The boho style owes its appearance to the Bohemian gypsies - a nomadic people who love loose layered outfits and large bright decorations. American hippies have made a significant contribution to the development of the style, complementing it with denim pants and shorts.

One of the most important details of a feminine boho look is the tunic. In this article, choose a boho tunic.

Peculiarities

The boho tunic has the following characteristics:

  • the minimum length starts just below the thigh, the maximum can reach the middle of the ankle; such a long variation can be worn as a dress or combined with trousers in the same style;
  • the hem of a boho tunic can be even, asymmetrical, in the form of a rhombus or a semicircle; it is trimmed with lace, decorated with pom-poms, tassels, shuttlecocks, or a fringed edge is left;
  • tunic sleeves can be of almost any length, but they must be wide;
  • when sewing, only natural "breathable" materials are used;
  • the silhouette of a boho tunic is either straight or A-shaped; a prerequisite - the thing should not fit the body, only a loose fit is allowed.

Varieties

In general, boho is a mix of several styles. Depending on which direction was taken as a basis, several types of tunics can be distinguished.

  • Ethno-boho. The main distinguishing feature is a special color scheme. Most often it is an ornament, animalistic or floral print. When looking at such a thing, an association arises with the traditional decorations of ancient national costumes of different peoples. Ethno-boho is characterized by the presence of hand-embroidered patterns (most often on the hem and sleeves), thin belts with tassels at the ends. Often such tunics are decorated with deliberately coarse wood beads.
  • Hippie boho and new hippie boho. Already from the name it is clear what can be expected from this direction. Bright colors, unusual embroidered ornaments - everything is like American youth from the 60s of the twentieth century. It is desirable to complement the bow with denim trousers or shorts, as well as massive accessories: earrings, belts, bracelets, beads.
  • Boho provence. The Provence style itself is very gentle, feminine, romantic. It is characterized by decoration with lace, flounces, ruffles. The color scheme is pastel; as a rule, there are no additions (embroidery, patterns). Such tunics are often multi-layered, as if flowing. Fabrics are extremely light, airy, such as gauze or very fine wool.
  • Boho glamor. This direction welcomes the presence of jewelry: volumetric embroidery, rhinestones, sequins, feathers. The cut can be slightly fitted, which, in fact, is not typical for boho, but for the sake of glamor, such an exception may take place.
  • Eco-boho. Here, the naturalness of materials and colors comes to the fore. Linen, cotton, gauze, wool - this is perhaps a complete list of fabrics from which a tunic in an eco-boho style can be sewn. No additional decorations are provided. The cut is shirtless, loose, the hem is most often asymmetrical, the length can be any. The color scheme is very calm, natural shades are in favor.
  • Boho vintage or retro boho. This direction is the best suited for lovers of vintage "grandmother's" things. Tunics in this style are volumetric products knitted or crocheted. Using the fillet knitting technique, you can create a stunningly beautiful tunic that resembles a lace veil. The sleeve can be made both elongated and shortened. It is advisable to complement the image with a wide belt and a multi-layer skirt to the floor or denim shorts, which is also quite appropriate.

Criterias of choice

      To choose a boho tunic, you should rely on several recommendations. You should understand that an oversized style item will look voluminous anyway, even if you are the lucky owner of the XS size. Therefore, when buying, focus on the type of your figure.

          There are only 5 of them: "pear", "apple", "inverted triangle", "rectangle", "hourglass", namely:

          • a pear-shaped silhouette is suitable for cutting a hem in the shape of a rhombus, as well as a neckline with a boat;
          • the nuances of the "apple" figure will be hidden by a tunic with a high cut-off waist, and the V-neckline focuses on the long neck and beautiful neckline;
          • the inverted triangle type is recommended for models with a detachable hem trimmed with ruffles or lace; and you should also consider options with patch pockets located in the hip area;
          • the rectangular type of figure will be decorated with tunics with a V-shaped neck and a hem, as if concave inward;
          • and, finally, the "hourglass" is best suited for tunics that expand at the waist.

          The next recommendation for choosing a boho tunic concerns the age of the young lady. Young girls can afford a wider variety of models, which concerns both the features of tailoring and colors. With mature women, things are a little more complicated. They are advised to pay attention to the elongated options. Tunics with an asymmetrical hem or in the shape of a trapezoid will look great. A fifty-year-old lady should not wear a tunic as a dress, even if it is very long.

          An exception is the resort area, where you can make a bow from a boho tunic, Greek-style sandals and a wide-brimmed straw hat.

          Beautiful images

          Well, in conclusion - a selection of successful images for your inspiration.

          • A gray tunic dress with lace in a combination with a gray knit cardigan and gray-brown ankle boots. The image would seem boring if it were not for the addition of large silver accessories and a bright clutch.
          • An excellent beach bow: a loose tunic with bright ornaments, a bag with a long strap.
          • Light blue gauze tunic paired with ripped jeans and a large pendant. Deliberately disheveled hair completes the rebellious look.
          • And in this case, the color comes to the fore - mustard yellow. The bow is complemented by simple white skinny pants, long bright beads, bracelets and a wristwatch. The cut of the tunic is also interesting - it is shorter in front than in the back.
          • See what a stunning bohemian look! A grassy green tunic and wide dark gray trousers, coupled with an unusual owl pendant and a coquettishly knitted scarf. Courageous older ladies should adopt this idea.
          • A glamorous version of the boho style: a lace tunic dress is complemented by high boots in a single style. Large bright accessories are used as accents.
          • Knitted tunic + shorts + simple leather bag with a long belt, bracelets, glasses and a pendant - a ready-made look for a summer walk.
          • Linen suit: long tunic dress and loose trousers. The unpretentious gray color is leveled by large beads and a light scarf. This is another great idea for older ladies.
          • Beach option: blue gauze tunic decorated with white lace and tassel ties. A beige wicker bag completes the look.
          • Eco-boho: a very simple beige tunic without any embellishments, white trousers and sandals - for the adherents of simplicity and environmental friendliness.
