Each girl at a certain period begins to prepare for a wonderful event in her life - the birth of a baby. Doctors carefully monitor the health of the expectant mother and child, but the girl herself should take care of the preparation for childbirth.

In the maternity hospital, you need to have some things with you, so you should pay special attention to the fees and prepare everything you need by putting things in a bag. Let's take a closer look at what should be in this bag, as well as why it is generally needed.

Why buy a special item?

The purchase of a special bag is necessary so that all things are in one place, and not scattered over numerous packages, which may even get lost in the end, which will cause a lot of inconvenience for you and the staff of the maternity ward.

A bag to the hospital is a necessity, since an absolute girl wants to feel comfort at such an important period in her life, and any personal things, even the most insignificant ones, are minor components of this very comfort.

A bag is also collected for the purpose of hygiene, which women in labor especially need. Every girl agrees that using disposable or hospital-provided supplies is not the most hygienic and can cause some complications.

The bag contains not only things for the young mother, but also for the child himself. It is important to take all the essentials to provide the baby with proper care and a comfortable existence from the very first minutes of his life.

In order not to collect two separate bags or packages that contain things for the prenatal and postnatal periods, it is better to get a special product, compact and roomy.

Such a bag can have multiple compartments for convenience.

When to collect?

For convenience, you can make a list of things in advance, put them in packages and put everything you need in a bag on the eve of leaving for the maternity hospital.

You should start collecting bags immediately after going on maternity leave, which usually happens in the thirtieth week of pregnancy, when the due date is not so far away. It is necessary to subdivide things into three categories: for the antenatal department, directly for the birth ward, and everything needed for discharge.

Things you need for the prenatal period:

  • First of all, you need a package of certain documents;
  • To communicate with family, you need a mobile phone and a charger for it;
  • To maintain personal hygiene, you must have a personal or disposable shaving machine with you;
  • Personal utensils are required in the form of a mug, spoon and fork;
  • Individual items for maintaining personal hygiene;
  • Home slippers or flip-flops;
  • Two towels: large and small;
  • A clean, tidy and comfortable robe;
  • Plain diaper, best made of cotton;
  • Several rolls of toilet paper;
  • On a personal request, you can take your own bed linen with you;
  • If the patient is admitted to the pathology department, she may need a supply of food for one day.

Things needed for a generic block:

  • Several diapers for the baby, but you need to check with the doctor which ones are best to take;
  • A pair of cotton nappies for a baby;
  • Hypoallergenic liquid soap for children, with a special dispenser;
  • A couple of packs of wet wipes: for mom and baby;
  • Several vests;
  • A pair of socks and a cap that has no strings;
  • One and a half or two liter container under the placenta;
  • A two-liter bottle of still drinking water;

  • Several postpartum or urological pads
  • A pair of disposable briefs, as well as removable underwear;
  • Nightgown, preferably made from natural cotton;
  • Girls with problem skin may need creams and hygienic lip balms.

Things you may need in the postpartum ward:

  • Packaging for baby diapers;
  • Baby liquid soap with antibacterial properties;

  • You will need Bepanten or any baby cream, preferably oily;
  • Mittens and socks for the baby;
  • Several clean and well-ironed vests;

  • Several disposable diapers for newborns;
  • If you wish, you can take a baby blanket with you;
  • A clean dry container with a lid;
  • Nightgowns for a young mother, clean and well ironed;
  • A dozen disposable underpants;
  • High absorbency sanitary towels;
  • A bra designed for feeding a baby;
  • Special pads for the breast, necessary during the feeding period;
  • Two towels: large and small;
  • Oral hygiene supplies;
  • Other hygiene items: soap, shampoo, toilet paper, deodorant and some cosmetics;
  • Personal utensils: mug, spoon, fork, tea and sugar;
  • If you wish, you can bring your own bed linen and an individual electronic thermometer.

The documents

You must have medical and personal documents confirming your identity and storing information about a person's health status. And the awareness of doctors about the state of health of a pregnant girl is very important, so do not forget about anything.

