Service professions are not an area of employment to be underestimated. Junior service personnel of household premises and other professions related to the service of people will be in demand for a very, very long time.

Therefore, it is necessary, along with the list of in-demand vacancies, to clarify the key practical requirements for candidates.

Peculiarities

The very phrase - professions in the service sector - is considered by many people to be a contemptuous label, something unworthy and accessible even to those who do not possess intellectual gifts or other talents. However, if you think about it, the situation changes radically. The service sector is growing rapidly, and in a number of states already tens of percent of the population work in it. In this sector, there are both commercial and non-commercial (government, public and even charitable organizations). Specific traits:

  • the elements of material production and sales are combined;
  • there are a large number of both large and small firms;
  • in terms of professional excellence, psychological aspects are more important than for most "material" spheres of activity;
  • dominance of small businesses;
  • high flexibility and adaptability of work;
  • the strongest dependence not only on demand, but also on seasonal and other rapidly changing factors;
  • dynamic development of the industry.

Primary requirements

The service sector, by default, implies direct contact with people, and sometimes with a large number of very different people at once. Therefore, those who do not know how to communicate, are unable to communicate politely and patiently, despite the very likely conflicts, there is no place in this area.Moreover, even sometimes deliberately provoking a conflict on the part of clients, employees must be able to recognize, reacting correctly to such situations. You cannot categorically insult someone or even “put in place effectively”; have to be delicate. But work in the service sector is constantly changing, and we still need to quickly master new skills, flexibly rebuild.

Additional important criteria for professionalism will be:

  • discipline;
  • a responsibility;
  • resourcefulness;
  • the ability to navigate in an unfamiliar place (for those who have to move frequently);
  • the ability to recognize the mood and motivations of others;
  • diligence;
  • the ability to allocate your time and effort to complete a large number of tasks at once during a shift or other period;
  • good memory, including faces, names, phone numbers and addresses will also be an added bonus.

Overview of in-demand professions

First of all, it is worth pointing out the younger service staff. This group of people includes those employees who are not directly involved in production or handling property for production purposes (such as industrial specialists). Junior service personnel are divided into two subgroups: one works in residential premises, the other - in industrial, service and auxiliary and administrative buildings. Administrators of hotels (hotels), hostels and other similar institutions are in high demand among tenants. Such employees:

  • register visitors and departures;
  • give orders to other personnel;
  • regulate conflict cases;
  • are responsible for room reservations, as well as for cancellation or transfer of reservations.

But among the professions associated with the field of consumer services, there are positions in the field of public catering. These include:

  • head waiter;
  • waiter (including the foreman of the waiters);
  • bartenders (including the foreman of bartenders);
  • sommelier;
  • cashiers;
  • barista;
  • barmen;
  • hostess;
  • sellers of culinary shops (departments), stalls and pavilions.

The service sector also includes general trade. This means that it includes:

  • controller-cashier.

Returning to the hotel industry, it is worth noting that it does not end there with administrators alone. In addition to them, the position of a senior administrator is also envisaged, who manages all shifts of performers. In more or less large hotels, the position of an accommodation specialist is provided. The reception and accommodation service also includes managers who make sure that all the necessary conditions are created for the visitors. The service sector also includes employees of beauty salons and cosmetology centers.

Hairdressers, manicurists and makeup artists will be in demand for decades to come. It is worth considering only that in courses and in official technical schools (colleges), they do not give the most relevant knowledge. True, as a basis for mastering the skill, they are quite sufficient. It is not so much education that is critical as mastery of a particular skill.

Another significant requirement is the willingness to constantly learn, follow fashion, develop and improve artistic taste.

Communication also belongs to the service sector. Therefore, postal workers can justifiably call themselves representatives of the service industry. Telephonists and those who ensure the uninterrupted operation of computer communication lines have the same function. In conclusion, it is worth pointing out the area of consumer services. It brings together a wide variety of people:

  • a tailor and a seam industrial climber;
  • a cleaner and a watchmaker-repairman;
  • dry cleaning employees and realtors;
  • auto mechanics and travel agents;
  • photographers and specialists in the repair of household equipment.

In addition to all of the above, the service sector also includes:

  • plumbers;
  • electricians;
  • insurers;
  • collectors;
  • plumbers;
  • heat supply, sewerage, gas network specialists;
  • technical support specialists;
  • scavengers;
  • forwarders.
