Not every living room has a semicircular sofa, which is why it is so attractive. And not in any environment, it will look organic. It requires a spacious room and furnishings that require flowing lines. This article is devoted to an overview of the types, features, and placement of the radius structure in the interior.

Peculiarities

A semicircular sofa in itself is already special, it is always dominant, therefore it is often exhibited in the center of the room. This design is intended for a large space, although products are also produced for compact apartments, but their showiness is incomparable with the luxurious multi-meter radius model.

In a room with semicircular furniture, it is better to remove stools and chairs.

The size of a large sofa is enough to accommodate a whole company, and additional chairs will distract and underestimate the significance of the structure.

Furniture of this type can be monolithic, modular or have a sleeping place. The third type of product is transformed into a beautiful soft circle, increasing 2 times. This circumstance should be taken into account when choosing a place for a sofa.

The advantages of semicircular models lie in their fascinating, distinctive appearance and good storage capacity. Ease of communication for a large company is ensured by the fact that everyone present is in equal conditions and can see everyone that cannot be achieved from straight sofas.

Species overview

It would seem what variety an ordinary semicircle can afford, but it turns out - not small. The sofa is presented as a folding (sofa bed), corner (with a rounded corner), park made of wooden planks.It can be with a back, on legs, with a table and ottomans included in the construction of semicircular upholstered furniture.

Monolithic

The monolithic version has a solid base on which soft elements are attached, and they can be represented by connected segments. This type of sofa is more reliable, durable and solid. It looks expensive and respectable... Folding models with a berth are more stable and comfortable than modular ones. Monolithic products are designed for a large room and play a dominant role in the interior.

Their significance can be assessed by examples.

  • Radial sofa on a monolithic base in a classic brown interior.
  • Paired models for the living room with two tables.
  • Island accent sofa.
  • Soft set of monolithic type made in Italy.

Modular

The base and soft filling of such models are divided into sections. When put together, they form a clear semicircle. To change the interior, it is enough to disassemble the sofa into segments and arrange them at your discretion. The system of modules, in addition to mini-sofas, armchairs and poufs, can include tables or shelves. When assembled, all this forms a large functional structure, on which many guests can be seated and have a pleasant evening.

Such sofas are purchased with a different number of sections, it all depends on the place in the room that is allocated to him. Later, if you wish, it is quite possible to buy the missing elements in addition.

Examples of sectional sofas.

  • Modular models with deep yellow corner shelves. Each section has its own personal seat in the form of a cozy armchair.
  • Coral sofa makes up a set of combined armchairs with individual semicircular backs.
  • Model "Monte Cristo" consists of four unusual modules. Individually, each of them has an indefinite shape.
  • Extravagant sofa, the design of which seems to have been spied on by sea stones.

Transformers

Some radius sofas can be folded out to form a sleeping place. At the same time, they double in size and look like a regular circle. Modular designs fold like a jigsaw puzzle, creating a soft round bed. There are models with a retractable or folding mechanism.

  • Two radius sofas the easiest way to combine into a round bed.
  • The seat is folded in half... The frame rolls out from under the sofa, the upper semicircle of the seat is laid on it, forming a full circle. Such products can be equipped with one or two linen boxes.
  • Modular addition of segments.
  • Attached additional section.

Materials and design

The sofa consists of a frame, filler and upholstery. These are different materials, so they should be considered separately. Let's start with the upholstery fabric. It is a decorative completion of the entire structure, but the strength and durability of the product depends on its characteristics. Many types of modern textiles are treated with special impregnations, which enable the surface to repel water, dirt and prevent bacteria from developing.

Leather

For the upholstery of sofas, natural leather is used, its substitute and eco-leather. The surface looks rich and respectable, so it is not covered. Natural leather will require special care. It is much easier to monitor the condition and appearance of the substitute, and it costs much less, but having made a choice in his favor, you can forget about prestige.

Jacquard

Beautiful thin lightweight fabric with a complex pattern. It can be matte or with an attractive sheen. Various threads are involved in its creation: wool, silk, cotton, linen, synthetics.

Velours

The fabric is soft and pleasant to the touch, it is confused with velvet, but unlike it, it has a shorter nap and is cheaper. It is a synthetic material with the addition of wool and cotton threads. It is not difficult to care for velor, it is absolutely harmless.

Matting

The fabric with a characteristic weave looks rustic, but gives the impression of a homespun cloth, therefore it is often used in all directions of country (rustic, chalet, Scandinavian, Provence), as well as in ethnic and eco-style. The mat is easy to hook and pull on and is therefore not recommended for families with pets.

