Josef Högel, one of the many children of Austrian poverty-stricken children, went to his first job at the age of 14. He became an apprentice to a shoemaker who lived next door.

Having learned the very basics, Joseph could no longer stop. This craft penetrated deeply into the soul of a teenager and instilled in him the hope for his own business. However, it was not soon possible to start it. Continuing to learn all the intricacies of the shoemaker's profession, Högel traveled around the country, worked in a variety of shoe shops, adopting experience, honing his skills and looking for his own style.

In 1935, Högel buys a small house for himself, in which he arranges his own production. Having hired several workers to help himself, he begins hand-sewing women's shoes. According to Joseph himself, only the most talented and creative personalities from all over Austria worked with him, who had not yet managed to grab their piece of fame, but were very eager to do so.

The production expanded gradually. Shoes were bought and gained popularity in narrow circles of the Austrian province.

During the Second World War, the talented artist was drafted into the army. He was able to continue his skill only in 1943, upon returning from the front. It was then that the real breakthrough and personal "economic miracle" of the Hogl brand began.

Diligence, perseverance and desire for self-improvement.A small home workshop began to grow gradually and almost reached the size of a provincial factory, employing about 150 people.

The Austrian brand can be considered a family business, since the talented son of his father, Richard Högel, also had a hand in its success. He brought the brand to the world level, penetrating the markets of Europe, America and even the Soviet Union.
