Skiing is one of the favorite types of leisure for Russians. Fresh, frosty air, skiing on the track bring a lot of joy and vigor to adults and children. But in order not to darken the holiday with serious injuries, it is necessary to choose the right ski mounts.

Peculiarities

Salomon Nordic System (SNS) Mounts developed in France and manufactured by Salomon. They are designed for use by both professional athletes and first-time skiers.

SNS mounts have their own characteristics.

  1. They are installed on all types of skis with screws, for which you have to drill the ski runners. Only special shoes with SNS soles are suitable for these bindings. Boots with such a sole are produced by well-known manufacturers of sports shoes - Salomon, Atomic, Spine.
  2. The SNS mount has one wide track to keep the boot stable on the ski runners.
  3. For a classic ride, the boot is attached to the ski at one point on the toe of the shoe. For skating, the skier needs a secure hold at two points for stability.

The bindings have a rubber flexor with one hinge, which is necessary so that the leg does not move to the side when moving. For the classics, it is made of soft rubber, for the ridge - from hard. Ski enthusiasts and beginners alike use a combined flexor made of medium-hard rubber.

If the boot is fixed directly to the bindings, then it is just above the ski.

Professional athletes use platforms to increase speed, which, as it were, lengthen the leg, thereby providing a stronger push and faster glide on the track.

Ski carrier designed by the Norwegian company Roteffella under the trademark New Nordic Norm (NNN), currently occupies a leading position in sales.There is no fundamental difference between the systems.

The difference between NNN mounts and SNS is that:

  • are attached to the skis not only with screws, but in most structures using the NIS platform without any drilling, are installed at the factory during production;
  • the fasteners can be moved along the skis forward and backward, while the individual position of the skis in relation to the body is set for faster sliding in the classic course;
  • there are 2 narrow guides located in parallel;
  • boot fixation is shifted under the toes;
  • the platform increases the height of the attachment.

SNS Brand Benefits:

  • the boot is fixed rigidly, which ensures safety on the track;
  • longer service life;
  • good stability of the skier when running.

All fastening parts are made of high quality materials (rubber, plastic and metal).

The negative aspects of using the brand include the fact that there is a small range of boots on sale that are suitable for this attachment. Also, the boot rises above the ski only 2 mm, which increases the athlete's stability, but slows him down a little.

Keeping pace with the times, however, Salomon began releasing platform bindings to increase glide after push. Fasteners with a platform are less dangerous, as the platform will break faster than something will happen to the leg.

Type overview

Bindings for cross-country skis are divided into 2 types, according to the boot fixing mechanism.

  1. Automatic, when, when pressed by the boot, they snap into place, but at the end of a run they open manually. The mount is heavier than the second, due to the automatic latch.
  2. Mechanical, when, when putting on and taking off boots, the mechanism is triggered by pressure from the hand.

The automatic mechanism is in demand among amateur skiers, especially beginners. It can be zipped quickly and effortlessly. The mount has proven itself well on a flat track, with a slow slide. But it can open at any time, especially when snow gets into the castle, which then melts and quickly freezes in the cold.

A mechanical latch, although more expensive than an automatic one, is more reliable and will last a long time. And you can not expect trouble from her at the most inopportune moment, she never freezes. Therefore, only such a mechanism is chosen by skiers involved in professional sports.

SNS mounts are available in 3 varieties:

  • Profil;
  • Pilot;
  • WTR.

Description and characteristics of systems.

  • Profil allows you to ski in all styles of cross-country skiing. So, for the classic move, the attachment to the inscription "Classic" is made on the mount, for the skate move - "Skate", for the mixed move - "Combi". The devices have one guide, they differ only in the rigidity of the elastic band - flexor.
  • Pilot variety specially designed for skating. It has two guides and instead of rubber there is a spring on the flexor, which allows you to push harder and slide along the track for a long time.
  • WTR Profile designed for alpine skiing, it is characterized by the presence of an antifriction plate and a heel that can be opened with a stick and closed with a boot.

The manufacturer also produces fasteners for children's boots, usually in bright colors. In terms of quality, they do not differ from adults, only smaller in size. Flexor elastic band is soft so as not to interfere with the movement of the child's leg.

Installation and removal

Salomon produces skis with pre-made holes for SNS bindings. But there are many unbrilled skis on the market. In stores, they offer to install fasteners for a fee, but you can do it yourself according to the following scheme.

  1. The installation of fasteners begins with finding the center of gravity of the ski runners. To do this, you need to put the ski on a ruler set on an edge, or on a knife blade. In the place where the ski will be parallel to the floor, there is a balance line. True, in the instructions it is recommended to shift this line 1 cm back.
  2. Assemble the bindings, attach them closed to the ski, while aligning the balance line on the ski with the shoe installation line marked on the bindings itself. Use a pen to mark the places where you want to make holes.
  3. With a special drill or a 3.6 mm drill, make holes about 15 mm deep, for children's skis a little more than 8 mm.
  4. After the hole is cleared of sawdust, pour PVA glue and you can screw the mount with a screwdriver. Make sure the screws are securely fastened.
  5. Then the skis should dry for about 11 hours.

So, without any extra money, the skis are ready for walks.

The removal of the SNS system mount must be started from the rear of the mechanism in the following sequence:

  • first remove the plug with a screwdriver;
  • pull out the screws with a screwdriver;
  • remove the bar;
  • use a large screwdriver to press down on the latch located in front of the device;
  • lift it up;
  • unscrew the screw on the front of the panel;
  • remove the cover;
  • remove the remaining screws.

After that, remove the fasteners without damaging the ski.

For beginners and for lovers of walking, the SNS Profil Combi ski mount with an automatic latch is idealbecause they are stable, easy to handle and designed for any riding style. Professional athletes prefer skis with mechanical fasteners because they are reliable.

When choosing a mount, it is better to focus on personal experience and the desire for the ski trail to invigorate and bring only pleasure.
