Bombers have not gone out of fashion for several seasons in a row, but this year the variety of colors and models is especially pleasing to the eye. If you can't decide what kind of outerwear to wear in the off-season, choose it! Even if you have a whole arsenal of different jackets, jackets and trench coats in your wardrobe, a bomber jacket will still not be superfluous. On the contrary, he runs the risk of becoming your favorite, which you no longer want to take off.

A bit of history

The first bomber jacket was designed specifically for bomber pilots. Today it is difficult to believe it, but it happened during the First World War. At that time, the cockpits of the aircraft were not yet equipped with protective glasses, and it was very cold at high altitudes.

Therefore, initially bombers were voluminous sheepskin coats made of thick leather lined with sheep's fur. They had a turn-down collar and a belt around their abdomen that kept the cold wind out.

Along with the improvement of aircraft, the bomber was also improved. When the cabins became heated, they began to sew it from horse leather, it became much lighter and more comfortable.

Nevertheless, the bulky leather models still interfered with the control of the aircraft, so before the outbreak of World War II, the development of bombers from a light but warm material began. It was nylon, which for a long time solidified its position as a leader. Then a service pocket appeared on the sleeve of the jacket, which remains there to this day.

The bomber underwent the last changes at the end of the 40s, this was the moment of the appearance of the famous MA-1 model. Then they finally abandoned the voluminous fur collar, which interfered with the pilots, replacing it with a knitted one. Today the shape of this collar is the hallmark of any bomber jacket.

Like any piece of military clothing, the bomber jacket was part of many subcultures. Since the 60s, this jacket has been worn by skinheads, goths, and football fans.

Our bomber has become popular thanks to films about American schoolchildren, where it is part of a school uniform. Since then, it has firmly established itself in the modern wardrobe and consciousness as a stylish and sexy outerwear. After all, what girl would not dream of being the girlfriend of the captain of the baseball team, whom he allowed to vilify his jacket?

Are Bomber and Pilot the same thing?

The legendary jacket got its name from the profession of bomber pilots. It was called "flightjacket" or "bomber jacket", which are essentially the same thing. However, at the moment there are some differences.

We call a bomber a jacket made of fabric (nylon, knitwear, fleece, silk, cotton, etc.) with an elastic band at the waist and sleeves. Distinctive features of the product are a free silhouette, a zipper or buttons and a rounded neckline.

The pilot jacket is the prototype of the very first bombers, in fact, a sheepskin coat with a high collar, fur lining and a belt at the waist. Such jackets are also popular, but are more suitable for the winter season.
