Every woman at any age wants to look stunning. It is for this reason that ladies are ready for any experiments with appearance and hair in particular. But experimentation shouldn't be harmful. Hair dyeing with conventional means cannot be called a gentle method. Therefore, many women are looking for folk and safe ways to dye their hair, for example, using onion peels.

Advantages and disadvantages

Dyeing hair with onion peel is an idea that comes to mind for many modern girls and women who want not only to transform, but also to maintain the health of their curls. This method is not a novelty, since it is well known to our grandmothers, who also at all times strived for beauty. Such coloring can not only change the color of the hair and paint over the gray curls, but it may well be of some benefit. After all, the husk of the most ordinary onion contains many minerals and useful elements that help to strengthen the curls and return them to a healthy shine. It is worth noting that, thanks to this method, severe hair loss can be prevented and stopped. The beneficial substances contained in the husk nourish the hair roots and strengthen them.

This procedure, which is easy to carry out at home, will help get rid of dandruff and help reduce the secretion of the sebaceous glands, which is important for those who have oily scalp. In addition, useful trace elements and other substances help curls regain elasticity and natural shine.

The main advantage of this method is that this method of staining is suitable for absolutely everyone, since it does not cause allergic reactions. Thanks to this simple method, you can easily paint over gray curls and give a rich and beautiful shade to your hair.

Moreover, this method does not require serious financial costs and is rightfully considered economical.

The main and practically the only drawback of this staining method is that you can never predict one hundred percent in advance what the result will be. But if everything is done correctly according to the recipe, then you will definitely be satisfied with the result. Another disadvantage is that you should not hope for a long-term result. As a rule, the staining effect pleases many women for two, maximum three weeks.

And this method of coloring is not suitable for very dark hair. It is also worth mentioning that dyeing with onion peels is not suitable for owners of too dry hair. And if the curls were previously painted with any modern means, including henna, then this method will not work either.

Who is it suitable for?

So, it was said above that this dyeing method is not suitable for owners of too dark hair. It is worth dwelling in more detail on who, then, is exactly suitable for staining using the most common onion peel. This method is perfect for blondes, brown-haired women and owners of light blond curls. It is on such hair that you can easily achieve excellent results.

Brunettes, too, may well decide to experiment. Thanks to the correct proportions and formulation, brunettes will be able to heal their curls and give them a golden hue, which will be very interesting to look in the sun. Red-haired beauties can also use onion peels, but they will not be able to achieve dramatic changes. This method will restore the natural shine of the hair and add a little saturation to the natural shade of the curls.

Preparatory stage

Any procedure requires preliminary preparation, since the result itself directly depends on this. Curls need to be washed with the most common shampoo the day before painting. It is not recommended to do this on the same day. Before starting the procedure, you should take care of protection. Be sure to use a cape to protect your clothes and neck. And to protect the ears and the area near the hairline, you can use the most common petroleum jelly.

Remember that dyeing can cause pigments in onion skins to penetrate the top layer of the skin. As a result, dark spots of an unpleasant color may appear. To avoid this, it is recommended to use olive oil. For those who are going to paint over gray hair, we recommend preparing a jar of glycerin in advance. This common remedy will allow the pigment to be absorbed better into the hair scales and achieve an even color.

In addition, it is worth remembering that the end result, namely the intensity and saturation of the color, directly depends on the concentration of the prepared broth. For example, for a light golden hue, only 50 grams of onion husks are enough.

To make the color more saturated, golden brown, you should take at least 70 grams of a natural product. And to give the hair a bright orange or reddish tint, the husk should be at least 100 grams.

Next, you should properly prepare the onion peel.

For home hair dyeing, only the first dry layers of onions are used. Bulbs must be intact, with no signs of damage or deterioration.

After removing the first two dry layers, spread them on the most ordinary baking sheet and dry for 2-3 days in a well-ventilated area. After the blank can be stored in a cloth bag in a dark and dry place.

Subtleties of painting

It is necessary to choose a suitable recipe for yourself and find out the rules for staining at home. The painting process is as follows:

  1. the prepared broth must always be filtered and cooled;
  2. while the broth cools down, you need to divide the hair into small strands of the same thickness, which will allow you to achieve uniform dyeing;
  3. soak a cotton pad or cotton sponge with broth and apply to curls, starting from the back of the head along the entire length; try not to get on the skin, you need to apply the broth with light movements, as if just soaking them;
  4. then you can wrap your head with a plastic bag, and on top with a towel;
  5. hold for at least 1.5 hours, wash off with warm water without using shampoo.

To achieve a light golden hue, prepare a decoction using the following recipe:

  1. Pour 50 grams of the prepared husk with a glass of water and boil for 30 minutes;
  2. to achieve a result, the broth is applied to the curls for several days in a row.

For a more saturated, brown shade, the following algorithm should be performed:

  1. take half a glass of husk and pour it with a glass of water;
  2. boil the broth for half an hour, then filter it;
  3. as soon as it cools a little, add two small tablespoons of glycerin and mix thoroughly.
  4. This mixture should be applied to the hair for a week until the desired result is achieved.

Important! To make the color more saturated and "chocolate", you can add literally one large spoonful of oak bark to this recipe.

      To get a chestnut shade, you should follow a recipe such as:

      1. take 90 grams of husk and fill it with one liter of water;
      2. cook the broth for 30 minutes, then filter and cool;
      3. you should paint curls with a decoction for several days in a row to achieve the desired shade.
