70s fashion is back and revived the crochet trend. Now needlewomen are actively mastering forgotten knitting techniques. Knitting is very relevant in one of the old ways - crochet. On catwalks and red carpets, beauties in delicate handmade outfits stroll. Famous fashion houses include crochet lace in their collections.

What it is?

Crochet is a name of French origin, which means "hook". But the lace itself, or rather, the technique of its manufacture, does not come from France. This type of lace weaving has its own characteristics:

  • many through holes;
  • airy texture;
  • exquisite openwork.

The resulting products differ from the rest of the openwork items in their extraordinary lightness and grace. At the same time, they are quite simple to perform: any novice needlewoman can learn to knit lace.

The inhabitants of Arabia were the first to master this type of needlework. Good trade relations between Arabian merchants and Spanish merchants contributed to the development of the history of lace in Europe. For the first time, details of crochet lace weaving were described in the pages of the Dutch magazine "Penelope" in 1823. This occupation turned out to be painstaking and took a lot of time, therefore in the 19th century only representatives of the aristocracy were engaged in it.

During the difficult period that fell in the 40s, crocheting became the only available way to embellish worn-out things. Women used crochet and thread to create overhead cuffs on sweaters, collars on worn necklines of dresses, and even knitted sweaters and sweaters. Turbans and nets came into fashion. The mesh helped to style the hair, because at that time all that was left was to remember about hairdressing.

In the 50s, interest in crocheted products did not fade away. The lace fits perfectly into the new fashion aesthetics. It favorably emphasized feminine silhouettes, so soon they were not only decorated with clothes, but also knitted dresses, sweaters, skirts, shawls, handbags and even hats. Crochet also left its mark on the wedding fashion of that era. Due to the shortage of fabrics, all outfits had to be created from what was available.

In the 70s, knitting has become the most popular occupation, and fashion designers have been actively working in this direction. Whole collections with knitted products were created, which was facilitated by the prosperity of the hippie movement and the trend for everything natural and handmade. Knitting patterns were published in fashion magazines, prompting many to get carried away with the creation of openwork things. Today, the fashion world is experiencing a resurgence in the popularity of crochet lace. At the shows of eminent designers, models demonstrate an openwork exclusive. Several brands have already released bags in this style.

It is noteworthy that the crochet is still created exclusively by hand.

How is it made?

Crochet can be performed in various styles depending on the skills or preferences of the needlewoman. The designer collections also feature items of different themes, crocheted exclusively with the help of hands.

For crochet lace, bulky threads are used, twisted in the opposite direction to their twisting on the spinning machine. Then they are woven and twisted again, pointing in the other direction. Thus, an airy, almost weightless yarn is obtained. The lace is crocheted, observing a rare step and performing openwork elements from which various patterns are made.

What is it used for?

Modern fashion suggests wearing such transparent things with basic clothes: turtlenecks, shirts, tops, shorts. A midi-length dress looks spectacular at special occasions. In combination with a bright clutch or a matching handbag, you can create a beautiful look for different occasions. You can create a colorful bow by wearing a multi-colored boho-style dress with pointed ankle boots. By the way, add-ons in the form of woven bracelets and a perforated tote bag will come in handy.

Another incredibly stylish option is a suit consisting of a thin lace top and a midi-length skirt. They can be used to create a delightful summer vacation outfit. A blouse or cropped lace T-shirt will perfectly complement summer shorts, a mini-skirt or a boho-style floor skirt. So the basic wardrobe for the summer is ready!

Openwork dresses with large holes, reminiscent of a fishing net, are a newfangled trend. Dresses made of knitted "squares" with handmade lace flowers can be very romantic. Although they seem to be very frank. Therefore, under such a dress, one more layer of clothing must be worn. This is usually a shirt or top with tight-fitting short shorts.

Crochet lace tunics are perfect for a beach holiday. A handmade white dress looks great, worn over a contrasting bikini in a bright color. Choosing the right shoes to match your bathing suit, you can become an object of attention and admiration for vacationers.

In general, crochet is an excellent and affordable opportunity to profitably present your own originality. A girl in lace knitted clothes will not go unnoticed anywhere.
