Heavy and lush clothes were replaced by a new modern style, which appeared in the 90s of the 19th century in Europe. It was a kind of transition to something new and easy. Lush, pretentious clothes - not every lady could afford, since it was not a cheap pleasure.

Art Nouveau clothes were simpler and without frills, which is why they cost less. Although this style did not last long. It ended by the beginning of the First World War.

Peculiarities

Paul Poiret was the first to show the world of Art Nouveau clothing. It combines both exotic and Japanese motives, and historical echoes, and even Gothic.

The main characteristic features of Art Nouveau are:

  • floral ornament;
  • tight-fitting styles;
  • delicate colors;
  • the predominance of decor.

Clothing styles highlight every part of the female body: raised shoulders and s-shaped silhouette, asymmetrical outfits. All this makes a woman feel like a queen. As mentioned above, there is a huge amount of decor in clothes - these are:

  • ruffles;
  • satin ribbons;
  • gold braid;
  • embroidery;
  • lace;
  • stones (and even precious ones);
  • vegetable print;
  • metal;
  • beads and more.

A little later, the main idea of the style was contact with nature, that is, the inclusion of various ornaments and silhouettes in clothes. The designers wanted to make butterflies or dragonflies out of the ladies. The outfits were simple, weightless and incredibly beautiful.

Although over time, geometric shapes, straight lines also came into clothes. This is how the designers emphasized minimalism.

The style developed further until it split into two branches:

  • conservative style;
  • reformatory.

Over the years, only at that time did people begin to think that clothes should also be comfortable. It was the reformers who thought about women's health. If the conservative style provided for the wearing of corsets, then the reformist style prohibited.But then he opened for women a mini skirt, flared trousers and skirts and loose dresses. In the end, the conservative style came to naught, and all efforts were thrown to create the greatest comfort.

During the development of this style, another strange direction appears - the suffragist. It was based on the fact that girls should give up elegance and flying dresses. Suffragettes prefer a loose fit in everything and look more like men in this form.

Bright accessories are relevant. With the right choice, it will only make the image more complete. Scarves, veils, bright handkerchiefs are popular. From jewelry - metal chains, beads.

A lace umbrella is a separate topic. It gives the image a mystery.

Art Nouveau made an eternally fragrant flower out of women.

Color and fabrics

Fabrics in those days not only differed in quality, but also in price, it was not as high as in the modern world. Therefore, all the best was used to tailor the outfits.

Art Nouveau clothing was made from:

  • silks;
  • chiffon;
  • organza;
  • plush;
  • velvet.

Each fabric is imbued with wealth and luxury. Pastel shades are in great demand. However, colors such as green and pink are also popular. Often they choose not a plain fabric, but with a floral print or a bright oriental pattern.

Today fashion designers combine all these colors with black. Although floral bright prints are also popular, which go well with swamp, pink, yellow colors. The most common print is geometric. Pierre Cardin demonstrates this in his collections. He emphasizes simplicity in his looks.

Oscar de la Renta in the 2012 collection shows people how graceful dresses with straight lines and loose fit can be. The collection was created in classic colors: black and white. But there were also dresses that differed in blotches of different colors: red and green.

Almost every fashion designer has such a collection. Each is unusual in its own way. One thing unites them: a loose fit.

Thick things are sewn from a tough material that is distinguished by its durability - reps, taffeta and, in some cases, velvet. Lighter things - chiffon, silk, muslin.

Models

In the 90s of the 19th century, the Art Nouveau style was at its peak of popularity. And today there are ardent fans of this style. For example, the British fashion house McQueen. Fashion designers include all the features of the Art Nouveau style in modern clothes and do not lose in their decision.

In the collections you can find the most extravagant things:

  • ostrich feather capes;
  • crinoline;
  • stockings with rhinestones;
  • dresses embroidered with stones;
  • puffy sleeves;
  • metal corsets;
  • red dresses;
  • frill.

Art Nouveau shoes are as unusual as clothing. For example, Versace offers stocking boots and shoes with an elongated, rounded toe. Louis Vuitton creates a collection of velvet boots. And Valentino - lace boots that look great on slender legs.

Lingerie differs from both modern and pre-modern. There is a transition from rigid corsets to spacious pantaloons and a bra. Basically, for sewing such underwear, they choose good expensive lace, which not everyone can afford. They begin to sew clothes for the home, explaining that a woman should look gorgeous everywhere.

Today you can choose something from the Art Nouveau style yourself. Not everyone dares to wear all these things at the same time.

What to wear with?

Today, every woman's wardrobe must have at least one modern outfit. Women are very tired of frayed jeans, low waist and patches on their shirts. Therefore, many stop at loose-fitting skirts and dresses, jackets, stand-up collars, coats. A year-old skirt is a skirt that was made by Paul Poiret and is still fashionable today. Mostly worn for weddings or other celebrations.

There is also a place for classic costumes in the Art Nouveau style. A fitted jacket will look great with high trousers.A lacy silk blouse can be worn under the jacket. The same blouse will fit under a flared skirt.

Many people choose modern wedding dresses. A modern dress in this style is different from what was before. Features of a wedding dress in modern style in the clothes of the 21st century:

  • metal accessories;
  • tight-fitting silhouettes;
  • crop tops;
  • set skirt-top;
  • color prints.
