A carpet is an interior element that has gone through a variety of stages of recognition, from the peak of fashion to complete denial. But if the attitude towards products on the walls can be twofold, then floor coverings are still more familiar. Especially in the bedroom, where comfort, tranquility, warmth should be felt as much as possible.

Features and functions

Whether or not to buy a carpet for the bedroom is a question that can generate controversy in the family. And yet the majority is inclined to think that he should be in this room. Pleasant tactile sensations, the need to often walk barefoot, visual softening of the interior - all speak in favor of the carpet.

The carpet in the bedroom has the following functions.

  • Noise isolation. Carpets are excellent noise absorbers, and this characteristic is especially important in a sleeping and resting room.
  • Cold protection. In winter, it is more pleasant to walk on a warm floor, and insulation is the function of a carpet.
  • Interior perfection. Sometimes, without this element, the room is visually empty, you want to make it more comfortable, to balance the decorative elements.
  • Convenience in cleaning. If you do not have the best laminate flooring, which needs to be washed and rubbed with special means every day so that it does not look dirty and faded, it is better to hide such a coating at least partially. It is enough to vacuum in the morning, and the floor looks perfect.

And if you buy a quality wool rug, give your feet a natural massage. The villi gently massage the feet, which has a good effect on blood circulation, the general tone of the body. And even the presence of a natural covering in the room has a positive effect on the prevention of the incidence of colds. Finally, the carpet is not a very expensive piece of furniture (unless, of course, you are staring at luxury goods or rare things).

You can always find the best option for any wallet that will decorate your home, make the bedroom even more comfortable and warm.

Materials (edit)

And here there is something to think about, to thoroughly study the composition of the proposed purchase. The product should be convenient to use, as environmentally friendly as possible, not particularly difficult to clean - such requirements are natural, and they are the basis of the choice today.

And there is plenty to choose from.

  • Propylene. There is little environmental friendliness in this option, since it is a synthetic product associated with oil refining. Such carpets rarely appear in the bedroom, they have low wear resistance and they do not lend themselves very well to vacuuming. But the option is cheap and affordable, although it is least suitable for the bedroom.
  • Durable nylon. From this material, flexible and durable carpets are obtained. They have a knitted base, they have a long service life, since manufacturers use the technology of simultaneous weaving of the pile and the base.
  • Wool. The best option, without a doubt, is natural and durable, they can decorate the interior for more than a decade. Such models are not cheap, but the price is justified. A woolen carpet will fit into virtually any interior. True, they quickly get dirty and react negatively to moisture.
  • Silk. A very expensive option, but also the highest quality. True, such products are not actually purchased in a standard apartment.
  • Viscose. It is a kind of alternative to silk carpet. Soft and tactilely pleasant material does its job perfectly. The price is much cheaper than silk.
  • Nylon. The coverings are strong and durable, resistant to fire.
  • Polyester. These rugs will also last a long time, the price is affordable, and the design features a wide variety of colors and prints.
  • Jute. Today's popular jute rugs are inexpensive, easy to clean and very durable. But jute products are afraid of water, after getting wet they shrink.

We should also mention the mat. This is the name for dense napless loop carpets made from natural plant fibers (for example, from rice, flax, sisal, reed). The mats have a rather trivial look, but the interweaving of threads of different thicknesses and textures creates an interesting visualization. Usually mats are used to decorate a country house, for a bedroom in the country - this is a good option.

Cotton coatings are especially popular today: they are distinguished by high thermal conductivity, they perfectly absorb moisture, have good ventilation and can be perfectly cleaned. True, cotton is not suitable for those with allergies in the bedroom.

Shape and dimensions

The size should correlate with the parameters of the bedroom. Small carpets are coverings with an area of no more than 3 square meters, medium-sized carpets with an area of 3-6 squares, large - from 6 meters. If you decide that the bedroom must have a large carpet, from 2.5 m wide, try to opt for a covering of soothing colors, preferably without patterns (or with a blurry, unobtrusive print). Such products are located under all furniture in the room.

Medium carpets logically and concisely highlight a certain area in the bedroom - for example, a dressing table. Small carpets mostly serve as color contrasts or additions. They are good at helping to highlight the right colors in the bedroom. As for the shape, the classic options are rectangle and square. Other shapes (and oval carpets too) are used to a greater extent to place interior accents. Oval carpets are great at highlighting the mirror area. Carpets can accentuate a certain piece of furniture: for example, they can repeat the shape of a corner sofa or a table.

Attention! If you are interested in Feng Shui, then oval and round carpets, according to this philosophy, bring peace and spirituality into the room, harmonize the atmosphere in it.

