Spirulina masks are very popular today. Such procedures are widely used for skin rejuvenation and cleansing both in salons and at home.

Composition and properties of the product

Spirulina is a type of spiral-shaped algae that has lived on Earth for over a million years. The plant contains a huge amount of minerals, organic compounds, vitamins and essential acids. So, thanks to the presence of arachidonic, eicosapentaenoic, stearidonic and docosahexaenoic acids, spirulina has a powerful anti-inflammatory and drying effect, and also relieves the skin of acne and eliminates the greasy shine. The microelements that make up the algae activate intracellular processes and significantly slow down the aging of cells. Pigments noticeably improve complexion and reliably protect the skin from the harmful effects of ultraviolet radiation.

Due to the presence of thiamine, riboflavin, nicotinamide and pyridoxine, cellular respiration is enhanced, inflammatory processes are stopped, the condition with psoriasis is alleviated. Ascorbic acid, which is part of spirulina, gives the skin elasticity, whitens age spots and stimulates collagen synthesis, while vitamins of group D perfectly tone and refresh the skin. Retinol, which is part of the algae, is of great rejuvenating importance. Thanks to this vitamin, the relief of the face is noticeably leveled, deep wrinkles are straightened, and effective rejuvenation of the epidermis occurs.

Spirulina has a wide range of uses. It includes traditional medicine, dietetics and cosmetology. For cosmetic purposes, the plant is used to strengthen hair and in the manufacture of face masks.

Indications for use

The use of spirulina as the main component of face masks is advisable in several cases. First of all, it is the presence of very dry and sensitive skin, or, conversely, very oily. In the latter case, the sebaceous glands function so actively that an ugly shine is constantly present on the face. In addition to skin problems, spirulina effectively fights the first signs of facial aging, which appear in the form of facial wrinkles and nasolabial folds. Algae masks are also good for those who want to get rid of freckles, seasonal pigmentation and old scars.

It should be noted that spirulina is not the elixir of youth. It helps to only partially get rid of existing problems or significantly reduce their manifestation. In addition, there are contraindications to the use of the preparations contained in the algae. So, the use of masks with spirulina is not recommended for persons with thyroid dysfunction or with individual iodine intolerance. And for people with the presence of neoplasms of unclear etiology on the skin, the use of spirulina is completely prohibited. It is also impossible to apply algae to the skin during pregnancy and lactation.

Application features

Before using spirulina masks, you should read the general recommendations for their use.

  • If you plan to make a mask from algae, then you need to have a lot of time. The procedure requires a certain amount of care, therefore it cannot be performed in a short time.
  • Spirulina powder should only be purchased from trusted suppliers who can document the origin of the product. This requirement is due to a large number of low-quality counterfeits, the use of which may be harmful to skin health.
  • It is only necessary to mix the components that make up the mask in glass or ceramic cups. The use of aluminum containers is unacceptable.
  • The mask can only be applied to a face that has been cleaned of cosmetics and is steamed. Masking cosmetic creams or makeup residues is not permitted.
  • The duration of the procedure should not exceed 15-20 minutes. Otherwise, you can get a chemical burn of the skin, the treatment of which will take quite a long time.
  • It is necessary to remove the mask using a sufficient amount of warm liquid, and filtered or mineral water will be the best option for washing. It is recommended to apply the cream to the face immediately after removing the mask.
  • The frequency of application of spirulina masks should not exceed twice a week.

Recipes

The complexity of preparing a particular mask depends on the number of components and the need for accurate calculations of their amount. As a rule, multicomponent masks are made in beauty salons using precise scales and auxiliary professional preparations. However, simple formulations with a small number of ingredients with your own hands are easy to make, for this you just need to strictly adhere to the recipe and have the necessary set of improvised means. Conventionally, all spirulina masks can be divided into three categories: cleansing compounds, anti-wrinkle products and moisturizing mixtures.

Anti-wrinkle products are often referred to as anti-aging drugs. There are several effective anti-aging recipes. The following are the most popular formulations.

  • To prepare the mask, you will need 2 small spoons of gelatin, 50 ml of mineral water, 4 crushed spirulina tablets, 1 teaspoon of lemon juice and 3 drops of vitamin A. Gelatin is mixed with water and heated in a water bath. Then spirulina, vitamin A and lemon juice are added to the resulting composition, mixed well and applied in a thin layer to the skin of the face. After 10 minutes, the mask is washed off, and the face is lubricated with a nourishing cream.
  • This mask will require 1 large spoonful of dry seaweed, the same amount of oatmeal and thick sour cream. Water is added as needed, depending on the consistency of sour cream. The mask is very effective in combating the first signs of skin aging, but with deep wrinkles it will no longer be able to help.
  • For the next mask, take one tablespoon of wheat flour and spirulina powder, 25 g of dry yeast, one teaspoon of sugar and a little mineral water without gas. All components are mixed well and applied to the face for 15 minutes, however, the area around the eyes and near the lips should be left untreated. Optimal treatment regimen: twice a week for a month.
  • This mask is specially designed to be applied to the eye and lip area. It is made on the basis of two tablespoons of sour cream, four tablets of seaweed, a beaten egg and two teaspoons of rice flour. Moreover, for dry skin, only yolk is added to the composition, and for oily skin - protein.
  • The combined use of blue clay and spirulina gives a good anti-aging effect. To do this, pour a teaspoon of flax seeds with boiling water and leave for 12 hours. Then filter the resulting infusion, add 1/2 teaspoon of clay and spirulina, mix thoroughly and apply to the skin for 15 minutes. As the mask dries, it is recommended to moisturize it without letting it dry on the face.
  • The laminar mask allows you to activate the processes inside the cells and corrects the oval of the face. To prepare it, 15 g of dry kelp is mixed with three algae tablets, 20 ml of natural yogurt is added and left for 30 minutes. Then it is applied to the steamed skin of the face and kept for up to 40 minutes.
  • The following mixture will help to achieve an instant lifting effect: 1 yolk is mixed with 1 tsp. olive oil, 1 tsp. apple juice, 1 tbsp. l. dry spirulina and 1 tsp. dry crushed citrus peels. The resulting mixture is allowed to brew for 15 minutes, then applied to the face and kept for no more than half an hour. Wash off the mask with a decoction of chamomile or parsley.

Purifying masks can effectively get rid of acne and pimplesand also normalize the function of the sebaceous glands and cleanse the pores. In order to prepare the cleansing composition, take a spoonful of dry seaweed, 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda and chamomile decoction. The components are mixed and applied to the skin for 10-15 minutes. The second recipe, judging by numerous reviews, does an excellent job with blackheads and deep acne. In order to prepare such a mask, take 3 tablets of crushed activated carbon, mix with one tablet of spirulina and add 2 tablespoons of water. Apply the composition to clean steamed skin for no more than 10 minutes.

A spirulina moisturizing mask is prepared as follows: one large spoonful of algae powder is mixed with mashed cucumber, chopped to a consistency. It is applied to the skin of the face and hands for 20 minutes, after which it is washed off with warm water and blotted dry with a napkin.

Spirulina masks are an affordable and effective anti-aging treatment. Their use allows you to moisturize and cleanse your face at home, due to which you will look young and well-groomed.
