It is far from always that folding sofas have mattresses that would meet all the requirements of the buyer. As a rule, if a person buys a sofa for the purpose of a permanent bed, then an additional mattress is needed. To get maximum comfort during rest and sleep, you should choose a product responsibly. For this, it is advisable to study in advance all the features, sizes and types of existing mattresses.

Peculiarities

Depending on the transformation mechanism of the sofa, it is necessary to select the appropriate mattress. For example, a model for an accordion sofa based on a metal structure differs from a model for a reclining sofa only in size.

A properly selected mattress for a folding sofa with an accordion system has the following distinctive features:

  • restores shape and levels the surface immediately after removing the load;
  • joints and irregularities are completely smoothed;
  • rigidity varies depending on the load, which significantly increases the service life of the sofa itself;
  • full orthopedic effect allows you to create the necessary conditions for healthy sleep.

What are they?

To choose the right model, first of all, you need to decide on the purpose of the mattress. Manufacturers offer several modifications, each of which has its own parameters and characteristics.

The main types of mattresses for an accordion sofa are as follows.

Inflatable

The main advantage of these models is their low price. They are not designed for extended sleep due to their uncomfortable shape.

Spring loaded

There are two types of this type of mattress: with independent springs and dependent blocks. In the first case, each element is placed in its own compartment, therefore, when one part is deformed, the adjacent spring remains in its original state. In the second type, the springs are interconnected.

Orthopedic

All models of this type provide a comfortable position for a person during sleep. Some orthopedic models belong to the class of anatomical mattresses. Due to the special design and specific properties of the filler, during use, they take the shape of the human body.

Springless

All products of this type are made of special materials, stacked in several layers. Used as a filler latex, coir and other similar materials.

Topper

This type of mattress is considered the best option for an accordion sofa. Thanks to the small thickness and variety of sizes, you can find the perfect option for your sofa. There are no springs in the topper, and modern materials are used as a filler.

All of these types of mattresses are divided into 2 large groups:

  • whole;
  • folding.

The first option has no folds, so it is smoother and more comfortable. They are used if after sleep it does not need to be removed from the sofa.

Types of fillers

Manufacturers use several basic types of mattress fillers. Each of them has its own characteristics and distinctive features.

Polyurethane foam

It has the best thermal conductivity and water absorption, while its price is one of the lowest. Material application absolutely safe for children and adults.

However, the disadvantage of polyurethane foam is its rapid caking and subsidence during operation. With active use, the material loses its properties for a short time, after which it cannot be used for a full night's sleep.

Structofiber

The basis of the material is polyester fibers. Most often they are used as a filler for mattresses for sofas of the "book" system. Has increased elasticity and thermal conductivity necessary for comfortable sensations. To improve the properties of the soft filler, struttofiber is mixed with cotton or other materials of natural origin.

Memoriform

Its distinctive feature is the ability to fix a given shape for a while, while the material does not create an unpleasant pushing effect. Memoroforms have similar properties due to their porous structure.

Sleeping on a mattress with such a filler will be as comfortable as possible for a person of any build.

Coconut coir

The material consists almost entirely of fibers derived from coconut. Distinctive features of coconut coir: natural origin, environmental friendliness, excellent bactericidal properties, durability. Many manufacturers use coconut coir as a filler for accordion sofas. The only drawback of this material is its increased rigidity.

Latex

It is obtained by foaming the sap from the trunks of a rubber tree. Due to its structure, it provides full air permeability, which makes it completely safe to use. The material does not cause allergic reactions, is environmentally friendly and provides excellent heat dissipation.

Dimensions (edit)

For comfortable use of the mattress, it must be selected in accordance with the configuration and dimensions of the sofa. For models of the "accordion" system, thin mattresses, which are easy to fold and put away for storage, are better suited. Optimal mattress parameters:

  • thickness varies between 2-9 cm;
  • standard mattress lengths - 160, 190 or 200 cm;
  • the width of the standard model is 90-100 cm.

The most common size of a mattress is 90x190 cm. For compact models of sofas, the best option would be a mattress 160x190 or 140x190. No more than one person can comfortably fit on such a sofa.The maximum width of one-and-a-half sofas is 155 cm and the length is 200 cm. Two-section models with large dimensions are equipped with mattresses of the following sizes:

  • 140x200 cm;
  • 180 by 200 cm.

How to choose?

There are the following guidelines for choosing the right mattress.

  • You need to choose a model, based on the elasticity and density of the filler... Too soft a mattress has a negative effect on the spine, and an overly hard mattress will not provide comfortable rest and sleep.
  • If the mattress is removed during the day, then the filler must retain its shape and properties after rolling.
  • When choosing a product, many buyers are primarily guided by the cost. In cheap models, materials of lower quality are used, which do not provide comfort and wear out quickly with constant use.
