Today, rubbing is one of the most demanded elements of nail decor in nail art. However, until now, few people know how to use it correctly in order to achieve the desired result. The material of our article will acquaint the reader with the basic nuances of working with rubbing and tell you how to avoid common mistakes.

What it is?

Rub-in is a special manicure powder with a fine particle fraction. Depending on the variety, it can be compared to powder or even loose eyeshadow. Someone calls it dust. The powder can have different pigmentation. When applied to the surface of the nail, it is able to give the coating a different effect, including all kinds of overflows.

This "pollen" got its name from the way of working with it: it is rubbed into the painted nail after a little drying of the coating in a special drying lamp. The powder is made of polyester, it is packed in small jars, supplemented for the convenience of work with a special applicator. Loose pigment can have a different fraction of particles, it creates a different effect on light and dark colors of the coating. At the same time, the powder can easily imitate mother-of-pearl, matte the work surface or make it velvety.

Peculiarities

Rub-in is notable for the fact that in a short time it can create an even and high-quality coating, which many pearlescent and mirror-textured varnishes cannot cope with. It is characterized by durability, increases the wear of the manicure. In addition, the powder is resistant to UV rays and does not fade under the sun. This allows the design to look fresh all the time, as if it had just been done.

An important point is the fact that water does not harm such a coating. The powder itself is harmless to the skin of the hands, it does not irritate it even in the place of the removed cuticle. To date, no cases of detecting an allergic reaction of clients to rubbing have been registered. It is also important to consider that absolutely any pigmented varnish from matte and glossy varieties is suitable for working with this material.

Even one powder can be used for varnishes available at home. In addition, simplicity of work will be a weighty argument: usually the process of work takes less than one minute.

The disadvantage is the fact that you can buy a decorative product for decorating nails only in a specialized store or on the Internet. Someone considers a small amount of powder to be a minus. However, powder is very economical, although we are used to the fact that there should be a lot of good things. Another nuance is the need for some practice, without which you can make mistakes in the work that affect the quality of the manicure.

Varieties

Manicure dust can be very diverse. For example, today, in addition to the mirror, which is already familiar to everyone, it can be holographic and even pearl. Its variants with the effect of glass and chameleon are original. Few people know, but pigments can be combined with each other, thereby obtaining new effects or undertones.

Mirrored rubbing was the first, the effect of metal or chrome was immediately appreciated by modern women of fashion. However, such a powder needed a black substrate, otherwise the mirror effect was difficult to achieve. On light colors of varnish, it looked completely different, and it was rubbed into such substrates not so intensively.

Pearl dust is in trend today. Such a powder literally envelops the nails with a weightless veil with mother-of-pearl. Moreover, it looks great not only on pigments, but can also be used for a jacket with a transparent coating instead of a background pigment. The effect on a transparent background is special, due to which even a simple manicure looks status and elegant.

Pearl powder is used for light, nude and dark tones. However, this variety cannot convey the overflow of tone. That is why brands produce so-called chameleon pigments. In fact, such a manicure powder has an overflow of two tones. They replace each other if you look at the nails from different angles.

It is this category of rubbing that is considered one of the most fashionable today. It has overgrown with its own varieties and has its own range of overflows. For example, today you can buy chameleon products such as beetle, unicorn, aurora, prism, flakes. Each species has its own characteristics.

A finer grinding of the May beetle, it is used only on a dark or black substrate. The unicorn is characterized by a rainbow overflow, such a powder has a very fine fraction of particles of an almost transparent shimmer. On a light background, it will seem delicate, on a dark background it can give off gold. Sometimes this kind of master is called a "mermaid".

Aurora allows you to recreate the effect of the northern lights, it is characterized by a shimmering effect. By the way, it can create a beetle effect if used on a dark substrate. Moreover, the price of such a powder is noticeably less than an elite powder. The prism is nothing more than a variant of the holographic type. It is able to recreate a coating that resembles the overflow of gasoline in water.

However, this product, unlike others, is versatile, since it can be used on a different substrate color. Other options include powder flakes. It is used in two ways, on which the effect will depend. This powder is also versatile and suitable for different varnish colors.

Use cases

Nail polish is used in different ways, depending on its type. For example, if these are flakes, they can not only be rubbed into the entire surface of the nail, but also laid out one by one, making up some kind of pattern or, as an option, imitating a kind of gradient. In addition, the powder can be rubbed into all nails or used only for accents.

For example, it is an excellent substitute for a shimmery hybrid coating when applied over a white gel polish. At the same time, a short rubbing in will create the effect of a light veil, and therefore the manicure will not look vulgar. If you don't feel like decorating all your nails with powder, you can use it to highlight accents. In this case, it can look especially beautiful on a dark basis. Today, the powder is even used to partially highlight the accent nail. In this way, they create a gradient, decorate the smile of a traditional or inverted jacket.

In this case, you can use powder:

  • in the form of colored or monochromatic sequins on the base varnish;
  • gold or silver chrome on black lacquer;
  • any effect for further decor.

How to apply the rub in correctly?

