You can wrap yourself in a bath towel, but there is no guarantee that it will not fall off your body if you move it awkwardly. Such guarantees are provided by the kilt, since it has reliable fixing elements. The kilt performs all other functions like an ordinary bath towel: it is wiped off with it after a shower, it is laid out as a bedding on the shelf of the steam room.

What it is?

Men wore skirts back in Ancient Rome, the Greeks called such clothes fustanella, there were also skirts in the Vikings' wardrobe. But The bath accessory took its name from the clothing of the Scottish Highlanders, it was called Kilt. It was made of checked woolen fabric or printed sheepskin. The skirt made it easy to move along the difficult mountain paths, and in winter, complete with stockings, saved from the cold. The unfolded kilt was a small blanket, which could be covered when spending the night in a hunting lodge.

Modern bath kilts are sewn from terry, linen, flannel materials that absorb moisture well and provide excellent air exchange.

Kilts are a natural rectangular fabric with an elastic gather along the entire length (at the waist), fixed with Velcro. Unlike a bath towel tied with a dubious knot, a kilt gives confidence that an embarrassing situation will not happen to its owner.

Bath clothes for women and men look different. In men, it is fixed at the waist and goes down to the knees. For women, the canvas is attached above the chest and also goes down to the knees. Kilts are good for baths and saunas, they can be used after showering and swimming in a regular bath. They perform many functions and are endowed with different advantages:

  • transforms into a bath towel or bedding for a shelf in a sauna;
  • quickly absorb moisture, have good air circulation;
  • endowed with reliable fasteners;
  • made of natural, tactile materials;
  • do not hinder movement;
  • perform hygienic functions;
  • are comfortable clothes for visiting the bathhouse in the company;
  • reliable, durable and practical.

All these advantages apply to a well-tailored product. But there are claims to some types of bath clothes.

  • The most unsuccessful one can be considered a universal product intended for both men and women. As a result, clothes are too short for women, and men in a baggy product with a pocket near the floor look comical.
  • Velcro does not fit well with terry cloth and leaves a lot of clues.
  • Products made of waffle linen, flax or flannel quickly get wet, wrinkle and are able to shine through.

Species overview

Despite the simple appearance, reminiscent of a towel or a terry sheet, the kilt has certain differences in cut designed for men, women and children. Besides, products differ in the method of fixing, have Velcro fasteners, ties, Velcro.

Mens

Before the appearance of the first kilts, men were wrapped in towels, which slid down and hindered their movements. It is enough to feel once on yourself a comfortable, pleasant fabric with an elastic band at the waist and a reliable fastener to permanently refuse to wind a sheet that does not have a retainer.

The male kilt differs from the female version in terms of parameters. The rectangular fabric of a man's product is wider, but shorter, since it is worn from the waist, not from the chest. Models can be of 2 types - up to the knees and below the knees. The canvas is conveniently wrapped and fixed with Velcro, fasteners or buttons.

The product can be chosen with or without a large pocket. As a decor, laconic embroidery is often present on a men's kilt.

Womens

The female kilt is sometimes called a pareo, as its prototype comes from the clothes of the Polynesians of the island of Tahiti. The islanders wear it in different ways: fixing it on the belt, on the chest, under the armpits. In our culture, only the latter option has taken root as bath clothes. The canvas is large enough to cover a lady from armpits to knees and guarantee a secure wrap-around. Sauna pareos are sometimes decorated with ribbons, bows, and embroidery.

Baby

Toddlers and adolescents can use the kilt after bathing, showering or going to the sauna with the family. Manufacturers have developed a line of comfortable colorful products, taking into account the age and gender of children.

As an example, we will give a bright positive kilt for boys from 3 to 7 years old from the collection "Funny Gnomes". The model is endowed with a deep smell, a convenient fixator and is designed for several sizes at once, which makes it possible for the baby to grow up with the clothes. The bath product is decorated with contrasting white piping. In the same style, you can buy a hat with a pompom, a towel, terry slippers, a rug and other soft pleasant things from this collection.

