Greyhound

These animals are the fastest dogs in the world, their running speed reaches 72 km / h, they have been holding the championship for quite some time. The breed belongs to one of the oldest and is characterized by a rather large size, but despite this, they look very graceful. These English greyhounds have all the characteristic characteristics of the species: a narrow head, elongated neck and limbs, a deep chest, a slender build and a smooth coat. The coat can be of different colors.

A distinctive feature of the breed is laziness, which is unusual for greyhounds, but it also makes a wonderful companion out of the dog.

Greyhounds have a stable psyche and excellent health. With proper care, they can live to be 15 years old, while retaining all their abilities, and speed in particular. The high-speed mode of the representatives of the breed allows them to be classified into two categories at once: hunting and sports.

Saluki or Persian greyhound

Many believe that the breed is more resilient than the Greyhounds, as it has no equal in long-distance running.The color of animals can be varied, with a height at the withers of 60–70 cm, they weigh 18–27 kg. The coat of the saluki can be smooth-haired or long-haired. Characteristic features of the breed include an elongated muzzle, large hanging ears and a graceful constitution.

Belongs to the breed of greyhounds and is used for hunting medium and small animals. The character of the dog is calm, balanced, treats children well, but with caution towards strangers.

Afghan Hound

Animals can reach 60–64 km / h. The closest relative of the breed is the Saluki. Dogs adapt well to cold mountain climates. Azawaki or African greyhounds

These graceful hunters are capable of running at a speed of about 60 km / h. Greyhounds grow in height up to 70 cm, but the maximum weight is only 25 kg. Thin, but muscular body and long, powerful legs make it easy to catch up with any game.

Due to their thin skin, they do not tolerate cold weather.

Jack Russell Terrier

Despite its small size, the dog is quite nimble, runs up to 61 km / h. They were mainly used for hunting foxes. With a height of 25–38 cm, the body weight of the dog is 6.5–8 kg. The coat of animals is white with brown spots. This breed has representatives of both smooth-haired and coarse long hair.

Dalmatian

These cute dogs are also very fast, their maximum speed is 60 km / h. Dalmatians differ from other breeds in spectacular color: white short hair is abundantly strewn with black or brown spots. The height of the animals is 44–57 cm, and the weight is from 7 to 19 kg.

The maximum speed that this dog can develop is 51.5 km / h. The breed belongs to security and, in addition to speed, also possesses quick wits. The average growth rate of Dobermans is about 70 cm, and weigh from 32 kg to 45 kg.The color is dominated by black or red with the presence of red spots on the face, chest and limbs.

Border Collie

The breed belongs to the herding in the past, therefore it has energy and agility. Their running speed is up to 48 km / h. The build is medium, but strong with a height of 45–56 cm. Long, dense coat is often white or black, but there are other colors. The breed is characterized by well-developed intelligence and quick wit.

Poodle

Oddly enough, these cute dogs are also good at running. Representatives of the standard type can drive up to 48 km / h. The breed was bred for hunting ducks, therefore, in addition to speed, it also has excellent characteristics of a swimmer. Curly wool is distinguished by its density and variety of colors. The body of the animal has a square shape, the head is medium with hanging ears.

The average height of the animal is about 38 cm.

German Shepherd

The original purpose of the breed is to help herd sheep. Now they are used more in the police, army and as security guards. A distinctive feature of the breed is a heightened sense of smell, therefore, dogs are used to search for people during rescue operations, to identify drugs or explosives. Under these circumstances, running speed is very important, and in shepherd dogs it is up to 48 km / h. The animals are of average size, with a height of 56–66 cm, they can weigh from 22 to 40 kg.

The head of the breed is elongated, with straight triangular ears, the tail is slightly curved. The dense coat, as a rule, has a black and red color.

Deerhound or Scottish Deer Greyhound

The breed was originally intended for hunting deer and roe deer. When running, it develops a speed of up to 45 km / h. In appearance, the greyhound is similar to the Greyhound, but differs in a harsh coat. The head, neck and trunk are covered with longer hair, and on the chest and belly it has a softer structure. The breed is characterized by a sufficient height - 71–81 cm, and the weight can vary from 33 to 60 kg.

The color is dominated by gray and gray-blue shades, although other colors are often found.

Giant schnauzer

A dog appeared in Bavaria, used as a watchman and shepherd. When running, it can reach up to 45 km / h. The breed is distinguished by intelligence, balanced character and special devotion to the owner. The growth of the animal is on average 60–70 cm. The body has a somewhat square shape, the coat is rather thick and hard.

Dogs are most often black in color, although sometimes it can have different shades of gray.

Italian Greyhound or Small Italian Hound

Animals run at an average speed of 40 km / h, although some sources bring this figure to 50 km / h... Since ancient times, these animals have been valued as companions, most of all attracted by their elegance and grace, as well as light disposition and rather high intelligence. The dimensions of the representatives of the breed are small: height - 33-38 cm, weight - 3.6-3.8 kg. Italian greyhounds belong to smooth-haired dogs, the color can be either one-color or two-color or even brindle.

Husky

Representatives of the breed cannot be compared in speed with greyhounds, but even champions can envy their incredible endurance and efficiency. Huskies can run at a speed of 45 km / h while carrying a load without stopping. Often distance exceeds 500 km. The dogs are of medium size, the coat is very thick, the color is white with gray or brown. The maximum height of the animal is 60 cm, and the weight is about 28 kg.