For convenience, we have compiled a list of required personal and medical documents:

  • Identity document - passport and several of its photocopies;
  • Medical insurance policy with several copies of its photocopies;
  • Special generic certificate;
  • Insurance certificate SNILS and several copies of it;
  • Sick leave certificate in original and in a copy;
  • An exchange card may be needed;
  • If you are hospitalized in the pathology department, you must have a special referral with you.

All this should be collected in accordance with the list, since in the absence of any important documents, the hospital has every right to refuse hospitalization of a pregnant woman. Therefore, we advise you to collect all documents in advance by placing them in a specially designated pocket of your bag.

For Mom

We have already outlined in general terms what things may become necessary in various departments of the maternity hospital. But it is worth considering in more detail what is really important for a young mother to have with her in order to feel comfortable.

As mentioned earlier, personal items are required in the form of slippers, nightgowns and a bathrobe, and bed linen was also mentioned. They are necessary, because not every maternity hospital has the opportunity to provide new bedding for women in labor, without traces of numerous washes and scuffs.

The fact is that state-supported clinics do not always have adequate funding and do not have the ability to replace outdated kits in time.

In such situations, it is recommended to have a set of fresh, clean, ironed bed linen with you. Although this is a trifle, compared to all the events taking place in the life of a young mother, it will still play a rather serious role in ensuring her comfort.

A young mother may need a cream to prevent or heal nipple cracks. When breastfeeding, women's nipples are exposed to unusual stress, which is the reason for the appearance of cracks, which will help to heal with an appropriate cream or ice cubes from a decoction of certain herbs.

In addition, a young mother may have a problem with going to the toilet, therefore, it is quite possible that glycerin candles will also be needed. They become a necessity when cracks appear during childbirth that have to be sutured.

In this case, any loads are contraindicated, and it is simply impossible to push.

For baby

With the list of things for the baby, it seems, everything is more or less clear. It would seem that what may be needed in the first minutes, hours and days of life, except for undershirts, sliders and sheets.

Let's take a closer look at the list of essentials and what they are for:

  • First of all, it is necessary to make a list of things based on what time of year the baby is due to be born. For example, for a hot summer season, warm clothes will be useless, undershirts and diapers will be enough, but during the autumn-winter-spring period, woolen overalls with connected legs can also come in handy.
  • In addition, in order to protect the baby from the cold, it is worth taking with you even a warm baby blanket or an envelope, which may become a necessity in case of any technical problems in the heating system.
  • In the first days of a baby's life, almost all young mothers perform the breastfeeding process, so some believe that a baby bottle will be superfluous. This is a misconception, as a bottle may be needed to prepare solutions to relieve infant colic.
  • Manicure scissors may be needed, since babies born at the exact specified time or a little later are born with rather long nails that must be cut off so that the baby does not injure himself.
  • To care for a newborn, it is necessary to have cotton swabs with you, since the baby needs to regularly clean the nose and ears. Sticks can also be useful for treating the umbilical cord, the wound on which has not yet healed.

On discharge

Clothes for discharge from the hospital, for the most part, are purchased for the baby, since her everyday clothes will be enough for the mother. What things are needed for a baby to be discharged, and how to choose sets in accordance with weather conditions?

You should not make several sets, since the employees of the maternity hospital will have to dress the baby and they simply have no time to choose an outfit for the baby, so the abundance of things can create certain inconveniences.

Here is a list of what your child really needs:

  • The kid definitely needs a cap or a hat, or better, both;
  • Baby blanket, which must be tucked into the duvet cover;
  • A corner and tape is required;
  • A pair of undershirts - regular cotton and insulated;
  • A pair of diapers - cotton and insulated;
  • Pampers.

It is necessary to take into account the weather conditions and the time of year when discharging, so as not to chill the fragile body of the crumbs. For example, for a cold autumn, it is better to get a warm envelope and a warmed hat.

For winter, you may need an even more insulated version, for example, with a cotton blanket or a baby envelope with fur.

