Knitted clothes are distinguished by their variety and are widely used in everyday life. Very often it is made from a fabric called interlock, but many people have no idea what it is.

What it is?

The English word interlock means "overlapping, crossing". It is this method of knitting a knitted fabric that is the basis for the manufacture of an interlock: a dense weave of crisscrossing fibers.

Interlock is a type of knitwear, which is distinguished by a special way of weaving fibers that form a dense fabric in an elastic band. The fibers are knitted on special knitting machines with two rows of needles located at a certain angle relative to each other. The yarn used for knitting has little twist. The knitting method of this knitted fabric is the technology of cross-knitting of threads, formed by joining several basic weaves. The stitch bars create small gaps to give the fabric firmness and elasticity.

The result is a double-sided canvas, in which both surfaces are the same and even close it is impossible to distinguish the front side from the wrong side. Therefore, interlock is also called double jersey or two-piece. When knitting fabric, alternation of front and back columns is used. This combination can be in different versions: 1 and 1 - alternation through a column, 2 and 2 - two front and back bars, 2 and 1 - two front bars and a back one.

Interlock can have a single color, striped or checkered patterns, for which fibers dyed in different colors are used. It is also often printed. According to the description, it is a silky, smooth and soft fabric that is very pleasant to touch with the skin, therefore, clothes for babies are often sewn from two-elastic.

You can sew underwear from it, the fabric with a print is well suited for sewing curtains, as well as other attributes that decorate the interior.

Composition

Pure cotton serves as raw material for the manufacture of two-plastic. This is a natural knitwear. The quality of the crisscross weave is achieved by pretreating the fibers with substances such as paraffin wax and a special emulsion, which give the fabric strength and the surface smoothness. When synthetic fibers are added to cotton, the properties of knitwear deteriorate, therefore synthetics are very rarely included in it.

If interlock is supplemented with other fibers, then it is most often viscose, polyester, elastane, lycra, and in small quantities.

Properties

As a natural knitted cotton fabric, interlock has the characteristic properties of cotton fabrics.

  • Resistant to wear and tear. The fabric tolerates long-term use well, does not wear out for a long time. The quality of the fiber and the texture of the fabric prevent the formation of pills and puffs. the material retains its original appearance for a long time.
  • Tensile resistance. The jersey stretches weakly and has the ability to quickly return to its original shape after being stretched.
  • Hygroscopicity... Bilastic items have a good ability to absorb and transmit moisture.
  • Air permeability. This ability of the two-layer provides air access and allows the skin to "breathe".
  • Thermoregulation. Warm fabric provides comfort in the cold season, as it retains heat well and, at the same time, allows air to pass through, protects against overheating and maintains temperature balance.
  • Environmentally friendly and hypoallergenic. Bilastic made of natural cotton is absolutely safe for health and does not contribute to the occurrence of any allergic reactions or skin irritations.
  • Durability guaranteed by double-sided weave. The density of the canvas is never lower than 180 g / sq. m.

These properties also determine its positive qualities.

  • The fabric is capable of stretching, but not stretching, it does not change shape even after washing and long-term wear. Loops do not come down, threads do not pull.
  • The jersey is dense and has a long wear life.
  • Easy to wash, both hand and machine wash and iron well.
  • Does not lose its color for a long time. When washed, it does not fade and does not fade in the sun.
  • Interlock has the ability to not wrinkle.
  • Knitwear does not require complex maintenance.
  • A characteristic feature of the fabric is also manifested in the fact that the edge of the fabric does not fold and this facilitates the process of cutting and sewing products from two-plastic.

But there are also negative aspects. Washing requires care and the use of water of a certain temperature, otherwise the thing may "shrink". Interlock clothing is suitable for use only during the cold season.

Possessing such excellent qualities, the two-plastic is widely used. A variety of products are sewn from it: wonderful underwear, adult home clothes. For kids, jersey undershirts and rompers, T-shirts and T-shirts, blouses are made from jersey, for teenagers - warm sweatshirts and trousers, shirts. It is also used for sewing adult and children's clothing for sports. Less commonly used for sewing bed linen, curtains and curtains.

    Varieties

Interlock is classified according to the type of fiber used. There are three types of double-faced plastic, depending on the quality of the raw material.

    Singing

For the manufacture of this type of two-layer knitwear, the best long cotton fibers, specially pretreated, are used. Carefully sanded fibers are free of any defects such as pile or knots. Therefore, a thin, but sufficiently strong fabric is characterized by an absolute smoothness of the surface with a slight silkiness. Further, in the process of wearing, no pellets are formed on the knitted fabric. In everyday use, the material almost does not wrinkle and does not change shape. The fabric is able to keep warm for a long time and has good breathability. This is the highest quality knitwear.

It is used for sewing clothes for adults (underwear, nightgowns, pajamas). Monochromatic singing is used for the manufacture of clothing for sports, as well as shirts, sweatshirts. It is simply irreplaceable for sewing clothes for babies. Insulated romper suits and trousers, T-shirts and sweaters, dresses, hats and overalls, jackets are sewn from it.

    Ring (card)

The fabric is knitted from medium-sized cotton fibers, quite smooth, although a little loose. Therefore, the knitwear is not as dense, has a slightly fleecy and not as smooth surface as in singing. This is a thicker but looser canvas.

It is quite warm and durable, and exhibits good properties in use. This jersey is of average quality. It is used for sewing T-shirts and adult clothing. Products made from it are also distinguished by their durability and long-term use.

