Correctly selected bedding is the key to a healthy and comfortable sleep. Manufacturers offer many types of kits, which include a different number of accessories. This article will focus on "duets" - family bedding sets for married couples. Let's understand the features and purpose of such products.

What it is?

Often married couples cannot choose the size and type of blanket so that both husband and wife would like it. Situations are not uncommon when one of the spouses likes warm downy models, and the other likes cooler bamboo options.

Sleep can be disrupted by constantly pulling the blanket over yourself - it is these situations that lead to family quarrels in the future.

There is a sure way to avoid these problems - the purchase of 2 blankets that meet the requirements of each of the spouses. It is for such couples that manufacturers began to produce family bedding sets. Their peculiarity lies in the presence of 2 duvet covers, and not one. This means that spouses will be able to secure themselves a comfortable night's rest, during which they will not have to wage a "war" for the right to possess a blanket.

What is included?

Family bed sets consist of a large bed sheet for a double bed, 2 duvet covers for one-and-a-half comforters, 2 pillowcases. Some sets come with 4 or more square or rectangular pillowcases. More convenient to use are "duets" with a sheet with an elastic band - such an accessory is fixed on the sides of the mattress, so that it does not slip and does not get confused.

What is the difference from euro linen?

The difference between these 2 sets is equipment and dimensions. "Euro" contains only 1 large duvet cover 180x200 cm instead of two one and a half. All European sets have 2 pillowcases measuring 50x70, and in family sets there can be 1 or 2 pairs. "Euro" is for double or euro beds, while family - only for standard beds for 2 people.

Review of materials

For sewing family bedding sets use natural, synthetic or combined fabrics. To choose high-quality and pleasant to the body accessories, you need to familiarize yourself with the characteristics of each material.

Satin

This material is made from two types of cotton threads: fine and dense... Thanks to a special type of weaving, in which a twisted thread is woven into every 4 purl, a fabric with an elegant smooth and shiny front surface is obtained.

With this technology, gloss is present only on one side, while the other is matte.

Benefits of satin underwear.

  1. Elegant appearance. Satin sets visually resemble silk sets, but they are several times cheaper.
  2. Hypoallergenic... Cotton textiles do not irritate the skin, which makes it suitable not only for allergy sufferers, but also for small children.
  3. Ensuring comfortable and healthy sleep due to the ability of the material to absorb moisture and ventilate the air. Bed linen made of satin also does not cause discomfort when resting, because due to the rough seamy side, it adheres well to the surface and does not slip on the bed.
  4. Undemanding care. Satin linen practically does not wrinkle, it does not need to be ironed.
  5. Strength and durability.

The disadvantages of satin sets include a higher cost compared to conventional cotton models. Some consumers complain that it can be hot to sleep on such underwear in summer.

Rayon

This material resembles natural silk in terms of performance and appearance: high-quality fabric with a glossy surface, high elasticity and softness. Artificial canvases are made from natural cellulose. This raw material is much cheaper than the extraction of fiber from silkworm cocoons, which affects its cost.

Artificial silk contains 80% cellulose, which means that its properties are similar to those of cotton. Material advantages.

  1. Softness. Artificial silk gives a pleasant tactile sensation on contact with the body.
  2. Ease. Thanks to this property, textiles dry quickly.
  3. Provides deep sleep through the ability to quickly absorb moisture and circulate air.
  4. Does not accumulate static electricity.
  5. Does not fade when washed.
  6. Suitable for people with sensitive skin and those prone to allergies.

Artificial silk also has disadvantages. For example, unlike its natural “brother”, it easily crumples, and when it gets wet it loses its strength and can break. It has weaker air permeability, it warms worse: due to such shortcomings, bed linen can be uncomfortable for use in the cold season.

Calico

This is a natural cotton fabric with a plain weave of thick and thin fibers. The material with a dense structure is wear-resistant - it can withstand intensive use, retains its original shape and color for up to 300 wash cycles in an automatic machine.

Other advantages of coarse calico bedding.

