Large sofas should only be used in spacious rooms with sufficient space. In small apartments, they can take up all the free space, depriving residents of the opportunity to move around normally.

If you decide to put a large sofa 200x200 cm in the hall, you will have to get rid of unnecessary furniture and small items. But you will have the opportunity to relax in comfort.

Peculiarities

The sofas, on which you can sleep comfortably (angular and straight), are also suitable for relaxation. They have a lot of advantages, namely:

  • even the largest of the sofas will take up much less space than a sofa with two armchairs would take;
  • most models are universal, suitable for any type of room;
  • rare of the sofas are not equipped with built-in drawers for storing bedding, side table or shelves;
  • the range of models on the market makes it possible to choose the desired option in any style and color scheme;
  • most of the models are equipped with a transformation mechanism, that is, they change shape at the request of the owner, unfolding and assembling (and modular options are also combined in various variations).

The disadvantages of sofas with a wide berth include the following:

  • the inability to place in a small area;
  • the price of large and very large sofas is rarely humane, especially if the manufacturer is well-known;
  • corner models are not always easy to fit into an existing setting.

Varieties

Sofas with a wide berth can be straight, angular or modular (they, in turn, can be assembled either in a corner or in a straight line at the request of the owner).

Dimensions 180x200 cm or 200x200 cm are rarely monolithic. Such sofas will take up an unreasonable amount of space. Mainly on the market there are folding products with different transformation mechanisms.

Direct

Straight models require a free wall in the room. And, given the rule that the sofa should occupy a maximum of 2/3 of the wall, the wall should be long. That's why more often choose corner models.

If you decide that you need a straight model, pay attention to those that unfold forward and upward, for example, with a "dolphin" or "tick-tock" transformation mechanism. Such products are quite economical in terms of occupied space, while serving for a long time.

Corner

The corner sofa model requires, logically, a free corner. Depending on how the product is laid out, you need a place either on the side or in front. That's why, when placing your sofa, consider whether it will block the disassembled exit from the room. In addition, the model placed in the corner is not always convenient from the point of view of who is on it, especially if the room is large.

Modular

These products are notable for the fact that they consist of several separate elements (modules) that can be fastened together with Velcro or staples, or simply move, forming a temporary structure. You can collect modules in any order, or arrange them as separate items, or collecting a huge sofa from them.

The more modules the product contains, the more options for assembling the final design.

Materials (edit)

For the manufacture of a frame for upholstered furniture, plastic, metal and wood are used. It depends on what and what quality is used, how strong and durable the product will be. Plastic is not at all the material that is suitable for making a frame for a sofa with a wide berth. For the product to last a long time and not lose its shape, you need solid wood, chipboard with water-repellent impregnation or durable plywood as a material for the frame. Solid wood frame - the most reliable base for furniture, if the material has been well dried and impregnated with special compounds against fungus and moisture.

Metal frame - the most durable if its component parts are connected by welding and carefully fitted to each other. Even being the basis of a large sofa, this design will not lose its shape.

As for fillers, in order to fill upholstered furniture, the following are used:

  • synthetic winterizer;
  • foam blocks;
  • holofiber;
  • synthetic fluff;
  • durafil.

However, for stuffing large sofas, it is undesirable to take too soft stuffing, for example, foam rubber, even high quality. Only foam rubber, which is characterized by high compression, is suitable. For allergy sufferers, the best options are polyurethane foam, periotec or latex - both eco and natural. All of these materials are hypoallergenic.

Also, instead of stuffing in sofas, spring blocks or independent springs are used. If you are looking for an orthopedic sleeping mattress, look for models equipped with independent springs, possibly made from natural materials such as coconut and latex.

Upholstery is something that is immediately noticeable, so it should please the eye of the owner. In addition to beauty, it must be strong, durable and easy to care for. All types of upholstery can be divided into two types:

  • leather;
  • textile.

The first is divided into eco-leather and natural leather, which is very expensive. Textile upholstery can be of different types.

  • Jacquard. It is quite difficult to look after her, but she looks very impressive.
  • Tapestry. It is quite easy to wash and clean, it is hypoallergenic, but you should not put a sofa with such a cover where the sun is shining, as this fabric is very fading.
  • Flock upholstery can become a real find, it not only looks great, but also has excellent properties of strength and reliability, while being little susceptible to damage from mechanical stress.
  • Cotton or linen upholstery ideal for allergy sufferers or those who are committed to eco-style.