It is very important to keep your baby warm and not stress him in the form of hypothermia.

The good thing is that the discharge kit does not need to be taken with you in advance, since it can be brought to the maternity hospital by the relatives of the young mother just before discharge. But you should still collect it yourself before you go to the hospital.

Joint childbirth, things for dad

Recently, partner childbirth has become quite popular. If earlier men were afraid of this process and tried to avoid it, but now they themselves consciously take such a step and want to take a direct part in the birth of their child.

There are many opinions about the benefits and harms of partner childbirth with the participation of the father. Some believe that this process can provoke a cooling of family relations, but as practice shows, after a joint experience of such an exciting event, families only become stronger.

But what is needed for this? It turns out that in order for the father to participate in the generic process, he also needs to collect a package of certain documents and have some things with him. Let's take a closer look at the list of these things:

  • First of all, the father will need to pass tests (each maternity hospital individually determines their list);
  • A necessary analysis in absolutely all clinics is fluorography;
  • The analysis for the detection of various kinds of sexually transmitted diseases is also mandatory;
  • For partner childbirth, the father will need replacement shoes, best of all - rubber slates;
  • You need comfortable clothes that everyone can choose for themselves individually - even a T-shirt with tights will do, the main thing is that things are clean;
  • If you have hairstyles with extra long hair, your father may need a hair tie or a special hat;
  • Since labor can be delayed and take a very long time, you need to bring drinking water and a light snack with you.

Range

The assortment of bags for the maternity hospital is quite wide, but, despite the external attractiveness of many of them, when choosing, first of all, it is worth considering the functionality of the product.

For example, at first glance, a transparent bag may seem convenient, since all things folded inside are clearly visible, and the risk of forgetting something important is significantly reduced. But, it seems, this is the only advantage of this model.

The fact is that a transparent bag is made of a material that is not very durable, which can be easily scratched with sharp objects. The places of seams and joints when the bag is overloaded quickly deteriorate, are torn and cannot be repaired.

Hartmann bags have a good reputation, the quality of which has been tested by numerous experience and time. The brand is renowned for producing high quality medical products, including maternity bags.

The bags are presented in one single form - in a rectangular shape with a fold-over top that closes with a zipper. This option is the most convenient, since there is a greater view of the interior space, which greatly facilitates the collection process.

Transparent bags from the Korablik line are presented in the form of a product with a ready-made set of necessary things. Orange piping at the seam areas makes the model more attractive. Some bags are made of transparent orange-colored material, which makes them look much more interesting.

A plastic transparent bag, of course, is good, but many young mothers who have already gone through the process of childbirth and have seen the situation from the inside are advised to purchase fabric models made of dense material.

By the way, these bags have quite an attractive decor in the form of a quilted material effect.

Ready-made bags

If a young woman does not have time to collect and compile a list of everything she needs on her own, it is worth paying attention to the offers of some brands - already assembled bags with a minimum stock of all the essentials.

It is worth mentioning that things are collected for the mother and for the baby separately, so when purchasing such a product, you should carefully make sure that it contains everything you need.

Mom's bag contents:

  • Waterproof slippers (the size of which should be clarified);
  • Absorbent diapers designed for single use;
  • Disposable shaving razors;
  • Gel for intimate care;
  • Drinking water in a bottle with a sports throat;
  • Packaging of wet wipes for intimate hygiene;
  • A couple of packs of postpartum pads: large and medium;
  • Special dragging pants designed for postpartum use;
  • Nipple pads and pads;
  • Cream for breast care;
  • Wet toilet paper packaging;
  • Paper napkins and wrapping paper toilet seat covers.

Contents of toddler bag:

  • Packaging of diapers for newborns;
  • Wet wipes packaging for babies;
  • Special gel designed to wash your baby;
  • Packaging of baby disposable diapers for newborns;
  • Baby powder;

It is worth stocking up on some items separately, since their number in the bag is not so large and they may simply not be enough.
