Quilted coat

What is quilted fabric? Insulation is placed between two cuts of any material, then the layers are stitched at the desired distance, and a new type of material is obtained, from which, in fact, clothes are already sewn (or not only clothes, but also bedspreads, blankets).

Once upon a time, such a complex fabric was used only for lining (sewn on or removable) warm clothes. But if now at the height of fashion, for example, it is almost nonsense - a sleeveless coat, then why not make the former lining the right side? Moreover, modern heaters, which can be warm or lightweight, voluminous or flat, light or heavy, natural or synthetic, allow any flight of designers' imagination to be realized.

Distinctive features of a modern quilted coat are:

  • excellent thermal insulation properties due to the large number of evenly spaced seams;
  • high windproof properties;
  • lightness of the product;
  • practicality;
  • the possibility of creating a graceful silhouette, which can hardly be achieved when using another, more voluminous, thicker and warmer fabric in combination with insulation.

Styles and models

Quilted fabric is a very grateful material; you can create a coat of almost any model and style from it. Depending on the season, quilted coats can be lightweight, demi-season or warm.

In this case, the models can be very different:

  • straight cut coat - a classic option for a calm and self-confident woman;
  • trench coat - a style for all times, acquiring special elegance when using often quilted fabric;
  • a hooded coat - a model with a sporty accent for girls and women with an active lifestyle;
  • short (sometimes up to the waist) coat-jacket - a small stylish thing for a stylish girl;
  • cardigan coat - another classic version of a collarless coat, but now with a twist in the form of beautiful quilting and insulation;
  • a fitted coat of an empire silhouette with two rows of buttons on the chest - a model in a romantic style, emphasizing the tenderness and elegance of the owner, however, if necessary, remarkably hiding extra centimeters at the waist and hips;
  • a fitted coat with a flared bell skirt or pleated skirt - depending on the degree of flared skirt, the image also turns out to be very different: from refined and a little playful to shockingly defiant;
  • an o-shaped coat is a great example of a retro style, especially if you add accessories in the same style in the form of ankle boots, gloves, a hat and, of course, a small handbag;
  • a trapezoidal coat is a warm, comfortable and beautiful find for obese and pregnant women;
  • oversized coat - for fans of shapeless clothes, but this coat looks great with a sheath dress;
  • asymmetric coat - for women who are tired of familiar images, and in such a coat everything can be asymmetrical - the front of the coat is higher than the back, oblique sleeves, one shelf is asymmetrical in relation to the other, an asymmetric collar.
  • coats with sleeves of various lengths - models without sleeves, with short sleeves, with sleeves 7/8 and 3/4 length.

Models of quilted coats can have different shapes and types of collars:

  • small turn-down collar (round or pointed, single and multi-layered);
  • stand-up collar (with or without a buckle for fixing), rounded or straight;
  • English collar (split or one-piece);
  • shawl collar (with or without quilting, which makes the collar more voluminous);
  • a high knitted collar, often combined with knitted cuffs (long or short) of a contrasting color to the coat;
  • Detachable collar made of natural or artificial fur, trendy this season.

The clasp can also be varied:

  • classic, with buttons (straight or asymmetrical), hidden or hidden;
  • with a zipper (detachable or one-piece for jackets with a fastener to the middle of the chest), and the zipper can be sewn usually or diagonally, and even over the shelf;
  • combine two types of fasteners: the lower part of the straps - zipper, the upper part - decorative loops and the same hooks.

Length

According to this parameter, quilted coats also practically have no restrictions: from short sleeveless jackets-coats to stylish insulated floor-length coats. Coats of medium length, up to the knee, are especially popular.

Material

Upper fabric material:

  • gabardine;
  • jeans;
  • tweed;
  • lightweight drape;
  • wool;
  • leather;
  • raincoat fabric;
  • polyester;
  • a combined version of two or more types of fabric (quilted and non-quilted) with inserts of leather, suede, tweed, drape, knitwear - for example, a quilted leather coat with knitted sleeves.

Equally important is the distance at which the stitching of the three-layer fabric is made (it depends on how voluminous the final product will look) and the type of stitches itself: geometric (squares, rhombuses, stripes) or in the form of abstract patterns - they add additional stylish accents.

