From the earliest years of life, we know that it was dogs that were the first domesticated animals, and for several millennia they have remained reliable friends of people. Nowadays, about 400 breeds are officially recognized - in all this diversity, a group of strong and hardy dogs stands apart. They will be discussed in our article.

Peculiarities

Some people believe that it is dangerous to live under the same roof with large and strong dogs, and caring for them is a lot of hassle. In addition, it is believed that representatives of such breeds do not differ in longevity, since they are prone to injuries, including fatal ones, and they are also characterized by pathologies of the hip joint.

Despite the great strength, these breeds are very popular. This is explained by in practice, the danger of such animals is seriously exaggerated - a lot here depends on the upbringing of the dog.

With proper training and a competent attitude towards a pet, even the most formidable dog will become a good friend to a baby and a reliable companion to an elderly person.

Such dogs are very agile and dexterous, they like to take part in active games and therefore will gladly accompany their sports owner.

Keeping strong dogs has both pros and cons.

Let's start with the benefits.

  1. Most strong dogs are docile. They are intelligent, obedient and in everyday life they show exceptional friendliness. If you engage in the correct upbringing and training of an animal from early childhood, you can get a very well-mannered dog.
  2. Strong dogs are excellent guards, if their owner or his property is in danger, without hesitation, they will rush to their protection, even if there is a larger enemy in front of them.
  3. Strong dogs treat children well. But keep in mind that joint games of a child with such a dog should take place exclusively in the presence of an adult. The fact is that, playing too much, the dog may not calculate its strength and harm the baby.

These animals also have their disadvantages:

  • strong dogs require professional training and proper maintenance - and this usually takes a lot of money, so you have to prepare for the expenses;
  • the life expectancy of such pets is always lower than that of smaller and weaker breeds.

In accordance with the law of most countries, such dogs are allowed to be walked only on a leash and must be muzzled.

  • Barbara Allens Dark. This girl of the Newfoundland breed, two years later, repeated the feat of her predecessor, dragging a load weighing 2,289 tons over the same distance. Of course, this is a little less than Reiter Brandy Bear's achievement, but let's write it down to the floor of the dog. How to choose?

There are no special criteria for choosing the strongest dogs - it is important just to understand which breed you like, and what other features of the strongest dogs are best suited to your character, lifestyle and living conditions.

In addition to the breed, there are several other factors to consider.

  • Pet sizes... If you need a dog as a guard and protector, then it is advisable to give preference to dogs whose height at the withers is 60 cm and above. For the protection of people and the house, it is important that the dog is not only strong, but also massive.
  • The weight of the dog. Optimally, your pet weighs approximately 50 kg. In general, this parameter is not particularly fundamental, but for protection it is desirable that a strong and cute dog could easily knock the attacker down.
  • Character. It is imperative to take into account the disposition that your future pet will possess. If, for example, you intend to get a well-bred and intelligent dog, then you should pay attention to Dobermans - you don't even have to spend too much effort on training it. And with dogs like the husky, you have to tinker before turning a mischievous puppy into a trained dog.

Basic rules of maintenance and education

Many people are afraid to have dogs that are ranked as the strongest on the planet, as they often cause a sense of fear and danger. Therefore, you need to understand that raising such an animal should be dealt with from a very early age, and it is desirable to entrust this matter to a professional.

In addition to training, great attention should be paid to the peculiarities of keeping such dogs. For example, a mastiff or St. Bernard can only be bred in a private house with a large adjacent territory, where the dog will walk and warm up. Keeping such animals in apartments will be a mistake, since they need constant physical activity. When the load is not enough, the animal may start to wither or become embittered. And overweight is not excluded, which significantly impairs the work of the cardiovascular system and shortens the life of the pet.

If the animal is smaller, then it is possible to keep it in the apartment, but at the same time it will need daily walking. It is advisable to take the dog out 2 times a day for 1.5-2 hours.

At the same time, walking should be active, it is best to spend time on specially equipped areas for dogs, in addition, the animal may well become an excellent companion during morning jogging and cycling.

In all other respects, the recommendations for keeping such animals are similar to caring for dogs of other breeds, namely:

  • The hair of animals should be combed 2-3 times a week; during the molting period, this should be done daily;
  • the ears and eyes of the animal should be kept clean;
  • once a week, you should brush the dogs' teeth, and also give the pets a treat made from beef veins - this will strengthen the jaws, and at the same time relieve the dogs of tartar;
  • if the dog walks mostly on soft ground, the nails should be trimmed periodically.

With regard to feeding, natural or holistic food is preferable. These dogs consume a lot of energy, so they need a quality and balanced diet so that they can maintain the required level of their activity.
