The profession of an SMM manager appeared in the 21st century. Due to the fact that she is so young, not everyone understands what tasks this specialist performs, and what can be required of him. The main task of an SMM manager is to promote a product or service on the Internet. But this does not only mean filling sites with various content and control over the settings in advertising. You need to understand that An SMM specialist must be a strategist capable of developing a plan for the comprehensive promotion of goods or services. It is important to take this into account both for the employer when forming the requirements for the vacancy, and for the employee when drawing up the resume.

What to write in the main paragraphs?

It should be noted that the number of professionals in SMM is growing, as the demand for services is also growing. Most advanced employers understand that a truly skilled worker cannot be cheap. That's why An SMM specialist should consider writing his resume in such a way as to sell his services as expensive as possible.... And for this it must contain reliable and comprehensive information about skills and abilities, and also be attractive to potential employers.

To write a resume for a specialist in SMM (no matter whether it is an experienced or a beginner), you need everything the same as for all other resumes: personal information, relevant experience, education, as well as a list of key skills and personality traits.

It is better if your resume is tailored for a specific job. Indicate the experience that you have, even the one that belongs to the period before digital. If you have worked in the field of education, then perhaps this is what will help you promote the services of a children's center or dance club. Any work experience you have is a strength that you need to be able to apply and take advantage of.

Even if it seems to you that there is no connection between SMM and the work of an accountant from your past life, this is not so - changing a profession does not mean a loss of previous skills.

If you have work experience, you need not only a resume, but also a portfolio. Recommendations for building a portfolio are as follows.

  • Please indicate brand, to whom you provided services.
  • Please indicate period cooperation.
  • Be sure to honestly and in detail describe, what did you do for the brand. You should not strive to ascribe unnecessary skills to yourself, this will sooner or later come to light, and you will find yourself in an unpleasant situation. It is better to attach links to those posts / contests / marathons that were created by you: you wrote texts, comments, processed information, came up with a concept, etc.

Many novice SMM specialists fill their portfolios with works that have not been ordered from them (the so-called fake portfolio). There is nothing wrong with this - on the contrary, looking at the quality of these works, a potential employer will appreciate the employee's skill. A fake portfolio means that it contains works that a person did not commissioned by brands, but on his own initiative.

For example, an SMM strategy for Tele2 or Tinkoff Bank. Despite the fact that the work was not carried out by order of the brand and it is impossible to assess how effectively it worked, you can look at the content and quality of the presented. So the employer gets an idea of the direction in which the applicant is working, and it either suits him, and then the person gets a job, or not.

If you have no experience, indicate it in your resume. In the additional information, you can give a link to your personal blog (if you write texts there, provide services) so that a potential employer gets an idea of how and in what manner you work.

In the "education" section, list all the courses you have completed, as well as webinars, marathons, and anything else that may be related to SMM. Of course, it is much better if each course taken is confirmed by a document.

In the "Skills" section, you must list everything that you can do in SMM:

  • creation and maintenance of pages on social networks, filling them with content;
  • developing a strategy for promoting goods and services, creating media and content plans;
  • promotion of a product or service in social networks;
  • development of creative special projects and competitions, marathons, webinars;
  • preparation of reports on account and promotion;
  • analysis of competitors' activity in social networks;
  • selection of other employees for the same purposes and control over their work;
  • monitoring and analysis of the information field, tracking industry news, trends and tendencies;
  • working on feedback with subscribers, service consumers or buyers of goods, engaging them in dialogue, maintaining activity on the social network: likes, comments, etc.

It is imperative to indicate on what platforms you worked with what programs and applications.

Errors

The first mistake newcomers to any industry make is the desire to add weight to their resume and, as a result, add facts that do not correspond to reality. We must not forget that everything secret becomes clear faster than we would like, and inaccurate information in the resume is no exception.

Better not to lie. Yes, perhaps this will become an obstacle to getting a high-paying job in the absence of experience, but this rule applies to representatives of any profession. To fill a portfolio, it is better to take inexpensive orders on freelance exchanges and fulfill them with high quality, and then reach larger clients, having a full-fledged portfolio in stock. None of the sections should go into unnecessary detail: everything should be clear, specific, readable and to the point.

Another mistake is the use of clichéd phrases and expressions like "learnability", "customer focus", "sociability" and others, passing from one resume to another. SMM presupposes a creative streak, and if a job seeker cannot get rid of clichés even on a resume, then the approach to work will be just as standard.

A rare employer wants to see traditional thinking and typical phrases in a specialist in this area. The resume should "catch" the eye and consciousness, so you should carefully consider the wording in it.