Dimensions (edit)

When choosing a sofa, you need to take into account the size of the room where it is planned to be placed. Models with a spacious berth look best in rooms with a large area.

Products differ in the number of landing sites. Standard models are designed for three people, but there are those that can easily accommodate four, or even six. For the harmonious placement of the sofa, you need to take into account not only the area of the room, but also its layout - are the walls free, where the doors and windows are, is the room a walk-through, etc.

Even a very wide sofa may not have the greatest seat depth. Therefore, it is not always convenient to sit on a model that looks wide and comfortable. In order for a person to sit comfortably on the seat, it must be at least 90 cm deep (ideally 105). Narrower models are recommended for use in the kitchen or hallway.

If you are choosing a sofa with a large berth, inquire about the depth of the seat. It should not be less than 120 cm. But too much depth is inconvenient if there is not much free space in the room. In a studio apartment with little furniture, you can put a non-standard large sofa - corner or round, semicircular or modular

Manufacturers

The ratings of manufacturers of upholstered furniture are constantly compiled, but the leaders in them are consistently the same. These are firms that have proven themselves in the market extremely positively, supplying high quality products.

  • First of all it is "Pinskdrev" Is a Belarusian company leading in the production of upholstered furniture. It is interesting that the company uses the most advanced technologies and solutions, but the price of the products is still reasonable.
  • At a Russian factory Rival has its own "trick" - its sofas are made with covers specially sewn for them. Thanks to the presence of these covers, it is very convenient to take care of the furniture.
  • Another Belarusian factory "Lagoon" relies on the quality and reliability of manufactured products, thanks to which the latter is in great demand in the economy segment of budget furniture.
  • "Furniture Holding" produces very high quality products. You can purchase a ready-made model or order according to individual measurements. The factory tries to maintain humane prices for products without artificially inflating them.
  • Concerning "Shatura furniture", it is even represented in the IKEA network, and not only in Russian stores. The combination of "price-quality" of the products of this company is excellent, while the quality is much higher than it could be at such a price.

Design

If your interior is decorated in styles such as modern, neoclassic or art deco, choose corner models with original armrests and a quirky backrest. It is not necessary for the details to be small. Complete the sofa with ottomans with the same upholstery (it should be beautiful and look expensive).

The interior in a minimalist style will decorate the sofa without unnecessary details. Choose models with strict straight lines in neutral achromatic colors - white, gray, black.

If you are close to a sustainable approach in everything, including interior decor, choose products with natural filler (coconut springs) and canvas upholstery... It is also better to choose a natural color, unpainted - gray, a shade of burlap, beige, milky. Both corner models (180x200) and straight ones will fit into such an interior.

Upholstery with floral motifs and dark wood armrests will look good in a room decorated in a shabby chic or Provence style. It is better to choose products measuring 180x200 cm so that they look more compact. Choose models with graceful legs and armrests.

The trump card of ethnic style is the sofa upholstery. If this is an Indian style - let there be "cucumbers", if Africa - bright, pure colors, the interior in the spirit of China will ideally complement the model upholstered in red and gold fabric. So that the sofa does not look separate from the rest of the furniture, select it carefully in color, style and size.

Models with a spacious berth are best placed in the hall. Beds are good for a bedroom.

Selection Tips

Furniture with a wide berth is most often installed in the center of the room or, if the room has a free wall, along it. It is important to choose the rest of the environment in such a way that the sofa does not look alien and does not draw too much attention to itself.

Before purchasing the model you like, draw a diagram of the arrangement of furniture in the room. - manually or on a computer using special applications. This will help you to clearly see how the product will look in the interior, and also, even if it fits into the area of the room, whether it will block the entrance or window, interfere with normal movement around the room. It is important to consider not only how much space the sofa will take when assembled, but also disassembled.

Attention should be paid to the rest of the furnishings. Large sofas do not cope well with small objects, so it is better to limit yourself to a few, but large objects.

Examples of placement in the interior

  • The modular red and white sofa does not need any additions, being a worthy "center" of the room.
  • Built-in shelves, a table, wide armrests - this sofa has it all!
  • The corner sofa in the niche looks very elegant.
  • A minimalistic plain color sofa will brighten up any modern interior.
  • The sheer amount of pillows is the highlight of this sofa.