Flock

Like velor, it has a pleasant velvety texture. It is a strong and durable material that is not afraid of animal claws. Flock is environmentally friendly, it is used to create children's models. Its disadvantages include the ability to absorb foreign odors, so it is not suitable for kitchens.

Frame

The frame is the basis of the sofa; reliability, durability of the structure, as well as the weight that it can withstand, depends on its quality and technical characteristics. The material for the frame is chosen as follows.

Wood

The wooden frame is durable, furniture with it can serve for several generations. It is important that it is made from hardwoods - cedar, larch, oak, plum, walnut. The material is environmentally friendly and reliable, but it significantly increases the cost of the sofa.

Chipboard

Chipboards can also withstand sufficient stress. This is a budget material, they resort to it if they want to produce a product that is affordable. Chipboard is inferior to wood in durability, it cannot be called environmentally friendly. The shavings are impregnated with an adhesive base, which releases toxic substances when the ambient temperature rises.

Furniture made from chipboard is not recommended for children's rooms.

MDF

Fiber boards are made from smaller segments, they do not contain harmful impregnations, they are durable, and have a dense base on which embossing can be done. Furniture made of MDF looks more solid than chipboard, but it also costs a little more.

Multi-layer plywood

Consists of many layers of veneer glued together. Unlike the previous three materials, plywood is lightweight. It does not deform, it is used in the creation of frames and linen boxes.

Filler

The service life of the sofa, its convenience and its orthopedic capabilities depend on the filler. Mattresses and pillows contain different materials: polyurethane foam, latex, foam rubber, holofiber, synthetic winterizer, komfortl and so on. But most models are filled with one of three components:

  • polyurethane foam is soft and durable;
  • the spring block is reliable;
  • The combined structure of fillers is different, its types affect the cost and the orthopedic component of the product.

Design

Semicircular sofas have a beautiful and varied appearance, well-designed by designers. Their diversity lies not only in the configuration of backs, armrests or their absence, they are complemented by practical extravagant elements - unusual tables, stands, shelves, lamps, which may consist of natural material. To be convinced of this, it is enough to consider examples of design solutions.

  • Spectacular rattan furniture for outdoor use.
  • The section without a pillow serves as a table; different types of leather are used in the model.
  • Solution with functional shelves behind the back of the sofa.
  • Solution with decorative shelves above the back of the product.

Dimensions (edit)

Radial furniture is not suitable for small apartments, it is impossible to place it in the center. If you put a semicircular sofa against a wall or in a corner, it makes the partial space around it unclaimed and useless, and in small rooms every centimeter is important.

A radial product can organically accept a small room with a bay window, in which case the sofa will ideally take its place without losing the territory. The size of such a model should correspond to the bay window.

In order for the parameters to match, they resort to custom-made options or modular, purchasing the required number of sections.

Medium-sized items are 2.5 m in diameter.The size of a large sofa will depend on the room's capabilities. In free space, the radius model looks great, it seems light, extravagant and unusual.

How to post?

          Rounded sofas, devoid of straight lines and angles, lend softness to the interior, they attract the eye and claim to be perfect. Such furniture usually occupies the center of the room, and the rest of the furniture is built according to its rules:

          • large semicircular sofas are poorly combined with cabinet furniture, its quantity should be minimized;
          • radius models form a recreation area, can receive a large number of guests and are dominant in the interior;
          • in support of the rounded sofa, most of the surrounding things are rounded: coffee tables, lamps, pedestals, columns, mirrors;
          • a round carpet, as it were, draws a semicircle of upholstered furniture and contributes to the atmosphere of comfort and positiveness;
          • the TV or fireplace must be in sight of the person sitting on the couch;
          • in large non-standard rooms with complex geometry, radius sofas help out, forming islands for rest and relaxation;
          • semicircular upholstered furniture is simply created to be placed near bay windows;
          • if in a small room the radius model steals space, then in a large one, on the contrary, fills and organizes it.

          Beautiful examples in the interior

          Radial upholstered furniture has an impeccable look. Consider the most beautiful interiors.

          • An island of comfort against the backdrop of an urban landscape.
          • The entire interior supports the unusual shape of the sofa: an armchair, a decorated wall and floor pattern.
          • Unity with nature is emphasized not only by photo wallpaper and animal skin on the floor, but also by sofa modules of natural irregular shapes, as well as natural shades.
          • White interiors look immaculate.
          • Radial sofas are often equipped with other types of furniture that allow you to create a functional comfortable seating area.
          • Cozy corner by the TV.
          • Two leather sofas create a contrasting integration of the interior.
          • Radial sofas in the café form privacy zones.
          • A pompous sofa with a two-level backrest and an abundance of pillows.

          Radial sofas are suitable for people with a non-trivial outlook on life, capable of surprising and delighting others with their impressive choice.
