At the time of the onset of winter cold - frost, strong winds, snowstorms - dreams of warm clothes. At the same time, you want one in which it will not only be warm, but also cozy. One of the ideal options is considered clothing on natural insulation - bird down. Recently, down-padded blankets have been at the height of fashion, no matter how strange the comparison may seem.

What it is?

The peculiarity of down-padded blankets is in their volume and free, even wide cut. Often, a double-breasted cut is added to the freedom of fit, serving as additional protection, with which you can "fit" the jacket or coat in width. Since this type of down jacket is designed to protect against cold and wind, the models are sewn with large collars and hoods, with or without fur.

The collars are designed to serve as turn-down options or as large stands.

For the manufacture of down-padded blankets, they use not only the traditional raincoat fabric, but also other materials, the main requirement is elasticity and softness, as well as the ability to retain air, because the product must be "inflated".

A bit of history

This amazing type of clothing has gained popularity thanks to the designer Chantal Thomass. It was she who, in her time, turned the quilted coat into a trend, the puffy product into an iconic wardrobe item. At the request of the Moncler brand, Chantal has made changes to the proven technology of sewing standard "dutik". Tomass changed the zippers to buttons, the tight-fitting silhouette - to a shapeless one, in the form of a cocoon or a blanket, everyone's boring raincoat fabric - to more expensive, refined fabrics: satin, velvet, knitwear, double-sided fabric, etc.Sportswear and work wear were at the height of fashion, marching victoriously across continents and countries.

After a very short time, mentions of an updated type of quilted outerwear appeared in glossy magazines, thanks to which the whole world learned about down-filled blankets. In the 80s, they began to be spoken of as a must-have of the season, an indispensable part of a woman's wardrobe.

Thanks to the property of fashion to return "to square one", down-padded blankets are again talked about in our time, and now they are becoming even more popular than at the time of their appearance.

And now the time has come to listen to the research of fashion historians, for they argue that the first down jackets appeared in Russia as early as the 15th century, when light down-filled outerwear began to be imported from Asia. And only a century later, such clothes appeared in everyday life of the inhabitants of Norway. For production, King Christian IV organized a nursery for breeding polar ducks, whose down is still considered unsurpassed in terms of warmth and lightness.

After Eddie Bauer created and patented the Skyliner warm down jacket in 1940, down jackets have been on the production lines of the most famous sportswear manufacturers. In 1960, haute couture announced down jackets at the suggestion of the famous Yves Saint Laurent, who transformed a sports jacket into a stylish wardrobe item, making it elegant, sophisticated, fitted - puffy vests, tight-fitting coats. Several more decades passed, and in 1990 the French added glamor to the down jackets with the wonderful Lesage haute couture exhibition. And already in 1990, a new "explosion" of popularity followed - a snow-white oversized coat in the style of a down jacket-blanket saw the light.

The demand for down-padded blankets is explained not only by the fashion trend, but also by the incomparable convenience and comfort - lightness, softness and warmth.

Bulky down jackets are worn at social events and parties over evening dresses. Moreover, products can be completely different in length:

  • short;
  • knee length - midi;
  • long maxi models.

In addition to length, models can be double-sided - equally equivalent both on the front and on the seamy side, but made in a different color. Down blanket can be chosen in any color scheme, from discreet elegant to bright defiant shades. The former are more suitable for mature women, the latter are aimed at the audience of teenagers. The classic black version can always be found on sale, but it has not been as popular for a long time as at the end of the last century - the beginning of this century. For those who like dark tones, manufacturers offer a palette in olive, wine, gray with a metallic sheen.

Who is it for?

Unfortunately, the down comforter is the same type of clothing that does not look very good on full - a shapeless baggy silhouette makes the figure look more overweight than it actually is, so a large figure can turn into a caricature of a female silhouette.

Women with plus size parameters should be more careful when choosing a style, size, silhouette in clothes.

Such clothes do not look too good on girls of small stature. The ideal choice of a down comforter would be for a slim tall figure. In addition, this is a wonderful protection for a pregnant woman during a cold period - a loose fit does not interfere with a rounded tummy, and bird fluff reliably warms up at sub-zero temperatures.

Views

The fact that a down jacket is an irreplaceable thing in regions with a harsh climate is beyond doubt, and therefore trendsetters, designers, manufacturers are trying to make clothes beautiful and stylish. It should be noted that it is quite difficult to find more comfortable and warm clothing designed to protect against severe frosts.

A jacket or a blanket coat will appeal to fans of styles such as sporty, boho, vintage, casual, urban, etc. Even in a glamorous style, a universal blanket coat fits.

