The peak in popularity of various sequins and shimmering stones came around the 90s. of the past century. At that time, the trend was unusual and bright outfits, large flecks and shiny manicure. Only a few decades have passed and coatings with glitter have come into fashion again.

Peculiarities

Women have been interested in the art of decorating the human body since ancient times. To this day, the fair sex has not lost interest in decor, which manifests itself in applying makeup, wearing jewelry and, of course, in manicure. One of the most stylish solutions for decorating marigolds is considered to be a coating with shimmering sequins, the luxury and expression of which speaks for itself.

Sequins are small circular plates made of synthetic material, they are distinguished by pronounced reflective characteristics. When light hits the sequins, the rays begin to refract - as a result, the plates begin to shine and shine.

The basis for the manufacture of such decorative elements is mica, as well as polyethylene, less often thermoplastic or metallized foil. They can be pronounced or represent the finest shimmery dust.

The advantages of this type of coating are obvious:

  • decor with glitter is highly durable;
  • the effect of a shining iridescence is always in trend, while it suits clothes of any style and color;
  • glitter gel polish allows you to adjust the length and shape of the nail plate, however, in this case, knowledge of a special extension technique is required;
  • materials are available, they are sold in most specialized stores and at the same time have a fairly democratic cost;
  • no need to buy expensive tools to apply a stylish coating;
  • in fact, nail design with glitter is limited only by your imagination.

However, glitter also has disadvantages:

  • the coating with glitter is often not so easy to remove, usually for this purpose the remover is applied to the nail plate and held with effort for several seconds;
  • if you intend to apply a glitter pattern, then you are unlikely to be able to do this without special professional skills;
  • for applying dry glitter, you should purchase a set of applicators, as well as tweezers and sponges;
  • sequins should be properly fixed, otherwise the coating will be very short-lived;
  • the process of applying a shining powder must be kept under control, if you overdo it, then instead of a stylish coating, you will get a voluminous decor that will cling to clothes and hair, which will cause a lot of inconvenience.

Types of sequins

Professionals in nail decor are well aware that sequins can vary in size - from the minimum, which are called "shimmer" to the well-known glitter, whose particles are much larger. The plates are triangular in shape, sometimes square, diamond-shaped or hexagonal, however, some manufacturers produce other types of glitter.

Glitter in the form of release can be dry or wet. The first ones are realized in plastic or glass containers of a small size in the form of a powder, but the wet ones are placed in a certain composition, for example, in a transparent or decorative varnish, which greatly simplifies their application to the nail plate.

The main varieties of sequins produced by modern manufacturers are the following.

  • Glitter dust - in its structure, it is similar to acrylic pollen and is an ultra-fine shimmering plate that should be literally rubbed into the applied coating. A manicure with a similar varnish looks solemn, but at the same time very discreet, so it can be done both for work and for a friendly party.
  • Sand - another type of dry glitter, its particle size is larger than pollen, but much smaller than rhinestones.
  • Rhinestones - This is the most popular material in nail decor, which has been in trend for many years, both in everyday life and for evening bows.
  • Openwork sequins plates are called, which are made in a curly carved form, they can look like signs of the zodiac, hearts, stars, rhombuses or flowers. A separate variety is holographic fibers for creating stylish gradient stretch marks.

Which type of sequins to choose depends only on personal preferences. Some people prefer dry material, considering it the most convenient and practical - it spreads easily over the coating, allowing you to adjust the density of application and filling. At the same time, others opt for liquid formulations, since such decor is much faster to make.

Fashion trends

Basic glitter nail design trends can be categorized according to several basic methods of decoration.

  • The simplest option is to cover the entire nail with glitter, usually such a manicure involves staining only one or two fingers with glitter, while all the rest are painted with ordinary varnish.
  • Marigolds look very stylish when only their individual parts are covered with rhinestones and sequins, for example, the tip of a marigold or its lunula; besides, the pictures made with glitter are very beautiful and aesthetic.
  • On short nails, a manicure with luxurious rhinestones, for example, from Swarovski, is won. In order for such a design to be harmonious, it is worth choosing elements of small diameter, large rhinestones in nail art speak of a lack of taste and aesthetics in creating your own image.
  • For many years, it has invariably been at the top of the stylish ombre trends. At the peak of popularity in the current season, applying glitter to the very tips of the nails, while the shade of the glitter should certainly be a couple of tones lighter or, conversely, darker than the base, while the density of such a coating should vary along the gradient.
  • The always fashionable jacket is often made with sequins, as a rule, they are applied to the overgrown part of the marigold, while variations with a tinge of "smile" are only welcome.
  • Ornaments and various patterns are often made with glitter, while both whole pictures are formed from glitter, and shimmering accents are placed.
  • In especially solemn cases, the entire marigold is covered with sparkles, while often combining several shades, either similar in color, or, on the contrary, contrasting.
  • Over the course of several seasons, women of fashion have used a technique in which the base of the nail plate is covered with glitter, and the shape of such a decor can vary: in most cases, a month-shaped bend in the cuticle area is performed or a semi-oval towards the outer edge.
  • Glitter is often applied diagonally, here both the lower fragment and the upper one can be covered with glitter, and sometimes a simple strip is applied with glitter.
  • Dot coating is considered very fashionable, stylish polka dots not so long ago switched from clothes to nails, at the same time, a base of absolutely any color can be used, and sequins are selected in a different tone.
  • But where you can show your imagination - this is an assorted-style coating. At the same time, a wide variety of decors, geometric shapes and abstract ornaments using glitter are applied to the nail plates, the most important thing is to accurately observe the general style.

