Mestizo are a special kind of dog. They are not purebred and are not mongrels. From the look of a newborn puppy, it is impossible to predict which breed of genes will dominate in it.

What it is?

Mestizos are puppies from parents of different breeds. They appear for several reasons.

  • When the owner did not follow the dog, and there was an accidental mating. Animals can take on the character and appearance of both parents. The result is unpredictable and it is not worth paying money for such puppies, they are given "into good hands."
  • The deliberate work of breeders on crossing different breeds of dogs in order to improve their conformation, working qualities, physical, mental and mental capabilities. These puppies are called "designer breed", some of them cost a lot of money. The result of the work can be a puppy whose genotype consists of three, four or even five types of DNA of its pedigree ancestors.

The process of mixing different species to obtain new qualities is called "interbreeding outbreeding" and has fourteen centuries. People have long deliberately bred dogs for hunting, guarding, or just for fun. In the latter case, we have breeds of decorative dogs, on the origin of which our ancestors still labored.

Metis should not be confused with mongrels. They are children of titled parents, in their exterior, the breed of one of the ancestors or both at once should be visible.

If this does not happen, the puppies are called mongrels. In random hybrids, the appearance resembles wild dogs: a strong body, sturdy muscular legs, a donut tail, ears upright.

    Colors can be very different, taken from one of the parents or mixed. For example, a Pomeranian may well look like a red fox-type Pomeranian, only a mask on the face will give away the ancestors of a husky. Achieving a rare color, breeders mixed Weimaraner and Labrador, got a mestizo with silver wool. Tolmatians are unusual mestizos, they are endowed with a beautiful spotted color of Dalmatians, but have a small, slightly elongated body, similar to a dachshund. Horgi can be found with husky coloration and mask and long corgi hair.

    Mestizos have many positive qualities. Mixing blood leads to its renewal. In most cases, babies are born in good health. Hereditary diseases of pedigree parents bypass them. And the psyche of such dogs is more stable. Most often mestizos are smart and friendly, but there are exceptions.

    Character

    It is impossible to predict the behavioral line of mestizo, they can take the traits of both parents. But they have every chance of getting the best from their ancestors. If outbreeding is done by professional breeders, in addition to the exterior, they will also be interested in working opportunities. For example, if you want to see a dog that is not too big in an apartment, but with protective qualities, for this, poodles are mixed with breeds of guard dogs. Most often it turns out to be an intelligent, loyal medium-sized dog. She will not bark at guests, but she will not let the stranger out of the house. There are exceptions to the rule when a huge kind-hearted person grows up in a cramped apartment. He will not bark, even if all things are taken out of the house.

    In most cases half-breeds are quite adequate dogs, not aggressive and sociable... But some hybrids require special education. For example, hybrids of small breeds are too timid or, on the contrary, do not know fear, bully to large dogs. And mestizo large guard dogs are difficult to train, their education should be dealt with from childhood.

    Each hybrid exhibits its own qualities that are characteristic of both breeds, namely:

    • if you mix husky and corgi, dogs will be kind, intelligent, they follow the commands of the owner well;
    • bloodsors (a cross between a bloodhound and a Moscow watchdog) hardy, smart, endowed with a keen sense of smell, they can play the role of service and guard dogs;
    • pitski (pitbull and husky) infinitely loyal to their master and kind, but they got a willful disposition from the husky, which can only be corrected by good upbringing;
    • tolmatians - are good-natured and cheerful, but if the genes of the Dalmatian take over, mestizos may not be too smart or stubborn.

    All flaws in the character of a half-breed can be corrected by persistent and correct education. It is more difficult to do this if the dog got in adulthood from unknown owners.

    Advantages and disadvantages

    Mestizos are amazing animals, unlike purebred dogs, their exterior is always individual, in each of them the nobility of their ancestors is guessed. The advantages of these animals include the following:

    • good immunity, absence of hereditary diseases;
    • they have no mental disabilities;
    • mestizos are most often friendly, agreeable and sociable;
    • their maternal instinct is more developed than that of some pedigree breeds; they nurture and nurture their puppies responsibly;
    • hybrids do not require special care and nutrition;
    • adapt well to new conditions;
    • their cost (if they are not designer breeds) is low.

      Mestizos also have such disadvantages as:

      • the result of mixing is always unpredictable, it is difficult to know in advance the size and temperament of the pet;
      • a mestizo who has a strong resemblance to one of their parents can be passed off as a purebred puppy;
      • hybrids do not have pedigree and documents;
      • they do not participate in exhibitions.

      Varieties

        There are hundreds of dog breeds on the planet. If you mix them together, you get thousands of species of mestizo. But there are not so many design hybrids.Breeders try to avoid accidental mating. A hybrid created by a professional carries the improved qualities of its parents, sometimes interesting and strange looks are obtained. Consider the descriptions of the most popular mestizos.

        • Labradoodle. A cross between a Labrador and a Poodle became the first hybrid, the so-called designer breed, which was bred in 1988 on purpose to improve performance. The Australian Guide Dog Society received an order from a blind woman whose husband was allergic to wool. We needed a guide with hypoallergenic properties. Poodles possess such hair, they began to be crossed with Labrador retrievers, dogs with excellent qualities of guide.

        The result is a loyal, friendly mestizo with hypoallergenic fur, endowed with high intelligence.

