Using a pen for writing is an integral part of everyone's life, especially students and schoolchildren, as well as office workers. Ink stains can be an unpleasant consequence of using a pen, so many people wonder how you can remove an ink stain that is difficult to remove at first glance.

What pens are stained with?

Today there are several varieties of pens with different dyes. The choice of a particular variety depends on the individual preferences of each person:

  • pen attributes for writing are also called ink in another way. Their dye contains water;
  • for a gel pen, manufacturers use a special gel, which is a coloring liquid with a water component;
  • The writing base of the ballpoint pen is ink paste. Oil is used to make the paste.

After analyzing the composition of the dyes, it can be concluded that the same methods are applicable to remove stains from a fountain pen and a gel pen. Ballpoint pen marks are better eaten into the fabric due to the oil component, therefore it will be necessary to deal with them by other methods.

However, having become familiar with the tools suitable for removing ink stains, anyone can cope with these problems without difficulty.

First aid can be given to a thing soiled in ink from a pen with the help of improvised means, many of which can be found at home:

  • any alcohol-containing solutions or pure alcohol can dissolve the trace from the pen.However, after using this product, colored streaks may remain on the fabric or surface. Hydrogen peroxide will help remove them, but it can leave light spots on intensely colored fabrics. Plus, alcohol will only lighten old ink marks, but won't remove them. After cleaning with alcohol, clothes should be washed well, and pieces of furniture should be wiped with a damp cloth;
  • an alcohol composition mixed with acetone copes with the removal of stains of any age much better, but some substances can dissolve from exposure to acetone. Another synthesis of glycerin with alcohol in a 1: 1 ratio will become a faithful assistant in the fight against ink. After using such a solution, it is necessary to thoroughly rinse the area to be cleaned with water;
  • alcohol mixed with vinegar can also remove pen stains. As in most cases, after processing with such a solution, you need to thoroughly rinse the place of contamination with water or wash the thing;
  • no need to rush to throw out sour milk or whey. Stubborn dirt on clothes can be removed by soaking the item in them for a couple of hours. After soaking, gently brush over the ink stain and wash as usual. Furniture should be washed well with a rag;
  • The baking soda, which is always available in the kitchen, can solve the ink problem in a delicate way. Better gentle cleaning can be done with calcined powder. Gruel from soda with water must be carefully applied to the blot, left for a while to react and then washed off with water;
  • lemon can serve not only for gastronomic purposes. It is an excellent stain remover and, when paired with salt, easily removes handle marks. If there is no fresh lemon at hand, then it can be easily replaced with citric acid dissolved in warm water.

How can you quickly remove stains from things?

A nuisance can happen at any time, and an ink stain will appear on the surface of things or furniture. This situation is especially not surprising for families with children, who can do art, anywhere. Let's take a look at the most common surfaces prone to pen stains:

  • do not despair and lose hope to remove the ink stain from the varnished table, chair or school desk. If the pollution is quite old and has eaten into the surface of lacquered furniture, then it is worth resorting to radical measures. The lacquer thinner will help wipe off the ink, but it will also remove the varnish at the spot. When using this method, you should re-walk the varnish over the treated area;
  • it sometimes happens that traces from a fountain pen remain on the inner lining of a bag or backpack. In this case, you can use one of three valid methods. In the first case, hairspray will help, but for this you need to turn out the lining of your carry-on luggage so that the spray does not get on the outer upholstery. Place paper or cloth towels under the lining fabric where it is dirty, spray with varnish, and remove excess with a rag. Then you should walk over the place of pollution with a sponge soaked in water. Repeat the procedure until complete cleansing.

The same manipulations can be done with alcohol or a mixture of dishwashing detergent and powder;