Pay attention to the second set - a kilt with a baby towel, which you can comfortably wrap up in after taking a bath. This beautiful two-tone product in sunny colors will surely appeal to kids.

Materials (edit)

You won't surprise anyone with terry bath accessories, but they are not cheap. There are other, more budgetary fabrics from which towels and clothes for the sauna are sewn. Let's take a closer look at what materials are used for sewing a kilt.

Mahra

The most popular bath linen, as it is dense, fluffy, pleasant to the touch, absorbs moisture well and perfectly lets air through. Mahra warms in drafts and does not retain heat in hot weather. It is durable, practical, has a wide range of textures and colors. Using a terry kilt, you can run from the pool to the steam room several times, take it off and put it on again on a wet body. In this case, the kilt does not have to be twisted endlessly, as it happens with thin fabrics. But a very wet product will dry for a long time.It weighs more than thin fabrics and is more expensive.

Waffle cloth

It is significantly inferior in density to terry cloth, but has its own advantages:

  • easy;
  • dries quickly;
  • endowed with hygroscopic properties;
  • hypoallergenic;
  • is inexpensive.

The waffle product can be rubbed in the bath, massaging the muscles to improve blood circulation. The biggest drawback of a fabric is that it gets wet quickly.

Linen

It is a natural, dense, wear-resistant fabric. It has good thermal conductivity, dries quickly, does not stretch. But at the same time linen kilt wrinkles easily, gets wet quickly, and also shines through.

Bamboo

Viscose bamboo fiber, especially when mixed with cotton, is extremely suitable for bath accessories and kilts in particular. The product consists of fluffy threads, is a good thermostat, can absorb and hold a large amount of moisture. The fabric is strong, durable, does not collect odors, is easy to wash, it does not fade or shrink during washing. The bamboo linen kilt provides excellent air circulation, it is impossible to freeze, sweat or overheat in it.

Cotton

Cotton is the most abundant fiber on the planet and is added to many natural and artificial yarns. Kilts made of pure cotton are soft and pleasant to the touch, "breathe", quickly absorb moisture, have good hygienic properties, and are inexpensive. But cotton wrinkles easily, shrinks during washing and dries for a long time.

How to choose?

In specialized retail outlets, you can buy not only a suitable kilt, but also a whole set, complemented by bath accessories from one collection. On sale there are personalized kits with beautiful embroidery. It is difficult to choose a large assortment of colors and fabrics. In order not to regret buying, you need to pay attention to a number of points.

  1. The main task is to find a comfortable kilt. He should sit so that while in the bath you can forget about him.
  2. It is important to correctly calculate the size, pay attention to the amount of smell, then the kilt will not hinder movement and disperse in a sitting position. The length is adjusted to taste.
  3. Fabrics must have hygroscopic properties, maintain good air exchange, not concentrate odors, not shine through and not wrinkle.
  4. It is preferable to choose white or beige shades, as poorly fixed dye on fabrics can be imprinted on the body.
  5. Elastic bands and fasteners should be comfortable. Velcro can create a problem with fluffy fabrics, tighten the puffs. A kilt with an elastic band and drawstrings lasts longer, Velcro loses its functionality over time.

When choosing a product, you should pay attention to its quality:

  • a good kilt is made from double-sided terry cloth, with 100% cotton thread;
  • the model must have plasticity, sit nicely, keep its shape;
  • overlock is not used in creating a high-quality product, the edges should have closed seams, tucked twice - then they will not crumble over time;
  • for good models, the corners on the canvas are processed by hand, the excess fabric is cut off so that they are not thick and rough;
  • It's nice if the kilt has a loop on the belt - then it can be hung on a hook in the shower room.

A good kilt will ensure a comfortable stay in the sauna. It can also be a great gift for friends and family who love to steam in the sauna.
