The sofa is perhaps the most popular and favorite piece of upholstered furniture. In a sense, it is versatile: in its normal state it is a place for a comfortable sitting, and when unfolded it is a comfortable bed. Today's market offers a huge selection of a wide variety of sofas. In this article we will talk about "Eurobooks" with armrests - one of the most common types of sofas.

Peculiarities

Strictly speaking, "Eurobook" is the name of the transformation mechanism that provides a change in the states of the sofa (from unfolded to folded, and vice versa). It is very simple: to unfold the sofa, you just need to push the lower panel (seat) forward, and put the backrest in the vacant space. If ordinary sofas have a one-sided back (that is, soft on one side), then Eurobooks have a two-sided back - when it is lowered into a sleeping position, the back side turns out to be on top.

As with any item, "Eurobooks" with armrests have their advantages and disadvantages. The advantages of this type of furniture include:

  • ease of use - both a teenager and an elderly person can fold and unfold the sofa;
  • comfort;
  • the presence of a built-in drawer into which you can remove linen, pillows, etc.;
  • the ability to withstand increased loads;
  • durability;
  • variety of models.

Of course, there were some drawbacks:

  • the floor covering could be damaged when the seat is extended;
  • a noticeable depression at the junction of the panels can cause discomfort during sleep;
  • the service life strongly depends on the quality of the materials used in the construction.

Eurobook sofas are distinguished by several parameters.

  • By form. There are straight (simple), angular and U-shaped.
  • According to the number of seats. Straight lines can be two- and three-seater, and U-shaped and angular ones - multi-seater.
  • By the presence and number of armrests. There are models without armrests (we will not dwell in detail), with one or two armrests.
  • By the number of sections - two- and three-section. The two-piece product consists of a frame and two panels: a seat and a backrest. In the second case, an additional section is added to the structure, which provides a greater width in the unfolded state.
  • By the presence of spring blocks: spring and springless. The first type is subdivided into two more: with dependent (bonnel) and independent springs. In the first case, the springs in the block are fixed in a bundle with each other. The term of comfortable use of such a sofa is no more than 9-10 years, but its wide prevalence and popularity is ensured by a rather low cost. In a sofa with independent springs, each metal spiral is covered with its own cover and is not connected with its "neighbors". Such a construction, naturally, is more expensive than the bonnel type, but it will last much longer - about 15 years.

The springless sections are filled with elastic and soft filling, which provides comfort when sitting and sleeping. Three types of fillers are used: foam rubber, polyurethane foam and latex... The cheapest and most fragile material is foam rubber - it quickly loses its shape, squeezes and crumbles. The polyurethane foam filler will last much longer, it keeps its shape perfectly, has a good density, but there is one caveat - sofas with such filling are quite tough, and it is better to lay a mattress for a comfortable sleep. Latex is the most expensive, but it will give you both a comfortable seat and a pleasant sleep.

A separate line is sofas with orthopedic mattresses - moderately hard (useful for the spine), moderately soft - for excellent relaxation.

  • By the presence of a box for linen. In the vast majority of models, the design provides for a box located in the frame of the sofa under the seating panel. This is where you can store bedding sets, small duvets or pillows.
  • By frame material. The basis of the sofa can be presented in three versions: on a metal frame, from high-strength wood or chipboard (MDF). Products with a metal frame are considered the most durable and durable. Wooden ones are the safest from an environmental point of view, usually children's options are produced with a wooden frame. The most affordable and common type is the chipboard frame.

It is less durable than the first two types, but greatly benefits in price.

  • For upholstery material. For the cover, dense textile fabrics, leather and its substitutes can be used, as well as the so-called anti-vandal materials: flock, microfiber, scotchguard.
  • By size. There are narrow (guest) sofas, wide (sleeping), children's, etc.

How to choose?

First of all, you should compare the dimensions of the proposed purchase and the dimensions of the room in which you want to place the sofa. Agree, it is a shame and annoyance to find that such an expensive purchase does not fit in the room or leaves too little free space.

Pay attention to the material of the frame and its thickness. If you are looking for a budget option, look for sofas from MD (chipboard). But it should be noted that thin sheets of plywood or chipboard used as the bottom will not last long, especially under heavy loads. In addition, they absorb moisture too well (if the protective layer is broken) and, as a result, swell and deform. Wooden options are usually covered with a special varnish to prevent such situations, and metal options are, of course, in the first place in terms of resistance to deformation and strength.

Do not forget about the quality of the upholstery. If you have pets (cat or dog), choose products with a vandal-proof cover. Also, do not buy a sofa that will be discordant with the color scheme of the room.

If you are going to use the Eurobook as a permanent sleeping place, when selecting, take into account the number and complexion of the people who will rest on it.

For a couple, you need to look for a wider sofa than for one.