As for shades that combine well with sequins, there are no restrictions here.

  • Light - looks very gentle, feminine and romantic in combination with shimmering dust on the tips of the nails. The most expressive technique is considered to be a jacket with glitter; this idea is optimal for those women who are tired of traditional classic decors.

For many years, the jacket does not give up its leading position - it simply changes its appearance, where the laconicism of white is replaced by the radiance of shine.

  • Nude Is a natural manicure that never loses its relevance. The decor is quite simple: the nails are covered with a transparent base, and small sparkles are placed on it in a chaotic manner. Such a coating looks unusual, but always chic and expensive. Nude tones include light beige, milky, creamy, as well as powdery colors.
  • Dark color with sequins looks truly luxurious, this is a suitable option for sexy and femme fatale, and nowadays dark is as versatile as light: it can be used both in the office and at a gala event.

Burgundy, black, as well as purple and brown shades are very stylishly combined with glitter; this technique is especially good on shortened marigolds.

  • Bright colors optimal for spring-summer manicure. All shades of yellow, orange, mint or turquoise - you can make the most daring experiments, stretch the shades using the ombre technique or choose matte colors, and the shine will give them even more playfulness and juiciness.
  • Red manicure has remained in trend for many decades, and how can it go out of fashion if the cosmetic industry offers the widest choice of shades: coral, and cherry, and burgundy. Contrast sequins are well combined with such tones, which can emphasize the courage and sexuality of a lady.
  • It looks sophisticated and romantic pink with glitter on the nails of young girls. This is a truly "girlish" decor, which presents a great variety of all kinds of combinations. For example, you can draw flickering white lines across the plate, or you can decorate the tip of the nail with sparkles of dark lilac or purple.
  • But perhaps it goes best with sequins. ultramarine and blue color - this is a real find for women of fashion who are accustomed to swimming in public attention. Intense pigment with shimmering sheen in white, green or red creates unique decors and makes a lasting impression on those around you.
  • Grey colour judging by the reviews, it seems to many to be simple, but in combination with blue or silver sparkles, he begins to play with new colors that are harmoniously combined with various images of the girl.

How to do a manicure yourself?

If the application of ordinary shiny varnish is absolutely no difficulty, since it is easy to use, then fixing dry gloss at home is much more difficult.

There are several basic methods for attaching dry glitter to your nails, you can use one of them.

With a dry brush

To do this, you can take even the simplest stationery brush, which is designed for watercolors.

To begin with, they do an edged or hardware manicure here: they clean the nails from the remnants of the decorative coating, cut or push back the cuticle and keratinized nail folds. Prepared nails are painted with varnish, and then gloss is applied to each of them, paying special attention to each nail in turn. To do this, the brush is dipped into a container with glitter: in this case, too much flickering dust can stick, then you need to gently tap it with your finger, and then blow on the nail. A jet of air will remove excess gloss. Fix such a cover with a special top.

Using a nail polish brush

Everything is elementary here: you need to dip the brush into a tube and collect the required amount of varnish, then quickly lower it into glitter and apply the composition to the nail plate. Then you just have to wait until the varnish has completely hardened and the stylish manicure is ready.

Application on clear varnish

Colored varnish is put on the processed nails, then a paintbrush is dipped into a transparent one and some separate part of the nail plate is covered with it. After that, you need to take a dry brush, scoop up the glitter and sprinkle from the brush onto a fresh, colorless coating. The excess amount is blown off and fixed with a fixer.

  • For larger sequins and rhinestones, it is better to cover by attachment. Previously, the nails are covered with any basic shade, then you need to pick up each strass with a toothpick and fix it on the nail. The decorated surface is covered with a transparent compound and waiting for solidification.
  • To depict a reverse jacket with glitters, you need to cover the nails with any base shade and wait until the varnish completely hardens. After that, you should take a little bit of colorless varnish and paint a crescent moon on the lunula with a thin brush, then sprinkle glitter on the surface of the nail and carefully blow off all excess. You can complete this manicure by applying a top.
  • The "honeycomb" -style coating for long nails looks very non-trivial; rather large glitter in the form of hexagons is required for it. To begin with, the nails are painted with base varnish, and then the sequins are glued with a needle so that they are located one to one. This is quite a meticulous work, however, the result is a perfect shimmery surface, which you just need to cover with a fixer - otherwise large sequins will cling to your hair and clothes.

It is not necessary to paint the entire nail plate or only a part of it with glitter: you can draw thin strips on the surface with a brush for drawing, the lines can be longitudinal, transverse or diagonal. Usually they are applied with a transparent varnish, and then the entire surface is covered with glitter. Any other drawings - monograms or hearts - are made in the same technique.