Insulation material can be artificial (synthetic winterizer, holofiber, tinsulate, waltherm) or natural (batting, goose or duck down).

Colour

The color scheme of quilted coats provides a vast field for creative ideas of fashion designers: red, yellow, turquoise, purple, green, dark orange and, of course, classics - white, black, gray, beige. Various combinations of shades of the same tone or different colors are in fashion this season. The quilted coat in silver or golden metallic also looks impressive.

Fabrics with various prints are also used, sometimes appliques are applied to the fabric or even decorated with embroidery.

What to wear with?

With a choice of clothes that go well with a quilted coat, you will never have problems due to its rare versatility:

  • A short jacket can be perfectly combined with any denim clothing. You can choose a skirt of different lengths and styles (straight or flared, from mini to maxi) or jeans. Add appropriate shoes (ankle boots to a short skirt or high boots to mini, sneakers or sneakers to jeans). Depending on the choice, you will create a playful spicy or sporty look. A long knitted scarf will be a great addition.
  • A straight demi-season coat, a pencil skirt, medium-length suede boots with flat or low wide heels, a voluminous snood scarf - stylish and comfortable at the same time, which is not so often.
  • A spectacular leather fitted coat with curly stitching of the most popular medium length, with a flared bottom, will present a cocktail dress and pumps or stiletto heels worn under it in a winning light.
  • A cocoon coat with short sleeves will create the effect of fragility if you wear a straight skirt or trousers, long leather gloves and a hat with a small brim.
  • Winter cropped coats will look great on you, while you will be especially comfortable and warm if you also wear insulated trousers with fur boots or insulated sneakers.

The selection of accessories for a quilted coat is also important.

The main thing is to observe an important rule: if the coat is monochromatic, has a simple cut, ordinary quilting, then you can and should experiment freely with accessories for it: play with the colors of the scarf, gloves and hats. So, you can choose them in the same color as the coat, but in different shades.

You can choose contrasting accessories and add a bag, which will also be made of quilted material (leather, good quality leatherette or fabric).

If the coat itself is colorful, then experimenting with accessories will be inappropriate, because your task is to create a stylish image, be it elegant or deliberately careless, and an excessive amount of colorful and incompatible accessories is not always justified even in a circus.

Fashion trends

Saturated deep colors of quilted coats from Fendi and Escada, so different in style, but equally interesting in style.

Cropped and elongated oversized quilted coat from Balenciaga.

Quilted coat-jacket in bright yellow color with burgundy fluffy collar and decorative fastener from the same brand.

Iceberg's collection of quilted jacket-coats is so cozy, warm and comfortable even in appearance that there is no doubt about the right to life of quilts.

The same brand has released an ultra-fashionable novelty of this season - a sleeveless coat made in a quilted form and in two versions at once: short and long.

A separate conversation will focus on quilted coats 2016 from the fashion house Chanel and fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld.

The Chanel brand, as usual, delights with the elegance and sophistication of its images, combining almost incongruous, for example, oversized quilted coats with classic elements - a black, slightly shapeless loose-fitting coat, widening downwards, but double-breasted, with two buttons, with an English collar.

For strict and even slightly unapproachable ladies - a double-breasted quilted coat in an English respectable style - a black, tailored, double-breasted, long quilted coat with an English collar. And under it - jeans and sneakers. Weird? And it looks - stylish!

Super-trendy metallic color of a quilted cardigan coat with large patch pockets, cropped sleeves in combination with a deep blue midi skirt and ... sporty high boots with lace-ups. looks - stylish!

A stunning effect is produced by a cropped jacket-coat with a peplum, made of two fabrics of different compositions and colors, with quilted sleeves and side parts of the shelves with bows at the intersection of the lines.

Manufacturers and brands

Quilted coats very quickly left the catwalk "to the people", the ideas of designers of fashion houses were quickly picked up by world manufacturers and introduced into mass production.

Today it is easier to say which manufacturer does not produce quilted products, but the leadership is firmly held by:

  • the Italian company "Geox";
  • Finnish products from Finn Flare;
  • German products from "Tom Tailor";
  • American firm "Rick Cardona";
  • Norwegian coat "Helly Hansen"
  • numerous Russian designers, including "D`imma fashion studio".
