry, pickle or smoke food for cats. Food from the table will not work for kittens either. Discard chicken and fish bones - remove them. Don't give sweets.

Ready-made food can also be given to kittens, but it is better to choose premium or super-premium options, which do not contain preservatives of unknown origin, coloring components and flavor enhancers. There should be no excess chemistry in such food. If you decide to feed a 3-month-old kitten with such food, then you need to take into account some rules.

  • Do not mix dry and wet food together. If the kitten eats such food, it will lead to serious health problems over time.
  • It is best to stick with a specific brand of food and cancel it if necessary.

The finished feed should contain natural ingredients. Meat must be present. If the product is not saturated with proteins, then there will be too little benefit for a little fuzz. Choose only high quality branded products. You can consult your veterinarian about which commercial food is best to take, especially if you have a demanding kitten of a certain breed.

At the age of 3 months, the kitten should be fed in small portions about 5 times a day.

Parenting rules

Consider some basic rules for raising kittens at 3 months.

  • Talk to your baby in the right tone. If he misbehaves somewhere, the tone should be more serious and rude. The animal will not understand a single word, but it will be clear from the intonation that you are unhappy with something, and he did something wrong.
  • Don't yell at the kitten. In return, get the appropriate attitude.
  • In no case should you beat kittens, otherwise they will grow up embittered and intimidated.
  • The kitten must follow a daily routine. Always show your animal when you are unhappy with something. Do it right away.
  • Be disciplined with your kitten. If you give him a treat, holding it in your arms and sitting at the table, then you should not be surprised that the animal itself climbs on the table.
  • Don't let your toddler carry food outside of the bowl. Having noticed this, one must strictly say (not shout) to the cat "You can't!" and pick up the treat, put it back in the bowl.
