France has long been considered one of the trendsetters of world fashion, and French women are considered a model of elegance. Perhaps that is why the French style of clothing is so popular not only in Europe, but all over the world.

French dressing style: calm and confident beauty

King Louis XIV is called the "father" of this trend in fashion. The "Sun King" banned the import of imported fabrics into the country, which was the impetus for the development of its own textile industry. In a short time, the country's textile workers have learned to make products not only no worse, but even much better than their colleagues from other countries.

The local fashion designers, who learned to create real masterpieces, did not lag behind the fabric manufacturers. Since that time, France has for many centuries secured the status of a manufacturer of the best fabrics and a trendsetter.

But the French style gained wide popularity and love already in the XX century, which was facilitated by the work of talented fashion designers from France: Paul Poiret, Christian Dior, Pierre Cardin, Yves Saint Laurent and others.

The greatest contribution to the popularization of this direction in clothing was made by Coco Chanel, who made a real revolution in the fashion world.

Much of what she brought to the female image does not lose its relevance to this day. And not only in France.

Characteristics

The main feature of the fashion trend, which was born in the country of Cézanne and Camembert, is the priority of quality over quantity, which means that it is better to have a few expensive and high-quality items in your arsenal than a wardrobe full of low-quality cheap ones.

Other characteristics include:

  • Refined femininity, denying the use of unisex clothing, including jeans (with the exception of denim trousers of classic style and colors), bright flashy things.
  • Simplicity - there are practically no decorations, and all accessories are as functional as possible.
  • Soft, discreet colors that can be easily combined with each other, making up all new compositions.

Followers of the style treat clothes in a special way, carefully choosing what will fit perfectly, emphasizing the figure. The direction assumes that a woman should always, in any situation, look adorable and stylish, be perfect.

The main elements of the wardrobe

To create a unique bow, you need the following wardrobe details:

  1. Dresses. Straight or fitted style to the knees (a slight deviation in both directions is allowed. Maxi and mini are prohibited!). The shape of the collar and sleeve is any, but the neckline is not particularly frank. The most suitable in this category are sheath dresses, dressing gowns or fitted, with a flared skirt.
  2. Skirts. Their distinctive features are impeccable cut and strict elegance. The main styles include a pencil - slightly tapering downward; tulip - with a voluminous top, straight wrap-around. All are of medium length. In addition, maxi skirts with slits can be included in the wardrobe, but they must be straight cut. For informal events, the use of fluffy flared skirts is also allowed.
  3. Pants. Not a very popular item in this direction of clothing. However, "just in case" it is worth getting straight or slightly flared models. The use of shortened models is possible. The main rule is the absence of decorative ornaments on trousers.
  4. Blouses. Classic options with turn-down collars and small buttons as a fastener are preferable. It is possible to wear strict models with a V-neck or with a frill.
  5. Jackets. One of the central places is assigned to this detail. Its cut is classic with a fitted or straight silhouette, straight shoulders and moderately wide cuffs.
  6. Women's tuxedo is considered a real chic, which, despite its seeming rudeness, perfectly emphasizes the femininity of its owner. But it will not suit everyone - the tuxedo will look beautiful and stylish only on slender tall ladies.

You want to look stylish at any time of the year. For this, it is worth replenishing the wardrobe:

  • a cape of medium length in a classic cut with a straight silhouette;
  • trench coat;
  • coat - a trapezoid.

Favorite brands of French women

Things that will allow you to create truly French chic, French women prefer to buy from La Redoute - a brand with almost a century and a half history. His online store is one of the most visited by millions of women who value beauty and elegance combined with an affordable price.

Women, not on a budget, prefer things from Sandro, Maje and Claudie Pierlot.

The products of the brands Isabel Marant and Karen Millen are appreciated.

Color palette and fabrics

All components of the image are sewn mainly from natural materials. Preference is given to cashmere, silk, linen, suede, corduroy and leather products.

Tweed is especially respected. Therefore, there should be at least one jacket made of this material in the wardrobe.

The presence of synthetics in things is allowed only in the smallest amount.

As for the color variety, then opt for neutral shades. Basic colors: beige, black, brown, white and gray. It will be appropriate to use pastel shades of any color. At the same time, bright accents are set with the help of cosmetics or accessories.

Important additions

Shoes and accessories play a significant role in the creation of the bow.

The shoes are simple, comfortable and elegant. The favorite everyday shoes of French women are not stiletto heels, but ballet flats. Sandals and light sandals are popular.

If, by design, a heel is required for the image, then you should turn to the classics - graceful pumps with a stiletto heel with a round or pointed toe.

Important! Shoes, like other details, should not be bright and colorful. Only solid colors are allowed. Platform and sports shoes are prohibited.

One of the most important accessories of the style is a bag that matches the outfit and shoes.

Other additions include:

  • Scarf and beret. The first ones should be long and wide. Wear them wrapped around the neck. Moreover, they are used not only in the cold, but also in summer, replacing woolen products with light silk ones. Berets should be selected small, and wear them, sliding a little back or to the side.
  • Bijouterie. It is not required, but in some cases, discreet earrings or beads can complement and diversify the image.
  • Glasses. Unlike jewelry, this detail is almost mandatory. It is noteworthy that French women wear dark glasses not only to protect their eyes from the sun, but simply as a decoration.

Hair and makeup

Minimalism. This criterion applies to both the hairstyle and the cosmetics used. To look stylish, French women don't have to style their hair in an intricate way. A short haircut, a carelessly twisted bun or loose curls just below the shoulders are the most popular hairstyles.

In make-up, preference is given to natural shades.

Examples of spectacular images

To create an image in the French style, you can learn how to compose individual elements of the wardrobe, or you can use the "tips" of fashion designers.

  1. Evening outfit. May consist of a classic dress with an accent on the back. In this case, the length can be almost any - from minimum to maximum. Instead of a dress, it is allowed to wear an evening jumpsuit. The color depends on the preferences of the woman and her appearance, however, it would be best to choose from black, beige, dark red or dark blue. A handbag and matching shoes are used as accessories. As additional details, you can use a shawl or scarf and a modest thread from natural pearls.
  2. Casual wear. On a cloudy autumn day, you can cheer yourself up and those around you by wearing a woolen fitted dress of medium length and slightly flared at the bottom; light raincoat or beret. Alternatively, for warmer weather, a chiffon outfit with a thin knitted scarf as an accessory is suitable.
  3. Business attire. It is based on various two-piece or three-piece suits combined with white blouses.

A bright image will help to create a men's jacket (not too wide and without huge shoulders), which is allowed to be worn with a belt. Depending on the width of the latter, it is either tied with a knot (thin), or fastened with a buckle. Roll up sleeves will look great. During the day, the jacket is worn with trousers that contrast with it in color or jeans. In the evening, both elements should be in the same color scheme. But wearing this wardrobe detail with a mini-skirt is not recommended.

A blouse or shirt of light color is worn under the jacket, on which it is recommended not to fasten the top buttons. It is also allowed to use a lace or silk top with straps.

Consider wearing a navy cashmere jumper with white jeans, heeled sandals, and a leather jacket for a sleeker look.

The French style, despite its laconicism, is very diverse, so with a little experimentation, every woman will find something of her own in it, which will give her appearance a unique charm.

Agree...I myself was in France and directly in Paris and I can confirm that many Parisian women dress like in the photo. I especially liked the look of elderly Parisians there - style embodied! But this is only in the capital and large cities. In the provinces of France, they dress more simply, casually, sometimes they don't take care of themselves at all ... as in Italy ...

Interesting! Thanks.