  1. Environmental friendliness... The material is made from natural raw materials, and natural pigments are used for its coloring, which do not cause allergies and irritations. Thanks to these features, coarse calico textiles are suitable for children.
  2. Easy to clean... You do not need to use specialized products to wash bedding. Textile dries quickly and is easy to iron (with or without steam humidification). Repeated washings with the use of chemically aggressive agents do not reduce the quality of the calico and do not significantly harm the prints.
  3. No static electricity... Natural materials do not accumulate it, so you can save on antistatic agents.
  4. Air permeability and hygroscopicity. With such bedding sets, the body will practically not sweat, and if this happens, the calico will absorb excess moisture without causing discomfort.
  5. Wide range of colors and prints... Bright warm and cold shades, natural motives, landscapes, geometric shapes, flower arrangements - these and many other designs can be found in shop windows. Thanks to the rich assortment, it is easy to choose a set that will appeal to the exterior and complement the interior of the room.
  6. Low price.

The disadvantages of coarse calico sets include their shrinkage during the first wash (it can be up to 7%) - this feature must be taken into account when choosing the size of bedding.

Some people do not like the look of coarse calico textiles, since they do not have an elegant gloss and shine.

Poplin

This is a material in the production of which dense warp threads are intertwined in a checkerboard pattern with a coarse weft. Cloths are made from 100% cotton. The fabric can also be combined: from cotton with the addition of synthetic fibers, wool or silk. For the production of bedding sets, only cotton fibers are most often used.

Poplin is lightweight and pleasant to the touch. Despite the visual and tactile softness, the material is dense and durable. Its other benefits.

  1. Good breathability and hygroscopicity... The material perfectly absorbs excess moisture and does not interfere with the natural thermoregulation of the body. Under poplin duvet covers it is not so hot in summer and not so cold in winter.
  2. Easy care... Textiles can be machine washed as usual at temperatures up to 40 degrees. Pillowcases, sheets and duvet covers practically do not form creases: due to this feature, they are easy to iron even without the steaming mode.
  3. Hypoallergenic... This advantage is typical for 100% cotton sets.
  4. No slip... Poplin, due to its rough surface, does not slip on the surface of a sofa or bed.
  5. Decent ratio of cost, quality and appearance. Poplin family sets are included in the budget line, but at the same time they look solid and last a long time.

Bed linen made of low-quality poplin has significant drawbacks. For example, it can shed heavily during the first wash and shrink (the combined "poplin + wool" textiles are especially strongly deformed).

Poplin cloths with an excessive addition of synthetic fibers quickly deteriorate: pellets appear on their surface, paints fade from washing and when exposed to ultraviolet radiation.

Polycotton

This is a combined material - a mix of cotton fibers and polyester. The cost price of polycotton is small, therefore bedding sets made from this fabric are affordable.

Their other virtues include the following.

  1. Resistance to mechanical wear... The textiles are durable and reliable. Bed sets, provided that high-quality dyes are used, do not fade for a long time and will last several seasons with regular use. Polycotton does not deform: it does not shrink and does not stretch.
  2. Easy care... Sheets, pillowcases and duvet covers practically do not wrinkle after washing, so they look presentable even in the absence of ironing. Textiles are easy to clean and dry quickly.
  3. Hypoallergenic.

Polycotton has certain disadvantages. The material does not ventilate the air well - especially for fabrics with a high content of man-made fibers. It also does not absorb moisture well or quickly enough, which can lead to skin irritation for consumers. Polycotton bedding builds up static electricity, which is why, like a magnet, small particles of debris and pet hair are attracted to their surface.

Jacquard

This is a material with a complex weaving technology, as a result of which wear-resistant fabrics with a dense texture are obtained.... Jacquard is made from different fibers: cotton, silk, bamboo, PVC threads and others.

Advantages of jacquard family sets:

  • high strength, which makes textiles durable;
  • hypoallergenic;
  • the ability to pass air and absorb moisture;
  • crease resistance;
  • no shrinkage during washing;
  • noble appearance.

The main disadvantage of jacquard is the price. The cost of jacquard "duets" can reach about 10,000 rubles.

Linen

Natural linen fiber textile, dense and durable. The canvases are made without the addition of synthetics and have all the advantages of environmentally friendly materials.