        • German Shar Pei. Outwardly, he looks like a Shar Pei, only large and with the color of a German shepherd. On an elongated muzzle there may be folds, ears are erect. I took the best from my parents - intelligence, devotion, love for my family. The pet can be overly independent and not too trusting of strangers.
        • Basset drink. This half-breed is a descendant of Shar Pei and Basset Hound. It is a very cute little animal with folded skin like a Shar Pei, small ears and beautiful eyes. Pets with character, a little headstrong, independent and smart. They have a keen charm and are wary of strangers.
        • Pomski... The union of the Pomeranian and Husky is called Pomski. Dogs are cute, with rich hair, beautiful color. They are small in size and are good for keeping in an apartment, provided there is sufficient walking distance. This is a cheerful dog who adores children and active games. He is quick-witted and completely non-aggressive.

        Because of the ease with which they learn, they are often used for filming. The cost of such a dog may exceed the price of its pedigree parents.

        • Horghi. A very pretty mestizo. His parents were dogs of the husky and corgi breeds. The dog has a small stature, a balanced physique, a beautiful coat color and a kind of blue iris of the eyes. Savvy, inquisitive dog, playful and friendly. If he has nothing to do, he can dig holes and cause a commotion in the house.
        • Siberian Retriever. It is about a cross between a golden Labrador retriever (Golden) and a Siberian husky. With an equal set of genes from both parents, the puppy has a double fur color - chocolate with the addition of white. If the genes are folded differently, the coat color repeats the color of one of the parents. Mestizos have sky blue eyes. Dogs swim well and are consummate hunters. They are smart, restless, one might say, too energetic. They need a long walk with physical activity.
        • Labski. The parents of this mestizo are also Labrador and Husky. Outwardly, the appearance of the dog is very impressive, since the genes of the Siberian prevail in the exterior, it looks like a wolf. Without good upbringing from puppyhood, it will be difficult to cope with the dog, he is savvy and on his own mind, wayward, with the claims of the leader. From childhood, he will have to explain who is the boss.

        During a walk, the dog is prohibited from walking in front of the owner, and the manifestation of self-will is controlled. Such a mestizo is not for beginners.

        • Utonagan or Northern Inuit. Different breeds were involved in the creation of this hybrid: German Shepherd, Malamute, Husky and others. The hybrid looks like a white wolf. He is handsome, hardy, very strong, has Siberian health. Hereditary diseases have not been identified at all, can live for more than fifteen years.
        • Shepski. It is a mixture of a shepherd dog and a husky. Metis has good guarding qualities, but does not know a sense of proportion. If he feels the slightest threat, he can attack. Shepski should not be left alone with children or guests. They are settled in open-air cages, even cold winters will be comfortable for them. But dogs need daily walking.

        Metis is best kept by dog handlers or experienced dog breeders.

        • Haskimo. The parents of the mestizo were the Eskimo and Husky. The Haskimo has a soft, good-natured disposition, but the dog is overly curious and prone to pranks, in order to extinguish his energy, he needs many hours of daily walks.

        Content

        Mestizos are of different purposes. Decorative species live in apartment conditions, but many dogs are created for life in enclosures. They have guard, fighting or detective qualities. By creating hybrids, breeders achieve endurance and good adaptation of animals to the external climatic environment. Domestic dogs need outdoor walks, they should be played with, loaded with training.

        For lazy owners, there are species of small mestizos that do not need daily walking, they use a cat litter box or absorbent diaper for the toilet.

        Hybrids do not need to create special conditions of detention. They need their own corner with warm bedding and no drafts, clean bowls for eating and drinking, special toys designed for dogs. If the mestizo is endowed with long hair, it should be combed out. Bathing dogs is necessary as it gets dirty. After walking on the street, you need to check the pet for ticks, look through the eyes and ears in order to exclude inflammation and suppuration in time. Psam periodically follows brush your teeth. If, during the walk, the pet's claws do not grind off in a natural way, they should cut periodically.

        As for health, mestizos rarely complain about it, since they have enviable immunity and do without hereditary diseases. But this does not mean that the dog does not need hygienic care. Vaccinations and check-ups by a veterinarian are essential for all dogs. Infectious diseases through close contact with a sick animal can be picked up, even with strong immunity.

        With proper care, hybrids almost do not suffer from allergies and live longer than purebred dogs.

        Feeding

        Mestizos are picky about food, they do not need special food, but the master's dishes with excess fat and spices will not bring any benefit. Chicken bones can cut any dog's mouth. It is better for them to cook porridge with the addition of vegetables, meat and fish products. When composing a pet's diet, you should take into account its age and weight, as well as physical activity. For active healthy growth of the puppy his nutrition should consist of 30-40 percent protein, energy will be provided by the presence of carbohydrates.

        The menu may include special food for dogs, they are fully balanced. But if the dog eats natural food, it is enriched with supplements of vitamins and minerals.

        Training

        Most mestizos lend themselves well to training, some difficulties may arise with hybrids, in the creation of which the huskies participated. They often show independence and willfulness, and should be dealt with from an early age. Half-breeds are smarter than their pedigree parents. If you start training your puppy at three months old, you can achieve amazing results. Knowing the parents of the mestizo, dog handlers focus on their behavioral lines, forming obedience, good nature, sociability and other necessary qualities in the pet.

        Mixing breeds causes significant changes in the character of the mestizo. A cross between a good-natured Labrador retriever with guard or fighting dogs changes their temper to aggressive. In such cases good parenting is essential.

        Metis are pets with an original appearance, good health and improved qualities of their parents. They are unpretentious in content, loyal and, with the right upbringing, will become ideal pets.