    Openend

This type of interlock is made from loose, very short fibers with a slight twist and from the threads left over from knitting and ring knitting. The ends of these fibers form numerous villi on the surface of the knitted fabric. Openand - knitwear with a fleece and this distinguishes it from singing. Wrinkles and roughness can form on the fabric; this is the cheapest material of all types of interlock.

The listed types are a real interlock. But there is an interlock with artificial fibers that have a loose structure, or with the addition of synthetics. The result is a brushed jersey. Interlock can be knitted from fibers of different colors (material in a cage or strip) and using melange threads.

    Comparison with other materials

There are many types of cotton knitted fabric, which have similar or different properties to the interlock.

    • Kulirka or kulirny smooth surface just like the interlock, it is made of 100% cotton. It is a very thin fabric with a smooth surface. On the front side, loops in the form of braids are clearly visible, and on the wrong side, diamond-shaped loops (the so-called brickwork). What these two types of knitwear have in common is that their classification depends on the quality of the cotton fibers.

The interlock is thicker than the coulter, but less stretchable. The scope of their application is also different. The kulirka has lightness and airiness, it allows air to pass through perfectly, therefore, summer clothes are sewn from it, in contrast to the two-piece.

    • Kashkorse cotton fabric differs from interlock in that it can contain additives of synthetic threads in the form of elastane and polyester (up to 10%). In terms of density, these two types of fabric are the same.
    • Types of footer, unlike interlock, they are classified by the number of threads (from 1 to 3) used in the knitting process. The density of the knitwear depends on this. A three-thread footer often contains, in addition to cotton, wool with lycra or polyester.

The front side is smooth, like a two-faced, but denser. The seamy side has a fleece. Since the composition contains wool, the fabric retains heat better.

      • Suprem - knitted fabric, consisting of cotton with the addition of lycra, which gives the fabric more elasticity than interlock. This is a thin fabric that allows air to pass through well, so light summer clothes are often sewn from it.
      • Ribana can contain pure cotton, like interlock, or include additives from viscose, lycra, and rubber fibers, so the material is very tight and elastic. The front surface and the wrong side are practically the same.
      • Velours also based on cotton. It comes in pure cotton and may contain additives such as polyester or lycra. But the seamy surface in contact with the skin is always pure cotton. Velor differs from interlock in that its front side is covered with thick, short and soft pile. This delicate jersey is often used to make clothes for the little ones.

All these types of knitwear have a common property: they use the same basic raw material - cotton. The differences lie in the composition of fabrics and in the intricacies of their manufacturing technologies.

      How to choose?

      • Choosing a knitted interlock fabric, you need to remember that it has three types, differing in quality. The highest has a two-piece singing. This look can be identified by its perfectly smooth surface. The lowest quality is the open. It can be identified by its characteristic fleece.
      • You also need to pay attention to the composition of the knitwear, which is indicated on the tag of each product. This interlock is made from natural cotton only. If the composition contains synthetic fibers, then this is no longer a real two-plastic.
      • It is necessary to consider well the front surface of the product - it should be smooth, without defects, wrinkles, lint and roughness. High quality interlock has a dense texture. When choosing clothes from this jersey, you need to pay attention to its shape and the condition of the seams.
      • It also matters in which country the product is manufactured. Usually Korean, Turkish and Italian materials are presented on the Russian market. Interlock from a Korean manufacturer may contain synthetic additives, which is unacceptable and leads to poor quality of the fabric. Turkish and Italian knitwear has a higher quality.

      Care advice

Although two-plastic is unassuming to care for and has great durability, nevertheless, it is required to adhere to the simple rules of its content.

      • Since the two-piece plastic shrinks slightly after washing, it should be washed in water with a temperature not exceeding 40 degrees. So the thing will retain its original appearance for a long time.
      • Hand wash is recommended, but gentle machine wash is also possible.
      • It is forbidden to use detergents and powders containing chlorine during washing. Only mild detergents can be used.
      • Stains and other dirt on clothing must be treated and removed prior to washing.
      • Colored items are washed separately from whites.
      • The conditioner added to the water during rinsing will help maintain the texture of the canvas.
      • If the clothes have metal clasps, they must be fastened and the clothes turned inside out.
      • Squeezing out things in a centrifuge, it is set at low speed.
      • You cannot twist the clothes, you just need to squeeze them slightly.
      • If things are dried flat, they dry quickly and do not need to be ironed. But if folds do appear, then they can be steamed or simply ironed from the inside out with a non-hot iron.
      • It is better to dry things in well-ventilated rooms, out of the reach of sunlight.
      • You can store clothes either on hangers or neatly folded.

The basic care requirements are necessarily indicated on the label of each product. After purchase, you need to familiarize yourself with them in order to properly and carefully take care of things made of two-plastic. If you follow these simple recommendations, knitwear will not lose its properties for a long time, will not fade or deform.

      Reviews

Analysis of customer reviews shows that the interlock really has all of these properties. Most often, its strength and durability in use are noted. Numerous washes will not change its color. It is indicated that the products retain their shape well even after long wearing.

According to consumers, it is a very important fact that the material does not cause allergies. This is important for people with sensitive skin.It is also noted that when in contact with the body, the fabric causes pleasant sensations, which is important for children's clothing. Many people note the simplicity and ease of care. Parents of young children especially note the ability of double-faced plastic to wash quickly and easily.

Those who sew on their own indicate that almost any thing can be sewn from the interlock, both for adults and for children: elegant products - from singing, everyday - from the ring and open. The fabric is easy to cut and sew. There are not many negative reviews and they mainly relate to his ability to "shrink" after washing.
