Happiness is in the little things: 6 main hygge rules to be happy right now

What is hygge? There is no exact translation for this word (although some Danes claim that the word "comfort" is most suitable). Scandinavians say that "hygge" is not just a word, but a mood, demeanor, a whole lifestyle.

Wikipedia explains that "hygge" - "Pleasant and highly valued day-to-day feelings of security, equality, personal integrity and spontaneous social flow"... In short, hygge is the Danish art of being happy.

Little happiness every day

Denmark regularly tops the ranking of the happiest countries on the planet. Perhaps we, too, should heed the advice of its inhabitants in order to become a little happier in everyday life. To achieve that harmonious state of hygge, experts advise:

  1. Dress more comfortably. Knitted sweaters, fluffy blankets, soft slippers - they all contribute to creating the right mood.
  2. Create a cozy atmosphere. To do this, it is enough to dim the light, make a fire in the fireplace, and light a few candles (the Danes believe that there can be no "hygge" without candles!).
  3. Gather together. It's not about noisy parties, but about quiet get-togethers with family and friends. The main thing is to have a pleasant time with those you love, without conflicts, competitions and polemics.
  4. Prepare something tasty. Danes love delicious food, especially if it's homemade. Pies, biscuits, hot meat dishes, coffee, tea or cocoa - the main thing is to be hearty and cozy!
  5. Be creative. A person is happiest when he is doing what he loves. Hobbies can be anything: embroidery, jewelry making, knitting, scrapbooking, painting (some people love to color), and so on.
  6. Enjoy the moment. Hygge adherents believe that this is the secret of happiness. You need to allow yourself to enjoy talking with friends, reading a book or walking in nature. The main thing is to learn to appreciate every moment and not let stress into your life!
