Arranging your home is a process that everyone will face at least once in their life. By correctly choosing and adhering to a certain style of design, you can achieve comfort and tranquility in the house. We will talk about the rules for arranging a bedroom in the English style in this article.

Peculiarities

This style dates back to the 17th century, when England was the strongest country in the world. Then some of the interior elements were borrowed from the colonial countries. This is how oriental motives came to European severity.

The English interior is based on symmetry, strict zoning of premises, the use of natural materials (mainly wood), subdued lighting and calm colors. In ancient castles, bedrooms were small for quick heating.

This design option is well suited for an apartment building that does not have large rooms.

In Britain, it is customary to buy furniture for centuries, passing it on from generation to generation. Therefore, it must be made of high-quality and well-processed material. A massive solid wood bed or its modern counterparts are usually placed in the center of the room with the headboard against the larger wall. Bedside tables are placed along the edges.

Of course, there is no English bedroom without a fireplace and a couple of classic armchairs.

The walls can be decorated with stucco or its analogs, the presence of a Scottish cage is possible. Such an interior is dominated by brown, combined with dark green or bronze accents.

The advantage of such an environment will be grace, furniture arrangement thought out with British scrupulousness, luxury and good quality... This style will not suit lovers of modern interiors.

There is no place for the allocated free space.

Mandatory interior elements

The bed is the main attribute of the English-style bedroom. It should be high and as wide as possible. Bedside lamps or wall sconces provide subdued light to the room.

An element of the British classic is the fireplace. In a private house, where it is possible to make a chimney, it is better to make a real one, and a place for storing firewood is equipped nearby. Today there are many electric fireplaces that have similarities with real ones. In cold weather, such electrical equipment will warm the owners.

As a rule, there are 2 cozy armchairs by the fireplace. To create an entourage without a heating function, a false panel in the form of an English fireplace is placed on the wall. A miniature figurine and a large carpet on the floor will remind you of eastern countries.

A place should be allocated for a roomy chest of drawers and cabinets for storing things, bed linen.

It is advisable to choose natural wood furniture.

Selection of furniture

Expensive, antique furniture has long been held in high esteem by aristocrats in Britain. It is believed that in the past centuries, furniture structures were made of better quality materials for special orders. Such models can be found in rare samples.

Men's bedroom

Excesses in the design of a men's bedroom are much less common than among women. The main details of such a room are a bed, bedside tables, a chest of drawers and a wardrobe.

This is enough for masculine dressing.

Bedroom for a girl

The women's room is characterized by the presence of more furniture. The bed is equipped with a canopy, and there is also a small sofa or a pair of armchairs with a floral print. Dressing table, ottoman, curtains emphasize the grace inherent in the female sex.

Parts not recommended

In the classic English style, the presence of steel elements, decor and furniture is unacceptable. The popular black and white gamut is also unacceptable. There is no place for multifunctional furniture and modern household appliances in this style, and if necessary, the presence of it is masked in antiquity. When you are in such a room, the main sensations should be peace and regularity.

In such rooms, the presence of details related to a different style or era is undesirable.

For example, a Russian stove in this interior will look ridiculous.

Selection of finishing materials and colors

In English bedrooms, despite the conservatism, a large number of color options are acceptable. The dark brown woody range is a classic that is combined with dark green and bronze shades. The third color must certainly be light. This arrangement of colors can add history and mystery to a room.

You can find rooms in light colors, and brown or beige highlight only a few accents. The main requirement will be the presence of natural colors and the absence of bright shades. During the formation of the English style, natural, unpainted furniture and fittings were used. British luxury and oriental splendor coexist in this style. An obligatory element will be the presence of a carpet with a soft oriental pattern, which will add coziness to the room.

Floor covering

The floors are covered with parquet or laminate with an appropriate pattern. In small rooms, they are laid diagonally, this allows you to make the room visually larger. Sometimes the entire floor is covered with neutral carpet. It is difficult to care for, but it will add a sense of warmth to the room.

You can put a carpet on top of it.

Wall decoration

The walls should emphasize luxury and sophistication. For this, expensive fabric wallpaper or silk-screen printing with a floral print are used.Sometimes the surface is decorated with moldings that resemble stucco or wood paneling. Recently, modern solutions have increasingly come to this design. Sometimes you can see walls painted in monochromatic colors, while they emphasize antique furniture and other interior details. Everything is done in calm colors.

Ceiling decoration

The ceiling is almost always monochromatic and white. This balances the excess of luxury in the interior. In the places where the ceiling adheres to the walls, a ceiling plinth or a baguette is attached. Depending on the area, it can be small or, like all other elements, have voluminous forms, look like an old stucco molding.

Sometimes you can see the ceiling, sheathed with wooden planks, which creates the effect of a medieval castle.

Windows and doors

The English style places special demands on the shape and materials of doors and windows. As already mentioned, this style is characterized by symmetry. If there are several windows or doors in the room, they must be of the same design. The British do not like plastic in the interior, so all windows and doors are made of wood. Today, you can find many alternatives to natural materials. Frames are decorated with spros, which are glued to the inside of the window.

Doors are made of solid oak or beech, moldings along the perimeter emphasize the respectability and style of the room. Painted elements are allowed in a bright interior.

Fireplace trim details

Not every private house has the technical ability to install a real wood-burning fireplace. In apartments, there is no need to dream of such luxury at all. If it is not possible or too expensive to install a full-fledged fireplace, installing an electric one would be an excellent replacement. Such a device has a decent appearance, from which heat emanates during operation, and in some cases the sound of firewood crackling.

To make such a fireplace indistinguishable from a real one with the naked eye in an English bedroom, a drywall box is made, on which an electric fireplace is attached.

The box itself protruding from the wall is lined with imitation brick or other stone.

Curtains and other textiles

For an English bedroom, it is recommended to use only textiles made from natural materials. The windows are decorated with large and heavy curtains, the canopy of the bed is sewn from the same material. A plush bedspread and small pillows decorate the high bed. Pattern options can be:

  • oriental ornament, depicted on wallpaper or upholstered furniture;
  • tartan - Scottish cage in a part of Britain is national and is present on textile elements of the interior;
  • floral print - appropriate floral elements, large or small, repeated in the woven components of the interior.
