In recent years, hair extension has become a very popular procedure among modern women. Thanks to this opportunity, girls with short hair become owners of luxurious long curls in just a couple of hours. Can such hair be dyed? You will find the answer to this question in our material.

Features and subtleties of the process

Hair extensions can be safely attributed to those modern beauty procedures, thanks to which every woman can safely experiment with her appearance. Sooner or later, girls wonder if hair extensions can be dyed. Of course, it is impossible to unequivocally answer this question, since in this case it is worth taking into account all the features of the curls themselves and the subtleties of the dyeing process.

It is worth mentioning right away that not all curls after extension can be dyed. To begin with, it is worth determining what type your curls belong to.

The most popular type is Asian curls, which most often come from China or Korea. Their main difference is that they undergo special processing. Initially, they are freed from the top coat, after which they are sanded, painted and eventually silicone is applied. Such strands have a very attractive appearance, but after several washing procedures they become duller, very tangled and cannot be styled. Additional staining will only aggravate the situation, and the curls will be completely ruined.

Another popular look that is of higher quality is European curls. They usually come from some European countries or Latin America. Sometimes there are options from India.Usually, such options for curls for building are without or with an upper scaly layer. Such strands are pretreated with special acid, and after that they are painted and silicone is applied. Painting such curls is quite possible.

Slavic is another popular type of curls for hair extensions. This option always looks as natural as possible and is of high quality. Even after repeated washing, drying and styling, they do not lose their original appearance. And all because after processing, the upper scaly layer remains completely. Such strands can be safely dyed.

All of the above strands are natural curls. Also, the procedure can be carried out using artificial strands. Such hair extensions must not be dyed categorically.

Whether natural curls were used during the procedure, you can easily find out from the master or on your own at home. Even with a little friction, the artificial strands creak slightly. And if you set one hair on fire, then a sharp plastic smell immediately arises.

How to choose paint?

Having decided on the type of your hair extensions, you probably want to paint your hair at home yourself. Of course, ideally it is better to entrust this to a real experienced professional who knows how to work correctly with paint and can easily cope with the procedure. But if you do everything correctly and take into account all the recommendations, then it is quite possible to cope with the procedure on your own.

To begin with, it is important to choose a quality paint that is exactly suitable for this type of curls. In the product you have chosen, the oxidant content should not exceed 3%. In addition, the product should not contain ammonia and should be designed specifically for this type of curl. Such parameters are possessed only by professional hair dye products, which are distinguished not only by their high quality, but also by their high price.

In addition, it is quite possible to opt for a tinted shampoo or balm. Such hair products are more affordable and allow you to slightly change the tone of the strands. Of course, with the help of such means it is impossible to achieve a long and lasting effect, but it is quite possible to refresh the hair color. Moreover, such shampoos and balms do not harm the curls and do not damage them at all.

It is also important to consider the length of your hair in order to correctly determine the amount of dye you need. If the length of your curls does not exceed forty centimeters, then two standard tubes of 120 milligrams will be enough. For longer hair, take three to four standard tubes.

Staining rules

In order for the result of staining not to upset you, you should take into account all the rules and recommendations. It is possible to dye curls only if at least three to four days have passed after the procedure for extending them. The strands to be dyed must be dry. You do not need to wash your hair first.

First, comb the curls thoroughly and carefully and divide them into parts. After that, apply the prepared color solution to the roots and the entire length of your real hair. After fifteen minutes, you can start coloring the extended strands. Try to do this carefully so that the product does not get on the capsules. After that, you need to wait as long as recommended on the package with the product.

Once the time is up, you can start rinsing off the product. It is best to do this while standing in the shower so as not to tilt your hair. In the event that you wash off the paint by bending over, the capsules and extended curls can be damaged, very tangled. We wash off the paint with warm water, using our usual shampoo. After that, be sure to apply a care balm that will help restore and nourish your hair with useful substances. It is best to use a product that does not require rinsing.

Do not curl the strands while drying, otherwise you will damage them. It is not recommended to use a hair dryer to dry these curls. It is better to let your hair dry naturally. Once they are completely dry, the strands should be combed gently. It is best to start the procedure from the very ends, gradually moving towards the roots.

Tips & Tricks

Remember that you cannot radically change the color of the extended curls. Also, you cannot drastically lighten them or do toning. It is quite possible to change a light shade to a darker one, but not vice versa, since if you want to lighten your hair, you will have to use a product with a high percentage of an oxidizing agent, and this will have a detrimental effect on the extended curls.

In addition, you should not use henna, as the final result can be completely unpredictable. Your natural hair can acquire a completely different shade, which will be radically different from the shade of the extended strands.

In order for hair extensions to delight you as long as possible, you need to take proper care of them, especially if you decide to dye them. For proper care, you should choose only high-quality shampoos, rinses and balsams, which are designed for extended strands. It is better to choose products from the same series, which contain a large amount of nutritious oils.

And one more tip - always go to bed only with well-dried hair, otherwise the strands can become very tangled, and then they will lose their ideal look. In addition, you should refuse to swim in the pool or in the sea, as the colored strands will quickly lose their shade and shine.
