When purchasing modern equipment, few of the users think about how to clean an iron with a steam cleaner from scale at home or how to keep a steam cleaner in order. In the meantime, there are maintenance measures to avoid the formation of scale and reduce its formation in the future. Before cleaning the popular Tefal steam generator today, you should carefully study the manufacturer's recommendations so as not to spoil the expensive device.

We use the self-cleaning function

Scale formation is not the only cause for concern, but it is the most dangerous for heating appliances.

The need to clean the Tefal steam generator most often arises in connection with a possible deterioration in its performance. If the steam holes are clogged with salt deposits, the processing intensity will be noticeably reduced.

Not every iron or steam cleaner can be brought into optimal working condition easily and simply. The easiest way to do this is with a station that has a self-cleaning function. The presence of such an opportunity will be indicated by the marking on the package: Anti calc or Calc clean. Cleaning the appliance with the built-in system is effortless. First of all, this option is available in Tefal GV series models.

The steam cleaner, which has this option, is equipped with a special button on the outside of the appliance body. When pressed and held for 2 seconds, the filter is activated, which is located between the pump and the water tank. The self-cleaning button activates the flushing of dirt and deposits using pressurized liquid and steam.

The procedure for self-cleaning the steam generator or iron will be as follows:

  • the water tank must be filled with distilled water to 100%;
  • the device is plugged into an outlet, heats up to maximum temperature values, after turning off the light indication, the equipment is de-energized;
  • the device prepared in this way is transferred to a sink (preferably a metal one), placed with the sole down;
  • the self-cleaning button is pressed, the set time is held;
  • if the system works properly, dirt, rust, scale will flow out of the soleplate, a jet of steam may appear;
  • cleaning is carried out until the water completely drains out, with periodic shaking of the sole - if the liquid remains dark until the last, it is better to repeat the procedure;
  • upon completion of maintenance, the reservoir of the device is rinsed with clean running water and dried.

    It is recommended to repeat all stages of self-cleaning at least once a month - this will keep the device in good working order.

    Folk remedies

    What to do if you rinse your iron or steam cleaner Tefal inside to be at home? In this case, you can speed up the process by using folk remedies. The simplest solution is citric acid solution.

    • Mix 25 g of citric acid and 1 liter of water until smooth (no visible crystalline particles).
    • The resulting mixture is poured into the reservoir of the iron or steam cleaner. The time of passive exposure is from 15 to 25 minutes.
    • After the specified time has elapsed, the maximum temperature is selected on the steam generator. In the steaming mode, the technician must completely get rid of the liquid on his own. To speed up the process, the unnecessary cotton cloth is ironed at the same time.
    • Upon completion of cleaning, the device cools down, clean water is poured into its reservoir, held for 15 minutes, and drained. The procedure is repeated up to 3 times - to completely remove traces of citric acid from the system.

    Acetic cleaning is no less effective and allows you to additionally remove carbon deposits from the sole surface. In this case, the folk method involves the use of a product of natural origin.... Vinegar (not essence) is diluted with water in equal proportions, then the mixture is poured into the reservoir of the steam station in a volume sufficient to cover 25% of its total displacement. After that, the device is kept off for 20 minutes, then the steam generation mode is set to full power, the device is heated up and an unnecessary piece of fabric is ironed.

    After all the liquid has evaporated, the reservoir is thoroughly rinsed with clean water. It is enough to repeat this procedure 2-3 times.

    In the process of using this cleaning method, it is important to provide intensive ventilation of the room. Vinegar vapors have an unpleasant odor.

    Dry cleaning

    Tefal Anti-Calc Cleaning gives good results. But not all devices are equipped with a sensor for the level of contamination of the sole and the system as a whole. In addition, pump stations are not very suitable for home cleaning due to the complexity of their design. Flow-through allow self-descaling. Moreover, the system may shut down and not work until the blockage is removed, protecting the mechanism from damage.

    Modern manufacturers of household chemicals successfully produce ready-made compositions for cleaning irons and flow-through steam generators.

    1. Topper. The liquid is sold in packs of 250 ml, before filling into the tank it is diluted with distilled water in a ratio of 1 to 3. The mixture is placed inside the device, heated, and then disconnected from the network. The exposure time is 2 hours, after this time you need to rinse the container with water. The procedure is repeated 2-3 times to completely remove salt deposits.
    2. Top house. German cleaner for steam generators and similar devices. The gel-like composition is diluted with water in a ratio of 1 to 2, poured into the tank.Next, the device placed vertically is heated to the maximum temperature, disconnected from the network and left to act for 10 minutes. After that, the container is thoroughly washed and the liquid is evaporated, achieving the release of all exfoliated contaminants.
    3. Mellerud BIO. Acts by analogy with other products, the gel is mixed with water and left to act. Country of origin - Germany.

    Preventing limescale deposits

    To avoid the failure of a steam cleaner or an iron with a steaming function from Tefal, you need to pay some attention to observing the rules of its operation.

    In particular, it is best to use specially prepared distilled or demineralized water for flushing and filling the tank. A liquid obtained through a reverse osmosis filter is also suitable.

    Ordinary tap water is categorically not suitable for these purposes. - it must first be softened with a special agent for irons.

    This approach will avoid annoying breakdowns, it will become the best measure for the prevention of scale formation. In addition, the recommended tank cleaning schedule must be followed. Then the risks of device breakdown will be minimal.
