More than 10,000 users responded to the call, and the answers were very diverse: men mentioned famous scientists, selfless activists, outstanding actresses and singers, historical figures and contemporaries.

• Mary Shelley. In an era when women had to remain silent and admire their husbands' successes, Mary wrote the legendary Frankenstein, eclipsing all the works of her husband, writer and poet Percy Shelley.
