1970s - the era of disco, wild curls, flared trousers and shirts with huge lapels. It was an eccentric decade, and its ideas had come back into fashion several times. And now clothes in the style of "boho" and "disco", shoes on a platform, hairstyles - parted, ponytails with a combed crown, small curls, "page" and "sessun" are relevant as never before.

And you can make them using modern styling products without harming your hair.

Characteristic features of hairstyles

If we talk about hairstyles that were fashionable in the West in the 70s, it is, of course, straight hippie-style hair held together by various kinds of feathers, straps, ribbons - at the beginning of the decade. Further, the world was captured by "disco" with dancing till you drop, cheerful music, bright outfits, iridescent disco balls, afro hairstyles, prints and flares.

Between the era of hippies and the era of disco, various styles were fashionable, including safari, romanticism, ethno, unisex with the main "chip" of the decade - jeans. They existed on their own and in symbiosis with others, penetrating and uniting their traits with them.

In the USSR, of course, all these trends also came. Fashion girls of the early 70s wore straight, loose hair - with or without bangs. They were parted or laid back, combing the top of the head and fixing the hair with a rim. After the fashion for "boyish" haircuts and "babette" in the 60s, long hair was a rarity, so their owners were provided with increased attention.

With the advent of disco style into fashion (including Soviet), hair began to frizz. "Babette" came back again both for short length and for all the others. Hair was cut with an even edge, there were no "ladders" and "cascades" yet. Round bangs with straight, laid in hair were still in vogue. The parting also did not give up: the strands were wound on both large and small curlers. Those with curly hair naturally wore the trendy Afro hairstyle.

At the same time, haircuts "page" and "gavroche", as well as "sessun" become relevant. All of them require straight strands from their owner, are easy to install and look very impressive. In addition, the sessun hairstyle is universal in the literal sense of the word, as it suits any type of face.

Moreover, the oval of the face can be corrected with this haircut: soften the "square" with a rounded bottom line, trim the "triangle" with bangs with elongated sides. The only type of women who do not want to choose such a hairstyle are “in-body” ladies, because the volume and round hairline will add unnecessary smoothness to the face and figure.

In the late 70s, bleached blond came into fashion. It became incredibly popular, however, hair dyes of that generation (especially clarifiers) did great harm to the hair, therefore, the strands often lost their attractive appearance and looked burned out, dull, or even looked like a loofah. It was as easy as shelling pears to "burn" hair with radical lightening, it was enough to overexpose the composition for several minutes, but this did not stop beauties who wanted to become blondes.

Modern hair lightening compositions are much more gentle, sometimes they do not contain ammonia. However, the radical white (and yellow) blond has long gone out of fashion, giving way to more complex shades.

Types of haircuts

Hairstyle "Sessun" is a haircut "under the cap", the bangs remain long, and the contours should be flawlessly even. Both the contours and the type of bangs in each case are different - taking into account the type of face, however, the principle of the haircut does not change - it has many levels and smooth, graduated ends of the hair, laid inward. The length of the "sessun" can vary, going down to the shoulder blades and scattering over the shoulders. Some fashionistas who chose this haircut had their hair reaching the waist.

The Gavroche haircut is suitable for both sexes. It may or may not be asymmetrical, for women with an ideal face oval, classic gavroche is suitable, and for those whose lines are slightly "floating", it is better to focus on asymmetry. This haircut is very suitable for girls with thin hair, it will visually add volume to them. It is performed on hair of any length. It goes well with fancy, bright coloring, makes the image bold and daring. "Gavroche" is, first of all, a cap of hair in the area of the crown. This way the required volume is achieved, the crown looks combed.

The pixie haircut was fashionable in the mid-1960s, but has not lost its relevance in the 1970s. For girls with thin facial features, such a hairstyle can be a real boon - it will accentuate the lines of the cheekbones and neck, the shape of the eyes, a beautiful chin, and well-defined lips.

"Pixie" has triumphantly returned to fashion several times. - each time slightly modified (in the 90s it was a symbiosis with the grunge style, in the 2000s - with the romantic), and now it is experiencing another wave of popularity among Hollywood stars and ordinary women.

Lovers of short hairstyles also liked the “wedge” developed in 1976. It was fashioned and popularized by Olympic figure skating champion Dorothy Hamill. The difference in haircuts is the triangular lines around the ears.

The emergence and development of rock music popularized the unisex style. Of course, hairstyles did not stand aside, for example, the fashionable "shag" that Jane Fonda showed in one of the films with her participation became a role model for both sexes. Further, on the basis of this haircut, other women's and men's hairstyles appeared - with more ragged and uneven lines, angular, aggressive. They were especially popular with punk and rock musicians.

Styling options

"Sessun" is the easiest to style - just dry clean hair with a hair dryer and a round brush, directing the ends inward, and that's it.On short hair, in order to give this haircut a shape, and you do not need a brush, a hair dryer will be enough. You can also curl the strands with the help of tongs or with curlers, but the "sessun" shape is so beautiful in itself that you may not want to. But all kinds of weaving are not for this haircut.

Graduated strands will constantly slip out from under your fingers and will not want to stay in a braid. In addition, "sessun" is so elegant, sophisticated and refined that any element that introduces casualness will look alien. This haircut is beautiful precisely for its clear lines, without additional decorations.

There is no need to lay the Gavroche at all; it is enough to dry it with a hairdryer. By ruffling the strands with your fingers and adding mousse or foam, you can create even more volume, but there is no urgent need for this, the haircut is voluminous in itself.

As for medium-length hair, boho styling and a ponytail are suitable for them. To make a messy boho hairstyle, the hair is either parted or pulled back. In the latter case, you can lightly comb the crown. The strands need to be tousled with your fingers, and then decorate with a leather forehead strap or a rim with flowers. If the hair is thick, you can supplement the composition with small braids and secure them with beads.

To create a stylish 70s ponytail, you need curling tongs and a hair straightener. The entire shock must be carefully combed into a smooth tail, fastened with a reliable elastic band, and in order to avoid the appearance of protruding short hairs, use gel or wax. The ends of the tail must be twisted into curls with tongs and fluffed properly. Further, the hairstyle can be decorated with a silk scarf.

This styling has many options - you can release one wide strand of hair and wrap the tail with it; you can make a fleece on the top of the head, and lower the tail itself to the back of the head, making it low; you can, on the contrary, raise it up (this option is called "fountain" among children).

Each face type has its own version of the ponytail hairstyle.

Romantic styling was equally popular in the 1970s. Large “waves” of hair, styled away from the face, have become iconic hairstyles for many actresses and pop stars. And since this kind of hairstyle gave femininity to any representative of the fair sex and was universal in terms of appropriateness, it was possible to appear with it both at work and at a holiday - the degree of its demand is difficult to underestimate.

Only the size of the waves varied - someone chose large ones, winding their hair on a curling iron, someone used curlers or hot rollers (those that needed to be boiled in a saucepan), and then the curls turned out to be smaller. The resulting mop (after all, no one will deny that curly hair is always more magnificent than straight) could be divided into a parting and fastened with hairpins or removed under a rim or silk scarf, combed back.