Colors

Almost always, the element is selected using the contrast method: it should not merge with the floor. If the carpet and floor merge, the whole picture of the horizontal line of the room is smeared. The following guidelines apply for bedroom carpet color.

  • For a good rest in the bedroom, an environment should be created without any external stimuli. Therefore, calm and bright colors of carpets are optimal. They have a positive effect on the psyche, help to calm down.
  • If the room is made in black and white, graphic colors, and it seems unfinished to you, you can safely choose a bright carpet - for example, crimson.
  • It so happens that the curtains, the covering on the bed, the color of the furniture coincide, that everything merges into one color spot, which makes it look uncomfortable. A carpet of a contrasting color can save this situation. It visually separates the levels, brings order and stability to the interior.
  • Carpet can enhance the main color scheme of the bedroom - for this, think about what it will be a companion for (curtains, decorative pillows, etc.).

If you have furniture in beige, wood shades in your bedroom, and the walls are blue, then you can safely take the carpet to match the walls. It can be a plain blue finish, or a model with a not very bright beige print.

How to choose?

Today, interior fashion is turned to handicraft more than ever. A new wave of popularity is associated with macrame, a lot of wood, textiles, rope design, etc. appear in interiors again. This also applies to carpets! Wicker (knitted) rugs are in great demand. They can be weaved from different materials: by bending the knots around the base thread, a nice pattern is obtained.

Rugs are woven by the hostesses themselves: cut knitwear into stripes and weave small, very comfortable, washable rugs according to the grandmother's way. They will look great in scandi, boho, country, provence interiors, etc.

To find the perfect carpet for your bedroom, ask yourself the following questions:

  • What role do I want to play the carpet in the bedroom? If key, don't even consider undersized coatings.
  • Do I like a long pile or a smooth finish? If the pile should be present, a large selection opens up here: models can be long-haired, medium-haired, short-haired. The pile itself is structurally different (for example, the frieze pile is a twisted version, and velor is cut loops).
  • Do I need to allocate a zone and which one specifically? If you want a modest bedside rug, it shouldn't go beyond the outline of the bed. If you like the closet rug, it might not be the right shape. Think about where the carpet is more appropriate, where it will not interfere, and what color it will match.

Modern interiors can amaze with color, stylistic solutions, minimalism, but bedside rugs are rarely abandoned.

If you adhere to the lagom philosophy that is fashionable today, the bedroom will have a rather modest, discreet, but cozy and natural bedside rug.

How to make the right bed?

The traditional element is the carpet in the “barefoot area”, that is, near the bed. So effectively the sleeping area stands out against the general background. If the carpet product is large, then you can place it under the bed - it will go beyond its outline. This is a familiar layout, but will only work for smooth carpets. If you follow the pattern that is fashionable today, then put the carpet on the floor so that it lies across the bed and the bed is only half on it.

Sometimes the owners decide to surround the bed with carpets on all sides: on the sides and at the foot. The option is bold, although symmetry and visual ordering in this way is not difficult to achieve. Another option is two bedside rugs on the sides. If you like simple interiors, these can be patchwork, woven rugs that wash well and look cute and rustic warm. The variant with asymmetry is complex and requires an artistic look: all the elements of the interior are geometrically disjointed and at the same time look organic - not an easy task.

Examples in the interior

Practical training can be photos of bedrooms that are in tune with the decor in your room. Evaluate how the designer covered the theme of the carpet, whether such a solution might work in your situation as well.

Let's consider such examples.

  • Bedroom in very calm, restrained colors. Everything looks natural, light, traditional. Pay attention to how the carpet is positioned - part of it is under the bed, but most of it remains free. This solution perfectly organizes the space.
  • Modern bedroom with a creative ambiance. The rug with a long pile, with ethnic simplified ornamentation, looks quite bright and makes the interior a little eclectic. The carpet lies at the foot of the bed, apart, as a self-sufficient interior element. He just asks to be sat on it for an evening conversation, a glass of wine and viewing old photo albums.
  • Bedroom where beige reigns. The milk carpet is placed asymmetrically. But such a solution creates dynamics in the bedroom, makes it more lively, adds "character" to the room. A good way to spice up the interior if the current setting seems a little old-fashioned to you.
  • Bright carpet in a cozy bedroom. Here, the product clearly plays a major role. On it stands (albeit partially) not only a bed, but also an armchair, as well as a bedside element. A bright, striped, cheerful carpet finds "accomplices" in the form of pictures on the walls, and all together makes an ordinary, standard-designed bedroom very colorful and pretty.

You shouldn't give up the carpet in the bedroom: sometimes it is the only thing that can unite big and small, expensive and modest in terms of price, modern and vintage.

In the next video, an experienced carpet specialist will reveal all the "carpet" secrets.
