Required items

The essentials that will allow you to properly maintain a pet include a cage, perch, grain feed, a feeder, a sippy cup. All this should be with you before buying a pet. Pay attention to the choice of food. It must consist of high-quality components, it is unacceptable to use expired or mold-infected grains.

It is also important to monitor the quality of the water, it is unacceptable for it to be chlorinated. Do not use tap water. Better if it is in bottles. To care for the beak, you need a mineral stone. To bathe your pet, purchase a special bath for him. For the joy of the parrot, purchase toys and items for the cage:

  • ladders;
  • rings;
  • bell;
  • swing.

There are also whole playgrounds for birds, which are located in the room. You can either purchase them or make them yourself from scrap materials. You will need paper to keep the cage clean. Buy a package of the cheapest paper, lay it on the bottom of the cage. Change to a new sheet after contamination.

On the recommendation of the owners, paper towels can also be used for this purpose. But newspapers are not worth taking because of the printing ink. If she gets inside, then your feathered friend will be poisoned.

Parrots are guided by the sun. If it got up, then their day begins.

If this does not suit you, cover the cage with a thick blanket at night, and simply remove it when you rise. This will help keep you asleep.

What to feed?

We have already found out that you will find special grain food for birds in the pet store. Once again, we remind you that you pay attention to the integrity of the packaging and the expiration dates. Since good food is the key to the health of your pet. Fried, spicy, salty food is contraindicated for parrots, therefore it is undesirable to treat them from your table. There are several ways to diversify your friend's menu.

  1. Fruits. It is believed that parrots do not like them. However, before confirming this, you should still offer a healthy treat to your friend. Fruit should be extremely fresh, pre-washed, peeled and cut into small pieces. Please note that parrots cannot use persimmon, mango, avocado or papaya. The rest of the fruit is possible, provided it is well tolerated.
  2. Vegetables. It is not recommended to give your parrots onions, celery, radishes and radishes. Carrots, cucumbers, different types of cabbage, peppers, corn, peas, tomatoes are perfect. Vegetables should be fresh, clean, and cut into small pieces.
  3. Greens. Parrots do not tolerate scented herbs, so limit your diet to cilantro, celery and dill. Give some greens daily. Use beet tops, various lettuce leaves, clover, plantain, spinach, burdock, meadow herbs. Natural foliage will enrich your pet's diet and nourish it with vitamin C.
  4. The birds gnaw everything. To satisfy these reflexes, it is recommended to give them different branches. Linden and maple branches, as well as pussy willows, cherries, alder, rowan, currant, pear - all this will suit your pet. There are also some house plants that the parrot will like to taste: bamboo, Kalanchoe, palm, hibiscus, citrus trees. It is forbidden to give acacia, lilac, oak, bird cherry, poplar and elderberry.

Before offering your pet a treat, soak the branches in cool water for 5-6 hours, then rinse them thoroughly and pour over boiling water.

Remember that some foods can harm your pet:

  • salt;
  • milk;
  • chocolate;
  • bread.

How to wash?

The problem of bathing is acute for the owner of the parrot, if the bird does not like to wash. It would seem that this is not required. But not everything is so simple. Since the bird flies through all rooms, once it gets dirty, it will spread the dirt throughout the house. Let's take a look at the instructions for a successful bath.

  1. If your pet doesn't like being touched, then it's best to wrap it in a towel.
  2. Then fix the head. To do this, while holding the body, take the bird under the cheeks.
  3. Bathroom lighting should not be too bright. Use dim lights.
  4. For stubborn dirt, use a soap solution. It should be applied with light massaging movements in the direction of feather growth. Be careful not to get soap in your eyes and beak.
  5. Use natural drying methods. Do not use hair dryers or heaters.

For lovers of water procedures, bathing is much easier. Fill a suitable container with water at room temperature and your pet will do everything himself.

Some species like running water. Then adjust the temperature of the water and give complete freedom of action.

Helpful hints

When keeping parrots at home, they must be fed with vitamins and minerals. Vitamins are needed in spring and autumn, as well as for diseases and during molting. You can find ready-made parrot mixes at veterinary pharmacies.

If you want to use natural substances, you can add lemon juice or honey in small concentrations to the cup. About 3-4 drops per 100 ml of water. Minerals are essential for strong bones, feathers and beak.

Feed your pet with crushed eggshells or chalk about once a month, and then he will feel good and delight you for a long time.

Education

More often than not, parrot owners wonder if their pet can speak. It is possible to teach speech to any parrot.

  1. The learning process should be carried out by the person whom the bird is not afraid of.
  2. Start with simple phrases like your pet's name.
  3. Your intonation should be gentle and your mood should be benevolent. Be patient, you will need from 2 months to six months for the pet to speak.
  4. Remember that you can only teach speech if your parrot lives alone. When he learns to speak, feel free to buy him a friend.

Reproduction

    Parrots readily breed in captivity. For this, the birds must like each other. If the male begins to show his attention to the female, be prepared for the appearance of chicks. Be sure to buy a hatching house. The clutch can contain from 8 to 10 eggs. The female takes them away every other day for 1-2, after which she begins to incubate.

    In 18-21 days the first chick will hatch, his brothers and sisters will appear after him. Most often, parrots bring offspring in winter.