As for decorating the coating with the applied powder, then this option of application opens up a lot of opportunities for the flight of creative thought. If in the simplest version it can be a contour stroke, then more professional craftsmen paint over the rub in with gel polish, and then sprinkle it with acrylic sand or so-called sugar. After removing the excess and drying in a special lamp, a voluminous pattern is obtained on the accent nail, from under which the background with rubbing peeps out.

It should be noted right away that rubbing is often applied to hybrid varnish or gel varnish. Such a coating will not only be the best base: the material stretches perfectly along the nail and does not have bald spots, like ordinary varnish coatings. According to the rules, rubbing should be used on a not completely dry layer of a drying coating. However, you can also rub it into a gel surface that has not yet been in a drying lamp.

Preparing nails

It is important to understand that no experiments with a different substrate material will give the desired result, since it is precisely two methods that are the foundation of all work. It is necessary to observe a simple technology, which can be considered as the method of applying rubbing on gel polish. Before covering the nails with anything, a manicure is performed, removing the cuticle and pterygium growing into the nail. In order not to harm the skin, they try to use special preparations for the keratinized epithelium. All unnecessary can be removed not with metal tools, but with the same orange stick. It is undesirable to soak your hands, as well as to steam them before processing and staining nails. In the process of preparation, the nail plates are subject to mandatory grinding. However, only gloss must be removed from them, since excessive polishing will thin the nails, thereby causing them to be fragile and fragile manicure.

Dyeing

After the nails are in order, they begin to apply the base material. It is transparent and slightly liquid, and therefore it is better to apply it in a thin layer. So it will not flow outside the nail, and it will hold better, providing excellent adhesion to the nail. Be sure to walk along the end of the nail, sealing it. Any hack will cause the coating to quickly chip. After the base is applied, it is dried in a lamp, and then they begin to paint the nail with the pigment chosen for the nails. It is advisable to use a varnish with good pigmentation in work. This will apply it in one coat. Instead of varnish, you can use a gel, and it is usually applied in one layer.

Rubbing

While the varnish is not completely dry, glitter is taken from a jar onto the applicator with a foam rubber head and rubbed into the nail cover. Someone does not use the applicator, but performs this process with a brush, other masters prefer to work with a finger at all.Usually the powder is rubbed in until its layer becomes dense and completely covers the original pigment of the varnish. Since during work it is impossible to avoid spraying the working area, the table should be protected from pollen in advance by placing a regular sheet of paper or oilcloth.

When the desired result is achieved, the nails are dried in a lamp. The drying time may be slightly longer to help the coating dry better. It may also depend on the type of varnish available and the lamp itself. After the rub in with varnish has dried, it remains to seal it with a layer of glossy top, dry it and remove residual stickiness, having waited about 30 seconds after drying. The mirror effect is achieved by rubbing the powder into the gel or a non-sticky finish. Adhesion will be better if the powder is applied to the gel without a sticky surface. Before using the powder, you need to dry your nail thoroughly. Otherwise, the mirror effect may not work, and the friable powder will roll into grains. To prevent this, you can dry the base twice.

If there is no gel polish, rub in on a regular varnish. In this case, the coating layer should be as thin as possible. The surface must be dry but not completely cured. The pollen is generously sprinkled on the nail and rubbed in until the desired result is achieved. The coating should look even and smooth. After that, the remains of the powder product are removed from it and, for strength, they are covered with transparent varnish on top. It is advisable not to wet your hands for the first two to three hours after the manicure.

Common mistakes

Unfortunately, the end result does not always turn out the way it was intended. And there may be several reasons. For example, a matte top cannot be used to seal a design. It is able to absorb the shine and deprive the nail of its special effect.

In addition, in the process of work, you cannot do without the use of a special silicone coating, which covers the skin around the nail. It quickly hardens, at the end of rubbing it is removed, thereby the powder will not get on the skin, which will allow the manicure to look aesthetically pleasing. The use of silicone protection will eliminate the need to use a cotton swab and sticks to remove excess rubbing.

You also need to know that rubbing on the nails does not hold for other reasons. For example, if it immediately took on spots, it is better to redo the design again. Ideally, the layer should immediately be even and beautiful. It is important to keep in mind that the powder is of different sizes. It is preferable to design a design using a product marked 1 or 2. If it does not hold well, it means that the drying time has not been kept or it is not enough.

Powder with a larger fraction dries faster, but falls on the surface of the nail worse. If it initially does not give the desired result, you will have to choose a finer-fraction product. When the pollen does not want to stick to the surface of the substrate at all, this indicates a poor sticky layer of gel polish. In addition, the stages of drying cannot be ignored, because if it is insufficient, the glitter can simply roll off, following the brush with the top.

In order for the coating to look more neat, when applying gel polish for rubbing in, it is worth leaving half a millimeter from the base of the plate and around the edges. The powder will adhere to the base more evenly, it will not protrude beyond the contours. If it seems that the rub in is unreliable, you can apply a base coat over it to increase strength, and after that, the finish. Of course, the overall thickness will increase, but the strength will also increase. In order not to overdo it with thickness, apply both base and top in thin layers.