  1. Hypoallergenic. Bed linen will not irritate.
  2. Hygroscopicity. The material quickly removes excess moisture and dries quickly without disturbing the sleep of the rest.
  3. Good thermal conductivity and air permeability, due to which natural thermoregulation will not be disturbed: in the heat under such linen it will not be so hot, and in winter it will not be cold.
  4. The material does not accumulate static electricity.
  5. Retains external perfection for a long time: it does not roll up, does not fade.

The disadvantages include difficulty in ironing and easy creasing, shrinkage during the first wash, strong shedding of fabric on the cuts.

Other

Among Russian consumers, duets made of bamboo, tencel and percale are also popular. Bamboo models allow human skin to breathe, they quickly absorb moisture that has come out. Their surface has antibacterial properties that prevent the development of pathogens. Bamboo canvases do not electrify and do not accumulate odors. The disadvantage of bamboo duos is the high cost.

Tencel is a natural material made from eucalyptus fibers. Visually and to the touch, such canvases resemble silk. They are silky and durable despite being thin. These bedding sets are hygroscopic, hygienic and easy to clean.

Despite the numerous positive qualities, textiles from Tencel are not in great demand due to their high cost.

Percale bedding sets are cheaper than previous models, but the advantages of such sets are high. Natural cotton fabrics are lightweight and durable. They provide good air circulation and remove moisture. Compared to other cotton-based materials, percale is less hygroscopic.

Dimensions (edit)

The dimensions of bedding from different manufacturers vary slightly.

  • Pillowcases... The composition may contain 2 accessories for pillows 50x70 or 70x70 cm in size. There are sets with 4 pillowcases on sale, one pair of which has dimensions 70x70, the other 50x70 cm.
  • A pair of duvet covers... Manufacturers produce them in the following dimensions: 150x215, 145x215 or 160x200 cm.
  • Bed sheets... Their width ranges from 180 to 260 cm, and their length ranges from 200 to 280 cm.

For a convenient choice, manufacturers indicate the size of bed linen on the package - when buying, you need to take into account that most fabrics give a slight shrinkage when washed.

Design options

"Duets" differ not only in size, materials of manufacture, but also in appearance. The design of the models is striking in its variety. They are monochromatic: white, gray, yellow, pink, red.Textiles in soothing colors will help harmonize the atmosphere, but bright colors have a tonic effect and help you wake up faster.

Bed linen is striped, checkered, with geometric and floral ornaments, animalistic images, butterflies, fruits, feathers and other compositions. Expensive models are represented by "duets" with lace, frills and trendy 3D prints.

Themed kits are popular, for example, New Year's bedding. It can include snowflakes, pine branches, New Year's toys, and other Christmas attributes. Such sets will help create an atmosphere of celebration and immerse yourself in a festive mood.

Popular brands

"Duets" are made by many companies. Let's dwell on manufacturers with a good reputation, which offer products with a decent ratio of quality and value.

  • "Art Bed". Russian manufacturer from Ivanovo. Offers affordable, but high-quality sets in different designs: with floral prints, solid colors, with geometric patterns and other models.
  • TAS. Manufacturer from Turkey. Turkish bed linen has a varied line of models at an affordable price. Most of the "duets" are sewn from Egyptian cotton and other natural materials.

A wide range of family sets are also offered by Zara, Arya, Stiltex, Paisley, Verossa and other companies.

Selection Tips

There are several guidelines to follow when choosing bedding sets.

  1. The size... The dimensions of pillowcases, duvet covers and sheets must be suitable for the sleeping area, otherwise they will be uncomfortable to use.
  2. Quality... There should be no uneven lines, protruding threads or non-uniformly colored areas on the textiles. Such defects will tell you that the linen will not last long.
  3. Materials (edit)... Healthy and high-quality sleep is ensured by natural bedding sets or with a minimum amount of synthetic fibers.
  4. Design... The linen should match the appearance of the interior.

When choosing "duets" it is better to give preference to products from well-known manufacturers than to save money and buy cheap goods of dubious brands.
