Patches can talk about our hobbies or views of the world

Patches on clothes were not always just a style element. Initially, a patch meant belonging to a certain type of activity or group of people. Today, this function of patches is often forgotten, and they are used only as decoration or a way to hide defects on clothes.

However, there are still spheres of life in which stripes are given great importance, since they serve as a means of transmitting information (this applies, for example, to law enforcement agencies).

In this article, we will tell you about the role of patches in modern fashion, namely patches on women's jackets. You will learn what patches are, how to sew them on correctly and with what things you can combine jackets decorated with stripes.

Views

There are a huge number of different options for patches on clothes. They differ in the field of application, in the form and in the method of attachment.

According to the scope of use (or by topic), the following types of stripes can be distinguished:

  • military;
  • sports;
  • biker;
  • educational;
  • corporate, etc.

Depending on the shape, the following types of stripes are distinguished:

  • rounded;
  • rectangular;
  • curly;
  • in the form of a shield, etc.

If we talk about fashionable jackets, then most of them are decorated with individual stripes that do not have any meaning and do not belong to any of the above categories. These can be abstract drawings, images of famous characters, animals, etc. - that is, such stripes perform exclusively a decorative function.

There are several possible ways to attach patches to clothing, for example:

  • sewing on;
  • Velcro fastening;
  • gluing;
  • pin fastening;
  • fastening with a magnetic clasp;
  • mount on a keychain.

Patches on jackets

Patches are a great way to update an old denim or leather jacket. They can not only refresh and give new charm to an already boring thing, but also serve as a patch that will not be conspicuous. Let's consider the most interesting options for placing patches on jackets.

On the back

Large stripes look best on the back of the jacket - this is exactly the case when instead of several small images you should choose one large one. Among girls, patches on the back in the form of wings, birds or representatives of the feline family are very popular.

On the chest

On the chest, patches are usually placed that carry important information, for example, personal data, the name of the unit, etc. But, since we are not talking about service uniforms, but about fashionable clothes, the stripes on the front of the jacket can be anything. Usually small images are chosen for this place.

Several small patches grouped on the chest, united by a common theme, look great

On the sleeves

Patches on sleeves are often extremely practical - they reinforce the fabric in places most prone to abrasion - on the elbows, cuffs, etc. They are usually placed symmetrically on the two sleeves, but the images do not have to be the same. Small stripes with paired patterns look best.

Biker patches

One of the largest communities that actively use patches on clothing are bikers. Biker jackets are full of images that can tell a lot about the owner of the motorcycle. In addition to belonging to a particular biker organization, the patches on the jacket can speak of the motorcycle rider's outlook.

How to sew?

It is very easy to attach a patch to a jacket - even if you have very little experience with a needle and thread, the whole work will take no more than 30 minutes.

First, we choose a suitable place for the patch. Then we fix it with double-sided adhesive tape or safety pins - this way the patch will not slip off while we are sewing it on. If you are afraid to poke holes in the patch, you can simply trace the outline around it with a remnant or a washable marker.

Now we take a needle with a thread to match the stripe (or contrasting - as you like) and begin to carefully sew on the patch, folding the thread in half for strength.

At the end of the thread we tie a knot, which we hide under the patch in the first stitch. The best way to sew on the patch is with blind stitches. Try to make the stitches small and not very frequent. Having passed the circle, we make a loop around the last stitch, tighten the knot and hide it next to the first. Now you can cut the thread and admire the work done.

What to wear with?

Jackets with stripes can be worn with a variety of things - it all depends on the cut and style of the jacket and what is shown on the stripes. Almost all of these jackets go well with jeans, T-shirts, sneakers or high boots. Skinny pants or a short skirt will also go well with a jacket decorated with patches.

Modern fashion favors combinations of seemingly incongruous things. Therefore, romantic dresses, sundresses, light blouses and tops can be an excellent accompaniment to a leather or denim jacket with stripes.
