Rapid descent from the mountain on a board on an untouched snow cover, frosty, fresh air overwhelming the lungs, adrenaline spreading throughout the body - this is a snowboard. The number of fans of this sport is increasing every year. Manufacturers produce shells of different sizes and models. Among this variety, everyone chooses a snowboard for themselves.

Table for adults

To enjoy snowboarding, you need to choose the right one. The most important criterion for choosing a sports equipment is size. For good stability and maneuverability of a snowboard, it is necessary that a person's weight is equally distributed over the surface of the board. In addition, snowboards are not cheap, so choosing the right board is better the first time so that you don't have to buy another one later.

You can choose the right snowboard by height by placing it next to the person. If the end of the board is between the chin and nose, this is the most suitable length for the sports equipment. The selection technique is simple, it is suitable for people of average weight and height, who ride on prepared tracks. You can calculate the length of the board by the weight of the snowboarder, depending on the gender of the rider:

  • the woman's weight is multiplied by 0.4 + 127 cm;
  • the weight of men is multiplied by 0.3 + 136 cm.

You can calculate the height of the athlete, for this you need to subtract 15 cm from the body height. The result is the base length of the snowboard.

There are few people with an ideal ratio of weight and height, therefore, for people with deviations in weight from the average, there are special tables by which you can determine the length of the board in relation to the mass of a person and his height.

The beautiful half of humanity does not lag behind men in the conquest of mountains. Women's snowboarding is becoming more and more common.Manufacturers produce special boards for women with a striking design. They are slightly lighter than men. Women, with the same height as men, weigh less.

In order to choose the right board for girls, it is necessary that its length in relation to the man's be at least 3 cm shorter.

How long to take a snowboard depends on many factors:

  • from the resting place;
  • riding style;
  • from the skill of the athlete;
  • on his height and weight.

Skating boards with different snowboard styles also come in different lengths. For freestyle, the board is taken shorter than 10 cm from the values indicated in the table. It depends on the level of the athlete, on the quality of the prepared track, the steepness of the descent. For beginners, it decreases within 4 cm. For those who like to ride on fresh snow - freeriders - the board should be 5 cm longer than the base one in order to stay on top of the "powder". For vacationers descending from the knurled trails, snowboards with a basic size are suitable.

Choosing a size for kids

When choosing the size of a snowboard for children, be sure to remember that you cannot buy long boards designed for several years. It is difficult for a child to control them: he will lose interest in an exciting sport. Parents themselves decide at what age to put the child on the snowboard. It is unlikely that before the age of 7 years, a baby will learn to ride a projectile well. But you can feel the board, learn to stand correctly, and ride it starting from the age of 3. At this age, children ride on boards with low rigidity, with a deflection in both directions. A rope is attached to the projectile, for which adults pull the baby along the flat snow.

The child is under the constant supervision of his parents and learns to stand on the apparatus without falling. For such children, a board no higher than 80 cm is suitable. A six-year-old child begins to ride on his own, tries to make different turns and go down small slides. It is growing rapidly, so you will have to buy a snowboard in a season. The length of the projectile should be such that it is comfortable to slide on it. It should reach the baby approximately to the breast. If he has learned how to ride a board well, confidently descends a slide, makes turns, then its length can be increased to the nose.

For a more accurate choice of the size of a snowboard for children, one must take into account their height and weight.

Recommended board length for children of different ages (in cm):

Child parameters (age, height, weight) Board length (in cm)
up to 3 years 80
4 years old, weighing up to 16 kg and height 104 cm 80-90
5 years old, weighing up to 18 kg and height up to 109 cm 85-95
6 years old, weighing up to 23 kg and height up to 114 cm 90-100
7 years old, weight - 23 kg, height - up to 119 cm 95-105
8 years old, weight - up to 26 kg, height - 127 cm 100-110
9 years old, weight - up to 29 kg, height - up to 135 cm 105-120
10 years old, weight - up to 32 kg, height - up to 140 cm 110-125
11 years old, weight - 36 kg, height - 145 cm 115-130
12 years old, weight - up to 41 kg, height - 150 cm 125-135
13 years old, weight - up to 46 kg, height - 155 cm 130-145
adolescents weighing over 50 kg and taller than 160 cm 140-150

For a child with a thick build, it is better to choose a board equal to his height so that the weight can be evenly distributed over the snowboard. For a slender child, a sports equipment shorter than the expected length for his age is suitable. For children, you can choose shorter boards. They are easier to control, and the child will quickly learn not only to slide on them, but also to perform complex movements inherent in a snowboard.

Selection features

Choosing a snowboard by height and weight is the first part of the task. To find the individual length of the board, there are selection rules according to various criteria:

  • growth minus 15 centimeters;
  • we take into account the weight: above the average - add 5 cm, below the average - subtract 5, with a mass over 100 kg, the length of the board is more than 160 centimeters;
  • skill level: beginner - minus 9 cm, intermediate level - subtract 5;
  • place for snowboarding: in the mountains, on prepared tracks - plus 9 centimeters, on hills - minus 2, on untouched snow - plus 5, in the park, in specially prepared places - minus 4;
  • riding style: freestyle - minus 4 cm, freeride - plus 5.

Let's consider, using an example, how to calculate the size for a snowboarder with an average skill level, with a height of 170 cm, weighing 75 kg, doing freestyle on the mountain (in cm):

  • 170 - 15 = 155 (height);
  • 155 + 5 = 160 (weight, above average);
  • 160 - 5 = 155 (skill level);
  • 155 + 9 = 164 (place);
  • 164 - 4 = 160 (style).

As a result, we found that an athlete needs a 160 cm long snowboard. You can find out the length of a sports equipment suitable for a snowboarder from the tables produced by manufacturers for each board model. This is done to make it easier to choose a snowboard, especially for beginners. Experienced riders know from experience their individual snowboard size.