  • often you can accidentally drop a pen on your favorite leather case or eco-leather wallet. Plain tape can be used to remove the stain from the case. To do this, you need to stick a piece of tape on the handwritten place and press it tightly, then pull the tape and carefully remove it. You don't need to take too long so as not to harm things. This method is not suitable for cleaning thin leatherette.If the stain is impressive or does not appear on such a delicate surface, but for example, on a leather ball, then an aqueous solution of soda and alcohol in equal parts or salt with a detergent will come to the rescue;
  • if an ink stain is found on the floor, then don't worry. The easiest way is to remove the marks from the handle from the linoleum. A soapy solution will help, and if it is heavily soiled, you can rub the stain with a varnish remover, an alcohol-containing solution or turpentine;
  • often it is necessary to wash home appliances from ink. From the refrigerator, ink marks can be easily wiped off with nail polish remover and a cotton pad. A fresh stain will be peeled off quickly, but old marks should be actively rubbed. Hairspray is also good. They need to moisten the trace of the paste, then wait about a minute and wipe off the stain with a cotton swab;
  • traces of ink on the interior door can be removed with a cotton swab dipped in an alcohol solution or a damp cloth, a mixture of glycerin and ammonia in equal parts, or vinegar. If these methods do not help, then you can use a melamine sponge;
  • sometimes you have to wipe the marks of the fountain pen off the wall. The easiest way is to clean vinyl or non-woven wallpapers, but you need to be careful with paper ones. An acetone-free nail polish remover, a melamine sponge, an aqueous solution of citric and oxalic acid, ammonia with soda in a 1: 2 ratio, and a mixture of vinegar with potassium permanganate in the company with peroxide will help in the fight against wallpaper patterns. Of the unusual methods, it is worth noting ironing the wallpaper with a warm iron through a paper sheet, using an eraser for ink, bread pulp for fresh traces, cleaning with a white toothpaste and a soft brush, boiled milk;
  • often traces of a pen must be removed from a paper surface - a notebook or textbook, and sometimes a paper lampshade. You can remove the ink stain from the paper in the following way: you need to take a teaspoon of vinegar essence and add a pinch of potassium permanganate to it. The sheet of paper to be cleaned must be placed on top of the blank sheet. Using a thin brush dipped in the solution, you should carefully remove unwanted marks.

The paper at this point will take on a brown tint, which can be easily removed with peroxide. To dry the sheet, you can gently iron it.

Cleaning by material type

The choice of method for removing stains from a pen should directly depend on the type of fabric or fabric. Some of them require a delicate approach, for others, the most aggressive substances are suitable:

  • so, cotton and woolen things are best cleaned of ink traces with lemon juice or acid;
  • if a stain has formed on clothes or an interior item made of genuine leather or a thing that contains leatherette, then ordinary varnish will come to the rescue to fix the hairstyle. The hair product must be sprayed in a sufficient amount onto the stained surface, then wait a few minutes and thoroughly wipe the treated area with a damp cloth. Leather products can be easily cleaned from handle marks using a cream with a greasy structure. It can be either a face cream or a hand and body cream. It must be applied generously to the place of pollution, wait a few minutes and wipe the surface with a dry cloth or cloth;
  • For untreated wood products, you can use baking soda slightly diluted with water. To do this, rub the resulting substance into the problem area, then carefully wipe the treated area with a damp cloth;
  • handle stains can also appear on plastic surfaces such as windowsills. To rid the plastic of contamination, you should take an ordinary match with a head soaked in water, then rub the ink with vigorous movements until it disappears completely. After removing traces, wash the treated area with soapy water;
  • products made of silicone or rubber are quite common today.These materials are used to make cases for phones, kitchen and children's accessories, and shoes. To remove ink marks from objects that do not come into contact with food and small children, you can use chlorine-based cleaners as an aqueous solution or a small amount of bleach applied to the stain with a toothbrush. You can also clean rubber objects with soda gruel applied to the place of contamination. For clear cases, you can use acetone-free nail polish remover.

In addition, white and colorless silicone cases stained in a fountain pen can be left in alcohol solution for a while or gently cleaned with toothpaste and a brush.

Mechanical method

Such attempts to wash the ink involve, in addition to using any means, the application of considerable effort to wipe off the stain. So, you can wipe off ink marks using soda gruel, which you need to rub with a sponge until the traces of the fountain pen disappear completely:

  • citric acid or its diluted in a 1: 1 ratio with water can also be rubbed over the contaminated area with a sponge;
  • a mixture of lemon juice and salt is also an excellent means of mechanical action on the stain;
  • dry mustard should be rubbed into the stain with a damp sponge and left overnight, after which you can start removing the ink;
  • Vinegar slaked baking soda is another way to effectively wipe away fountain pen stains.

Chemical method

In addition to traditional ways to remove a ballpoint pen stain, special cleaning products also help. For example:

  • a special anti-stain soap called "Antipyatin" can help clean fresh traces of the use of a fountain pen from clothes;
  • on snow-white natural fabrics, you can safely remove traces of ink with whiteness and any other bleach for clothes;
  • Many people have an answer to the question of how to wipe the pen - with any stain remover of a well-known brand. Depending on the quality and popularity of the brand, prices for such products can vary greatly.

Recommendations

When choosing any household chemical, it is worth remembering the safety rules, protecting the skin of the hands, eyes and respiratory organs from the effects of its constituent substances. Be sure to use gloves when working with poisonous substances. The same applies to people prone to allergic reactions to non-chemical substances.

A little test should be done before cleaning any surface or fabric from ballpoint marks. To do this, on a less noticeable area, it is worth trying the chosen tool. If, after using it, the appearance of the material does not deteriorate, you can safely proceed with the procedures to remove the stain.

In order not to have to clean clothes and furniture from the handle too often, you just need to be more careful. Hide all writing utensils from small children, do not put the pen in your pocket with the pen down and use high-quality fountain pens.