Deliberate formlessness is the "calling card" of winter outerwear such as a blanket-jacket. As a rule, these coats and jackets are sewn with large collars, which can be used to cover your face from strong winds, if you button them up, and worn in the form of a turn-down collar-apache. However, there are models with hoods and faux fur.

Fashion does not dictate restrictions on the length of blown products, so it all depends on personal preferences. For example, a short blanket jacket is more suitable for lovers of sports style, while those who prefer classic, boho or academic style will like the elongated version - midi or maxi. Of course, a lot depends on height - short models are more suitable for miniature women of fashion, and long ones for tall girls.

The market offers blanket models not only for women, but also for children, where the quality of the insulation is especially important - it is desirable that the fluff is from an Arctic bird, since it is warmer.

Quilted

The style of jackets and coats, complemented by decorative stitching, is not just more relevant. The presence of many lines does not allow the insulation to roll down, get lost in lumps. The stitches keep the filler evenly distributed. This technique further contributes to the retention of heat.

Asymmetrical

Asymmetry always attracts attention, especially when it is a thoughtful technique. A silhouette with an asymmetrically shaped hem can have an accent on the sides, from the back, an asymmetric oblique closure that goes into the collar.

Cocoons

Another fashionable trend of our time is a cocoon-shaped or oval silhouette.

Such a style can ideally hide some flaws, it will allow you to wear a sweater, a sweatshirt below, a warm jacket made of thick woolen yarn.

Oversize

Oversize - the so-called "off your shoulder" style. Comfortable and comfortable clothes with a loose fit, a voluminous silhouette, a deflated sleeve. Oversized also allows you to use multi-layered clothing in extreme cold, like a cocoon. In this case, it is necessary to competently use the accompanying accessories and clothing details.

To neutralize the "bulkiness" of the form, it is necessary to create a duet with tight-fitting jeans, skirts, model boots.

Hooded

A blanket jacket with a hood allows you to do without a hat, which many women of fashion are happy to use. If the hood is equipped with a fur edge, then this is a guarantee that the face will be safe even in severe frosts. Fur will save cheeks, forehead and nose from frostbite.

The hood can be one-piece or detachable (detachable), protrude in tandem with a jacket or coat, be free and wide or tight and laconic.

Bilateral

Reversible models are most often sewn from fabrics of contrasting, but monochromatic colors on both sides. However, there is a combination of monochrome with printed materials. Usually, such a down jacket is fastened with ties or zippers with a slider working on both sides.

Designers prefer to combine bright and pastel colors, dark cold and warm powdery shades.

Velvet

Jackets and coats covered with noble velvet became one of the most fashionable models of the last season. Particularly impressive are voluminous outerwear in deep dark tones, shimmering and shimmering. Pastels are also good, but they don't have such a deep play of shades.

Long down jacket-blanket

For frosty winters, the most correct choice would be long models of blanket coats, which reliably cover from the cold and wind. In the assortment, you can find cocoon-silhouette coats, trapezoidal, with a belt, if you want to accentuate the waist. In this case, you need to buy a product with a hood or a large collar.

Short jacket-blanket

Cropped models look perfect in a sporty style. A voluminous top helps to accentuate shoes, stylish trousers or slender legs. Colors can be casual, more subdued shades, or bright and catchy.

Drawstring

A blanket coat can be made not only with a traditional fastener, but also in a more decorative version - with ties. Most often, this solution is chosen for double-sided models. However, this is not always convenient, especially when it comes to elongated maxi options - after all, you have to spend time tying each pair of ribbons.

Fashion designers have found a way out. In order not to deprive the product of an effective accent, they have developed models with hidden additional zippers or buttons. The braid can be made in tone with the main fabric or contrasting, clearly visible.

Button-down

Buttons are still a popular type of fastener, despite technological advances - zippers, buttons of all kinds. But the production of buttons does not stand still, now there are so many types that some of them can become an independent decorative element.

For example, buttons made of Swarovski crystals, wooden buttons, buttons with rhinestones, etc.

Down jacket-blanket with fur

Fur decor is an integral part of winter clothing, but it is rarely used in blanket coats. In general, preference is given to collars and hoods made of the same fabric that was used for sewing the product. The explanation for this is the already sufficient number of models in question. If the jacket is made with fur inserts, then they are used along the edge of the hood, collar, sometimes on the sleeves. Artificial or natural furs are used as decoration - fox, mink, silver fox, etc.

Design

Down jacket-blanket - an attractive product that distinguishes its owner from the crowd... This is liked by those who like to be in the spotlight, who like bright accents in their own image. Today, bright colors are popular:

  • red and yellow;
  • mint, turquoise and blue.

Powdery and pastel colors:

  • peach, beige, pink;
  • white, pale blue, light lilac.

For those who are closer to restrained tones, or the color is selected for practical reasons, you can pay attention to darker shades, and many of them have their own charm:

  • marsala and gray;
  • purple and chocolate;
  • burgundy, emerald and silver shades.

This palette is as non-staining as it is black. Down jackets can be long, short, medium length, but much in the design depends on the style, fabric and finishing material.

How to choose?

Thanks to the advice of designers, it is easier for people to navigate in the choice of models and at the same time to correctly combine accessories. To be able to create your own bow, you must imagine that a branded down jacket is a versatile material. That is, a blank sheet, waiting to be applied with paints and bright strokes - you can do anything with it:

  • pick up to him the right shoes, which will emphasize the taste and sense of proportion of the owner;
  • select matching headdress or focus on the combined contrasts, texture, cut, style;
  • select the most suitable for the product clothes (jeans, trousers, dress or skirt) and accessories - a bag, gloves, jewelry.

The length of the down jacket must first of all be chosen, focusing on your own height and weight. No matter how much you want to have a long oversized coat, girls with a height below 165 centimeters should opt for cropped models of a not too voluminous silhouette. It is better to immediately abandon the cocoon and buy a more concise model.... If the height exceeds 170 cm, then this is an ideal option in which you can wear clothes of any length and silhouette.

Skinny petite girls look great in bulky jackets with a length above the thigh.

So that the big top does not create the impression of an ugly shapeless heap, one should not forget about sophisticated accessories and elements of clothing.

As for the "full-fledged" ladies with curvaceous shapes, they will have to choose a more elegant fitted silhouette with an accentuated waistline and shoulders.There is nothing to be done - a plump woman in a down blanket looks at least ridiculous, no matter how long it is.

To purchase expensive and high-quality models, you should contact branded boutiques and specialized shopping centers. The product can, of course, be bought on the market, but the quality will also be appropriate. The most interesting samples of various colors can be found in the collections of Carven, Stella McCartney, Acne, Couregges, Studios. There are also large models.

What to wear with?

With the right combination of clothes, shoes, accessories with a down-padded blanket, you can dress any girl fashionably and stylishly. In everyday wardrobe for this type of outerwear, it will always be possible to find suitable things, and for this it is not necessary to go shopping. You will almost certainly find tight jeans, over the knee boots or winter sneakers in the closet.

However, one must remember that a voluminous, almost shapeless top requires refinement in details, and then the image will be perfect.

If you have over the knee boots on your feet, then let them be stylish and fashionable, graceful and neat, but not in any way resemble the shoes of musketeers. If you bought a long blanket coat, and there is an intention to wear it with sneakers, then they should be combined with soft knitted trousers. When it comes to bags, then you can give free rein to your own desires, since fashion allows you to wear chic shoppers, youth backpacks and so on with a down jacket, depending on the general style.

What accessories and shoes are suitable?

Since the choice has been settled on voluminous blanket coats, the image cannot be overloaded - the model itself is a catchy and bright accent. Very few additional accessories are required.

Hats

Winter strongly dictates the mandatory presence of hats, but they should not be shaggy, large and bulky, like hats with earflaps made of fox, raccoon, silver fox. If we have earflaps, then from smooth fur, for example, mink.

An elongated beanie hat, knitted hats made of textured yarn with ties, ears, cuffs and without them, textile caps, fur or denim baseball caps look good with such down jackets.

Handbags

As already noted above, a large number of models of bags can be worn with a blanket coat, except for huge sports and household bags - this will not be comme il faut. Ideal for:

  • backpack, shopper;
  • cross body, chest bag, etc.

Suitable shoes for teenagers:

  • rough boots with tractor or flat soles;
  • massive sneakers, moon boots with thick wedges.

For women:

  • ankle boots with heels;
  • tall but elegant over the knee boots;
  • boots, ankle boots with high or low stable heels or solid soles.

Modern trends are very demanding, but inventiveness and a broad outlook significantly expand the established framework. In a word, a down coat with or without a belt allows you to include creativity, use the inclinations of a stylist, awaken the imagination, study the basic laws of style, get acquainted with the trends of the season, and delve into the world of haute couture. Feel like, after all, a trendsetter.

And also give yourself a chance to be not only beautiful, but also to take care of your own health, dressing warmly, comfortably and catchy.
